"Superheroes aren't really allowed here," he explained. "'Cause, uh, vigilantes. People who do hero stuff without permission from the laws. Only police and scouts and people like them can do that stuff, and Angelo's becoming a scout! Do you know what a scout is?"

Junchi was very excited to educate this girl. Talking about what he knows well is great. Talking about what he knows well while being praised and getting excited reactions from his audience is the greatest ego boost he could ask for.

"Scouts are people who go off the island to find people who are supernatural or too different from normal people, right? And they do stuff... to... help the veil?" she guessed, seeming to recite something she'd heard previously.

Junchi nodded. "Mhm! That. Angelo's going to do that stuff. And scouts are baaaasically superheroes to a lot of the people they help. He's basically a superhero again but with a different name. Cool, right? I bet I could let you meet him someday."

He would have preferred to bait the girl into being his friend with his own qualities, but using someone else was good too. It showed how great his connections were.

Her pupils were wide again and her eyes seemed to sparkle. "Really...? Wow..." she breathed. She paused thoughtfully for a moment, readjusting her hands to hold the straps of her little pink backpack.

"Do you think he could tell me how to become a scout? Allen – the boy who showed me comic books – he said I could be a superhero when I got bigger!

...Do you know about becoming a scout?" she added curiously.

Junchi had to think about that for a moment. "Mmmm, I don't know much. I bet Angelo could tell more. All I know is that you have to do training before becoming one but it doesn't take suuuuuper long. I think you need to be an adult too since it's work stuff." That last part he definitely wasn't sure about, but it made sense.

"I think the best way for you to become a scout right now is study and study and study and get great grades. You have to be smart and good at fighting and helping people to be a scout."

Isabelle nodded at each point the boy mentioned – even to all three 'study's.

"I think I can get smart," she said with a decent amount of confidence. "My teacher's nice and I've gotten good at reading. But... How do you get good at fighting?"

The violence in Isabelle's comic books sometimes scared her, but usually only when it was coming from a villain, and they were always stopped before things got too terrible. She'd never really fought like her heroes before. She didn't know how she would try it, either. She didn't want to hurt anybody, and didn't know anybody bad who needed a good smack.

Now that was something Junchi knew all about. "My dads taught me how to fight, but there are classes here too. I heard some power classes teach self-defense stuff with your powers, but for older kids. There's a self-defense class anyone can join and some magical fighting classes here. They don't really teach you how to attack, just how to keep yourself safe and run away. That's something scouts should know."

If it wasn't for his mask, a wide smile could be seen on Junchi's face. "I can be your fighting friend if you want."

Isabelle nodded with determination. Those classes would be worth looking into, at least for the future. She could probably ask her teacher about it later.

"Fighting friend?" she then asked, furrowing her brow a little. "A friend you... fight with? Wouldn't that be dangerous?"

But subconsciously she shuffled in place, getting a little excited. This kid knew what he was talking about, so maybe it could be fun.
