Alex blushed, and Galen grinned sleepily at her. "S'a compliment. I mean - you don't think you're better then women... or... Any of the bad things about machismo. But neither do I, right? I don't think I do..." He waved a black-clad hand in the air as if it would help him express himself. "You just got the 'I don't want anyone helpin' me' part."

He shook his head, scrubbing his face with one hand. "'M fine. I won't... Fall asleep or anything." He could see the way she was eying him worriedly, as if he might collapse at any moment. "It's the endorphins," He offered as explanation. "I get all... Calm. And sleepy. 'Cause they want me to think healin' people is a good thing. An' that way I don't notice the pain or anythin'." He grinned suddenly. "Don't worry, my machismo'll keep me awake. That'd be too embarrassing, passin' out in front of you."

"Don't rip out the back or anythin'. What if Cole wants it back for somethin'?" He grinned. "Maybe he wants to ruin it. People do that. They smash up their old wheelchairs. I don' know why. Sometimes they'd burn them an' stuff. I always thought they should just give them away or somethin', to someone who can't afford a nice one." He was babbling, his speech slurring lazily, trying to keep himself awake.

Alex nodded at Galen as he told her not to rip the wheelchair up because Cole may want to do it. “Okay. You can take it to his room tomorrow or something then.” She shrugged before taking a breath and looking at Galen, her expression changing to a sterner one than before. “But be careful around Cole. I….” She stopped wondering if it was wise to share her suspicions with someone else. It could put Galen in danger if Cole ever found out. Taking deep breath Alex decided she should tell him, he needed to know, and this secret had been building up in her for so long she just had to share it with someone. “I’m pretty sure that Cole, and keep this to yourself you can’t tell anyone, I’m pretty sure that he murdered someone when he was younger.” She paused again as she looked down at the chair that the kid she was talking about used to reside it. “I saw him use those force field things to, to, crush a kid or something.”

Galen ran a shaky hand through his hair, instantly awake. "I... healed him." He mumbled, eyes staring blankly at the floor. "You told me to heal him." He didn't consider that she might have been forced - right now, all he could think about was the possibility that he had cured a murderer. The elevator stopped at the ground floor and the doors slid open, but he didn't seem to notice.

Finally, with effort, he shook his head as if to clear it and slowly walked into the wide corridor. "Wait. Manslaughter murder, or murder murder? Do you think he... Was it because he couldn't control his powers? Or self-defense or something? When did you find out? Does he know that you know?" He fired off the questions rapidly, staring lifelessly at something unseen in the middle distance. He remembered the messy haired boy, the anger that flashed in his eyes at Alex's warning, the way he'd looked so small and tired right before he'd left. Was it possible for him to have purposely murdered someone?

“I know I did,” Alex said looking intently at her shoes, she couldn’t bring herself to look at Galen. “I’m sorry. I- I don’t know why I did it, as unnerving and potentially evil there was genuine pity and desperation when he begged me for help. I… I couldn’t say no. I’m sorry.” She looked back up at him, her eyes silently pleading for his forgiveness.

“I don’t know what kind it was.” Alex admitted. “It was a memory he had. He couldn’t have been more than six. There was this kid he was,” Alex trailed off for a second, no matter how macho or feminine she actually was she still couldn’t bring herself to describe what she saw. “And Cole was there looking at the body, and he felt this since of glee. I don’t know if it was an accident, but the way he felt, he doesn’t regret it. I’m telling you because that’s why I’m sure he keeps those other powers of his secret. He thinks it can lead back to him and that murder and maybe other ones too. That’s why now that you know he may consider silencing you. I’m sorry if I thought it would come to this I wouldn’t have asked you to heal him I figured you would come in heal him or not and leave I didn’t expect what happened to have happened. I’m sorry.”

((eek, sorry for the delay.))

Galen began to say something but cut himself off, carefully pushing his emotions below the surface. There was no point in arguing. It was done; there was nothing he could do about it, and venting his frustration would do nothing but make him feel better. He was used to detaching himself from his emotions, and it wasn't too difficult to fill his mind with the idea of his dorm room, his bed, instead of the events of the night.

He listened silently as Alex explained what she had seen, walking slowly but more or less steadily in the direction of the dorms. His brain was numb with exhaustion, and the news that Cole might now want to 'silence' him didn't surprise him as much as it should have. Maybe it was because he still couldn't picture Cole wanting to kill Alex or him; maybe it was a false calm brought on by the endorphins. Still, he had a vague feeling his first reaction, 'Well, shit,' echoing blandly through his head wasn't the correct response. He tried again, this time out loud: "Did you look through his memories back then, try to find out more?" he asked, reminding himself there's nothing you can do about it now, and it's already finished, and don't get angry, there's no point in being angry.

“No I haven’t wanted to risk it.” Alex said shaking head and leaning against the wall with a sigh. The late hour and long day were beginning to be on Alex. If it wasn’t for the rush of excitement, with a mix of fear, that she felt that when Galen actually succeeded in healing Cole, she would have probably fallen asleep in that class room. “It was something he was remembering at the moment, and he’s been rather guarded about what he thinks about when he is near me since then, which is creepy as hell on its own. But to actually go into his mind could be risky.” She paused again rubbing the scratching the back of her head, her pony tail swinging back and forth as she did so. “You see actually going though someone’s it can, in some people, cause a slight twinge of pain or discomfort in their head, like a migraine that’s moving around from point to point. Plus if they try and resist there can be some memory loss or brain damage. It’s dangerous for them, but to be honesty don’t care about him being hurt. I am worried what would happen to me, it takes a lot of concentration and focus to go through someone’s brain if they don’t want you too. He could use those tendrils on me.” She shuddered as the image of herself being ripped apart and crushed by Cole flashed through her mind. “He needs to be otherwise occupied or unconscious for me to do it safely. Which, no offense, I was kind of hoping would happen back in the room. Now instead of having a cripple psycho in a wheelchair I may have just made him mobile. I’ve made a terrible mistake I think.”

Alex stopped for a rest, and Galen couldn't resist taking the opportunity to lean one shoulder heavily against the wall. Apparently he wasn't the only one who had been tired out by the meeting. He watched her silently as she explained about her powers, eyes remaining on her for a few seconds at a time before skittering off to stare at the empty corridor, the unlit hanging lights, the monotone tiled floors. He'd never thought much about her power. As far as he was concerned, she just read minds, and he'd never considered that her abilities might have limitations.

Alex shuddered, and Galen's gloved hand twitched as if he was considering patting her on the back or clasping her shoulder or whatever it was people did to comfort other people. He balled it into a loose fist instead, remaining silent for a few moments before finally saying, "It's not a terrible mistake," somewhat reluctantly. "He was perfectly capable of using his power from his wheelchair; if he does still harm people with it - and I'm not saying that he does - the most we assured was that he could... Get to someone in the towers, or something." He was speaking as much to himself as to Alex, trying to convince himself that he hadn't endangered anyone by healing Cole.

“True, but at least as a Plan B we could have just shoved him down the stairs.” Alex in a bit of dark humor. Stifling another yawn she looked down at the floor, how did she get involved with all this? All she did was sit down in on a couch when he was near. Thing sort of snow balled from there, she concluded that it may have been best that if in hindsight she should have just beat herself over the head with her textbook until she didn’t’ know which way was up. That would have been a lot less stressful than what she had gotten herself into now.

“I am truly sorry that I got you involved in this.” Looking back up at Galen, she was repeating herself she knew that, and she knew Galen was acting rather blasé about the incident, but she had a nagging since of guilt that refused to go away.

Galen snorted, a thin smile playing on his lips. "That could still work. Shovin' people down stairs is usually effective even if they can walk," he was mumbling through his hands, abruptly standing up straight again. "Here, sit down. You're tired," he said quietly, nodding towards the wheelchair. Alex was looking sleepy, and there was no reason she couldn't curl up in the chair. Besides, it might be a good idea for him to hold on to something as he walked.

"I... Yeah." He ran a hand through messy hair, uncertain of what to say. He knew he should feel worried or angry or something, anything, but after the initial burst of anger he'd quickly settled back into his usual emotional numbness. "'m not that worried about it." Galen remembered the death threats he used to get, the deranged protesters who were convinced he was an abomination. He'd always try to act the way he was supposed to, full of forgiveness and compassion for the offender, always secretly tried to make himself feel scared and shaken. All he ever felt was numb and detached, as if his life wasn't quite his own, and if anything happened to the person he was, it certainly wouldn't happen to him. Tonight, he couldn't even muster up enough energy to look like he cared. "I believe you, I jus'... Can't imagine him killin' us," he finally offered as a weak explanation. It was sort of true - Cole was angry, yes, but in the brief time Galen had been around him he hadn't noticed anything murderous about him.

Alex paused as she looked at Galen, unsure if she should take him up on the offer, but every time she saw that chair it looked more and more inviting. But Galen was in hardly better shape than she was. Plus he was the one who did all the work tonight all she did was sit on the sidelines and hope, mostly, for the best. But as she turned to start walking again the throbbing of her feet and a slight sense of dizziness came over her. Sighing heavily at how big a wus she was before taking a deep breath and steeling her resolve. “No thanks,” She shook her head. “I guess I have too much machismo for my own good.” She said grinning ear to ear.

Taking a deep sigh she looked down the darkened hallway as if Cole was there listening to us. “Yeah he may not look like one.” She conceded. “But it’s the ones that don’t look dangerous you have to worry about the most. If he was some tattooed cover knife nut. Then I woulda already told someone about my suspecions but he’s just some formally handicapped kid, who would believe me that he is a killer.”
