As soon as Zach got out of the community centre, he pretty much started running. He would've sprinted if it wasn't for Ama also being there. He hadn't been this angry since he was a child, stubbornly throwing a tantrum due to something petty. But he wasn't a brat throwing a tantrum now. Back then, he would've only been able to pick up something moderately heavy. Now he could become a demon who could lift 3 tonnes.

No, he wasn't scared. He'd dry retch than be scared of Broen. No he was angry. Furious. His form changed to that of armour and red cloth. His demon form. He couldn't stop himself shifting, but he had to stop what could come after. Right now, he was a demon who could lift 400kg. If he couldn't stop himself, he would rapidly become an out of control demon who could lift just over 3 tonnes. A very dangerous demon who could hurt Ama... and he didn't want that.

He had picked up his speed, and he realised he went into exactly what he didn't want when his speed went up to the extreme. He probably outran Ama quite a while ago, seeing how he was currently running at 40 miles an hour... He finally slid to a stop, conveniently but a decently sized rock. Not a boulder, but a big rock. He just punched it. It split right into half, and Zach stood there panting with his arm out. He stood stiff, almost statue like.

Aimouryllice a'Phoche had a sneaking suspicion that Zach would take off running, so the moment she was out the door she was running after him too. Sometimes she wondered why she bothered interfering with the islanders' affairs, why she didn't spend her time doing more beneficial things like ensure that shelter is built for her people, or make sure the oceans were filled with plenty of fish (that was a dating website, Robert told her once). Sometimes it just felt right to meddle, and Ama knew better than to ignore those feelings.

With effort she managed to keep up with Zach, who she realized had changed into his demon form at some point. She always remained a couple meters away, not willing to risk being clothes-lined if she tried to stop him. It was easy to keep track of him if she lost sight of him, anyways--her nose in her birth form was extraordinarily strong. So when she stopped herself with claws digging into the earth, high heels tucked under one arm, she wasn't surprised by the rage she saw.

Ama caught her breath, staring at Zach's back from still another several meters away. She didn't say anything--she knew it wouldn't get through to him, and if it did it was just going to anger him even more. He had to let his anger out on his own, or else he'd never figure his feelings out.

So Ama stood ready where she was and clicked softly--sounds that her people would make to calm monstrous sharks down. Zach might not've been a shark, but it was worth a shot in her eyes. She was here to help, not to antagonize him, and she wanted him to see that.

Zach started pacing back and forth. His hands clenched tightly, he could barely feel the pain in his fingers. That was the downside of being in this form... this frenzy. His body didn’t restrict itself, so his own strength harmed him. This was no different.

He picked up the larger half of the rock he just shattered. He continued pacing as he held it with complete ease. How he paced, with his eyes casted to the ground, he looked like some caged predator.

He made a noise of frustration and he threw the rock into the ground. It definitely went down an inch and a half, with various parts of it breaking off. He slapped his foot down, crushing it once and for all. He immediately sat down, cross legged as he stared downwards.

Ama watched him carefully, making her soft clicking noises all the while. Half of her was telling her to stop and admire this blatantly attractive display of strength, but she mentally slapped that half down and thought that's not important right now. But she'd reflect on it later.

When he finally sat down, Ama began to approach--very slowly, her hands open and held up to show him she wasn't about to hurt him or make any sudden movements. She eventually (slowly) sat down a couple feet away, just watching him.

"Zach?" she whispered. She set a clawed hand down on the ground and slowly inched it towards him. He could hold it if he wanted to. "I'm right here with you." There wasn't much else she could say--she couldn't just tell him 'it's okay' when it obviously wasn't. She could tell him to 'calm down' and expect him to listen. She didn't know what he needed right now--only he could tell her that, but for now she'd offer herself as a pillar of support--a rock, she would've called herself until she saw what he did to the last one.

His hands remained clenched, but he did look at Ama’s hand. He would never admit it but it did help. Even it was a fraction, it helped him ease the grip on his own hands and let his body relax. He wasn’t surrounded by people, or... those two. He was alone with Ama, and he truly appreciated that it was her.

He wouldn’t have been able to stand Jay seeing him like this. He knew he was linked with her from her reaction. He hoped she went home instead of searching for him. Mostly because he knew she would ask him why he didn’t come home the previous evening. He doesn’t plan on ever explaining that.

He slowly reached his hand to hers and took it in his own. Pain in various parts of his body emerged, and places where it already existed intensified. But he breathed a sigh of relief for what it meant. He was pulled out from frenzy. He wouldn’t hurt Ama, or himself anymore than he had.

Ama couldn't help but smile when she felt him take her hand. It filled her with relief--maybe he wasn't entirely done being upset, but at least he wasn't going to rip her apart if she tried to talk to him. She looked down, noting how her hand looked so small and dainty compared to his. She gave his hand a gentle squeeze, careful not to pierce him with her long claws.

"What they did was wrong," she said softly, though her voice was urgent. "It isn't your fault, Zach. This is really important..." Ama's fins twitched and swayed a little bit, her sharp shark-like teeth gnawing lightly on her tongue in thought. "It's not okay that he did that to you, and it's not okay that he keeps harassing you about it. You didn't ask for any of that. It's not your fault."

"You have a right to be mad. You know you do...You don't have to pretend that it's okay or keep dealing with it on your own. I'm...I'm right here." Trying to comfort an islander was risky business when they weren't as emotionally open as her people were with each other, but the best she could do was let him know that she was here for him if he needed her. He'd open up eventually--hopefully.

Although Zach held Ama’s hand, he held it loosely. Tight enough that he was holding it but... loose enough that his hand was almost limp. Partly because he afraid of himself. All it took was for him to squeeze too hard and he’d crush her hand. Even if she could heal, he didn’t exactly want to hurt her. Although still a bit limp, his hand did tighten its grip a little.

This form meant his face couldn’t be seen. His eyes were the only thing not blatantly covered, but even then the hood made it difficult to see them. Add in the fact he was intentionally not looking at Ama’s face... He wasn’t giving any emotion away. He just sat there and listened to Ama.

His mothers said it was alright for him to feel angry. For a while, he felt that he was fine to feel anger. He really planned to tell Broen to piss off, but he didn’t have that energy anymore after the past couple of days. Zach felt in the wrong. His mothers overreacted, he shouldn’t be angry. He did the wrong thing, no one else did. He deserved to be told that. Deserved all the insults. He wouldn’t say that to Ama’s face, especially after how she reacted when he said about what happened at first. He lifted his head to look at Ama for the first time and slowly nodded. “Yeah... okay.” He held a neutral tone like he always had, not giving what he truly believed. He couldn’t upset her because of his own weakness. He wouldn’t bring anyone down.

Ama knew before Zach had even lifted his head that none of her words had gotten through to him. She didn't know what she expected.

There was nothing that could have prepared her for the horrible, deep-set emotions of foreign species. She wasn't prepared for her encounters with their fear and misplaced sense of self-preservation, their secrets. Her people were nothing like this--how happy were they compared to these creatures? How comforted and reassured must they have been to know that all the world was their family? They would've never shut her out like this. Ama felt her throat tighten, but she couldn't tell if it was from frustration or sorrow. Perhaps both. This island was getting to her.

She knew her words were falling on deaf ears, and it made her want to rip off this dumb power bracelet that her words might finally be loud enough that someone would just listen. Zach could feel her hand trembling in his. Her fingers were tense, claws hovering.

"Do you even want my help?" she said slowly, enunciating every word. Ama meanwhile picked up her studded choker to snap around her thin neck, twisting her form back into that of a human. Her hands were still small, but like this they were less likely to shred his skin. Like this, she felt like she was even a smidge closer to knowing how to relate to the eternally closed-off demon sitting in front of her. She was trying, as hopeless as she felt.

How dare she try.

Zach’s eyes widened in surprise when he saw her. Having Jay as a younger sister, he was pretty good at spotting when someone was upset. But he was taken completely off guard when he saw that with Ama. He felt deep rooted guilt when she spoke. The part of him that made him feel this was his fault wanted to say no, but the rest of him did want her help.

He used his free arm to pull down the hood and bandaging, letting Ama see his face properly. He tightened his grip on Ama’s hand, not caring if it was Vox Somni or human right now. It was hard to explain what he wanted right now. Yes, he wanted help. So very bad. He wanted someone to tell him he was justified to feel this way, to comfort him, to listen. But he also wanted to be left alone, to wallow in his thoughts. Even then there was the part that wanted to scream and destroy.

For a while, Zach opened his mouth like he was about to say something, but would close it again. He finally inhaled and squeezed Ama’s hand. “Ama... I’m sorry...” He didn’t look completely to the ground, but his eyes did lower a bit. “I...” He had to come to a decision for what he would say. Due to his nature, he knew he would stick by it no matter what. Because he was talking to Ama, he wanted to doubly do so. He finally opened his mouth to speak again. “I do want help... it’s just it’s hard to explain what I want. I’m angry, yeah. But I also feel it’s my fault, that they’re right.” Not even a part of his nature, but just him as a person, Zach never really opened up to people like this. Usually it was only his family, and very few close friends who he lost touch with a while ago. But here he was in the park, doing just that.

Ama was wholly expecting him to say 'no, not really' in response to her question, so when he apologized to her she let out a sigh. Maybe one day she'd learn how to comfort people well enough that they actually wanted to open up to her, but today was not that--oh my God she had human whiplash. She blinked several times as Zach started to confess how he was feeling. Surprised, she tried to think back on what she could've said to possibly change his mind--all she'd done was ask a question. She guessed she would take this small victory, not without confusion, but she wasn't going to celebrate just yet.

"Why would they be right at all? Maybe you are good-looking to them, but that doesn't give them the right to violate your body without your consent." Ama wrapped her fingers around his and gave them a squeeze in return, trying to think of how best to talk this through. "If a sleazy old guy slapped a young girl's behind and said it's because she's hot, is that okay? Is it okay for everyone to harass the girl and tell her she's weak and pathetic for being sexually harassed? She has a right to be upset. You have a right to be upset."

"It's no different for a guy. Maybe in this society it feels different, but it's not. It's not your fault when you didn't give him your consent, and anyone who tries to tell you you're weak and wrong for feeling upset is a sexist asshole--excuse my language."

Ama ran her free hand down the front of her bangs and smoothed them down. She looked over to Zach, going quiet as she thought. Would he appreciate a hug, maybe? She wasn't usually the hugging type. For now, she just moved her second hand to settle on top of his, hoping that this was comfort enough without making him feel uncomfortable or violated any more than he already was.
