Zach made a frustrated noise. Not really directed at Ama, but for general frustration. “It’s... not that. I got pushed around to report it when I shouldn’t have. It was an overreaction, so I deserve the consequences.” He sounded honest, and he truly was honest really. What Broen did was wrong, he had no doubt about that. His own conflict was about how he and his mothers reacted.

He sighed as rubbed his head with his free hand. This is why he dropped out of high school, all this emotional stuff tired him out. What could he say next? He didn’t really have much else to say. He said what was truly on his mind, and he had a good idea it would still be something that Ama would dislike. To be fair, if Jay ever said this to him he would hate it. But it did feel different because he was a guy. He made a frustrated groan as he pinched the bridge of his nose.

But the last part of what Ama said finally registered... and he laughed. Not like how he chuckled every now and then, or had an amused smile. He actually laughed. He took a deep breath as he nodded. “Thank you Ama, I needed to hear that.” He looked at her in the face, and he truly meant it. He internally decided the next time he saw Broen, and he said anything, he’d actually talk back. Tell him to just... stop. A thank you would be all Ama would get, but that was still a lot coming from Zach.

"When you didn't want to," she corrected him. Ama couldn't tell if he was truly clueless or if he was just severely lacking in self-worth for...whatever reason. She couldn't relate on the latter half; the torment she had suffered before her caretaker's return stemmed mostly from the former--having no knowledge of what was right or wrong in this society. She'd gotten it wrong plenty of times when she tried to use her own society's values to guide her. She knew better now.

"In my kingdom, sexual harassment is punished with death. That you must only report it here and they receive a simple warning? Far from an overreaction. If someone has slapped you on the ass and you don't report it, you're teaching them that what they're doing is okay. Then they'll just go around and harass and make more people feel exactly the way you do right now. Someone has to stand up to them and make sure it doesn't happen again. No one deserves this."

Ama tilted her head to the side when he laughed and thanked her, then nodded. "I'm glad I could help in some way, and...provide some humor. I can only hope my words have done some good here." Her eyes shifted from blue to purple in the light when she moved to straighten up, still looking at him. She was still holding his hand at this point, and she knew it. "Hopefully you don't feel as angry now..?"

Zach sighed. He didn't think he could really explain what he felt properly, especially with what Ama just said. He could see how that made Ama angry, but they weren't in that community. Zach didn't want anyone to die for anything as minor as that... He decided maybe it'd be best to forget about it for now. He didn't want to bother Ama more than he already had.

When he saw Ama starting to stand up, he opted to also stand up. He kinda never registered this entire time that he had been holding her hand, and it only just now clicked. He suddenly wished he hadn't taken down the hood and bandaging as he definitely felt a little bit embarrassed. It's a good thing Jay didn't follow them after they left, she wouldn't have let this go ever.

He took a deep breath and thought for a while. Sure he was still angry, he had been feeling angry ever since the incident took place, but at least he didn't feel angry enough that he would try to throw a truck at someone. He nodded. "Yeah, I'm definitely still angry... but less than before." He smiled a little.

"Good."

Ama still wasn't confident that her words had actually managed to get through and help Zach in any substantial way, but at least she tried. No one could fault her for trying. She tilted her head at him and blinked, then looked down at their hands. Holding hands was nice, and of course she wanted to keep holding it, but she too knew that not all humanoids liked physical contact as much as she did. Not to mention, he'd just suffered from sexual assault and she didn't think hand-holding was going to be very appreciated without reminding him of that.

She let go and pulled her hand back.

Her jaw twitched as she thought, a leftover habit from her original form. What was she supposed to say now? Zach wasn't much of a talker. Was this the part where she offered to go get ice cream? Good enough; no humanoid could turn down sweet dairy delicacies. "Would you like to go get some ice cream? The chocolate flavor could help cheer you up."

As soon as Ama let go of his hand, he gingerly brought his hand back to his side. He didn't want to make Ama worry more than it seemed he already had. Frankly, he really did appreciate her effort. He felt a bit better, but he wasn't sure if Ama would even believed him no matter how many times he would try to say.

He usually kept to a diet, to keep in shape for fighting, but he decided screw it. One treat for one pretty crappy day wouldn't hurt. "I can't say chocolate would cheer me up, but I'd still want some ice cream. Sure." He nodded. He wasn't lying at all, he genuinely liked vanilla better than chocolate ice cream.

"Perhaps that's because of your physiology? Chocolate is scientifically proven to improve the moods of most humans, as it encourages the increase in the release of endorphins in the brain..." Aimouryllice went on and on about the effects of chocolate on humans as she led Zach from their spot in the park, discreetly stepping over the one half of the rock he hadn't crushed into the ground. She was always eager to share what knowledge she'd gained from her time on the island, so even if Zach remained quiet on their journey for frozen dairy products, Ama was more than happy to fill the silence with her words.
