Sunday morning and Liliana, who had actively spent the night before looking at her mother's old cookbooks and recipes, padded quietly into the sunlight kitchen in her rainbow unicorn onesie, complete with fuzzy ears, a sparkly horn and rainbow tail, and her pink fluffy slippers. She was quite determined to make her favourite breakfast food - pancakes. And not just any old pancakes, she was going to try to make blueberry banana pancakes.

As she entered the kitchen, cookbook in hand, she began to gather all the ingredients necessary together, placing each one on the island - flour, sugar, eggs, milk, oil, and baking powder along with two bananas and some blueberries. Then she grabbed a bowl to mix everything together.

Everything seemed pretty straight forward, and so the young - and somewhat naive - psychopomp, determined to prove that she could cook, and surprise her roommates with breakfast in the process, began measuring out all the ingredients into the bowl. First the milk, then the eggs, sugar, baking powder and flour. Then she took out the hand mixer and turned it on.

"Oh noo!" she cried out alarmed as flour started flying everywhere, including into her eyes and nose. "No, no, noo..." Liliana panicked as she dropped the beaters down on the counter, but forgot to turn them off, causing the appliance to whir along the granite top and then fall off with a loud thud to the floor while catching the carton of milk along the way, spilling it all over the floor of the kitchen.

Perhaps it was the harsh, merciless sunlight in the kitchen that made her squint, or more likely, it was the mess that greeted Haritia as she lumbered foggily into the kitchen. Each consecutive crash or roar or sputter had hit her ears like a brick to the head. If for no other reason than to tell someone to shut it, she had dragged herself from her bed and followed the song of mayhem into the kitchen.

"What the hell are you doing...?" she croaked, spying Liliana in the midst of her panic.

Haritia seemed... a little shorter today. And longer. Her hair was an absolute mess, as was the fur of a lion-like body that began past her neck. Wings protruded from her back... and drooped at her sides in a sad mess of feathers. In any other circumstance, walking out in her sphinx form might have been an interesting surprise, though at this moment, she looked like a cat that had been forced into a bathtub.

By the time Haritia had entered the kitchen, Liliana was on her hands and knees, tea towel in hand, mopping up the spilled milk with flour stuck in her hair, on her face and all over her onesie. The hand mixer was also hanging by its cord, beaters still whirring as Liliana tried frantically to clean up the milk that was all over the floor.

"Haritia!?" Liliana cried out in shocked wide-eyed embarrassment when she saw her roommate standing there looming over her like an irate griffin who had been caught in a rainstorm.

"I was, uh, making pancakes," Liliana told her sheepishly as she grabbed another tea towel to sop up the rest of the milk on the floor.

The sphinx winced in pain as the girl shouted in surprise. "Could you turn that damn thing off already...?" she groaned, giving the hand mixer such a dirty look. As if it was making such a racket on purpose.

"You know a whisk works pretty good, right? Lot less loud, too," she pointed out sarcastically.

"A what? A whisk?!" Liliana replied as she stared dumbly at Haritia, at first not understanding what she meant. But, then after a moment, when it dawned on her suddenly what a whisk was, Liliana went bright pink and mumbled a frantic apology.

"Gods, I am so sorry, Haritia. Gimme a sec," Liliana said, feeling very stupid as she then grabbed ahold of the cord of the offending appliance and tugged on it until the hand mixer stopped its futile whirring.

The sphinx noticeably eased as the noise finally ceased. She took a deep breath and sighed in relief. "Much better..." she mumbled.

"So, pancakes? That's what you were doing in here?" She sat down on the floor, simply looking at the mess and at Liliana.

"...What time is it?"

"Yeah..." Liliana groaned as she sat back against the kitchen cupboards defeated, the wet towels in a pile beside her.

"I was trying to make blueberry banana pancakes. I wanted to surprise everyone with breakfast this morning," she confessed glumly.

"It's a little after nine-thirty," Liliana said as she glanced up at the clock on the wall.

The sphinx seemed to grimace a bit at the early hour. She had really wanted to sleep in today. But, she was already up, and waking up despite her throbbing headache. No point in going back to bed now.

"Alright well that's kinda cool," she admitted, giving Liliana a slight grin.

"Well, since I'm up, I could help ya if ya want. Since you seem kinda..." She stole a glance at the hand mixer.

"...Beaten."

Liliana couldn't help but crack a smile at Haritia's very accurate pun. "Beaten, whipped, and creamed, I am," she answered with a giggle.

"I am obviously a danger to let loose in a kitchen, at least by myself," she admitted sheepishly.

"Sorry, I woke you with my culinary chaos, and I'd really appreciate the help," Liliana said as she got to her feet and threw the milk sodden towels in the sink.

Haritia appreciated Liliana furthering her pun, and then appreciated her alliteration. She got to her feet as well and began wandering the kitchen to get her bearings. In the month that she'd lived there, Haritia hadn't actually done a whole lot of cooking there.

"Nah, it's all good. You do have to get me a soda for my hangover though. With a straw." She couldn't exactly pick anything up at the moment.

She scanned the counter tops. The mess around the mixing bowl was easy enough to see, but the sphinx noticed it was just the one bowl there.

"Alright, so your first mistake was only using one mixing bowl. You usually have to mix your wet ingredients separately from your dry ones. Then mix 'em together.

This'll work, though, this'll work. You probably just want to top off the flour, since you lost a bit to the evil mixer."
