Disappointing. The playground today at school wasn't as active as usual. People here were too sensitive to wet and cold weather. Now that the air was getting chillier, people were being diswayed from coming out, but it wasn't that good. It was still sunny and a good day to play. So while Junchi's dad was working, Junchi ran around the playground looking for interesting kids to play with.

One good thing about the small number of kids was that it was easier to pick someone to approach. He went with a brown-skinned, blonde bat girl. He ran to a stop in front of her. "Hi! I think you're really pretty. I like your hair and eyes. And your wings! They're soooo cool."

Isabelle nearly jumped out of her skin. With her back arched in a defensive stance, she stared at the strange individual in front of her, her eyes skipping from feature to feature as her brain raced to identify the individual. It took a moment, but their greeting clicked. Their shape was strange, but so was hers. And she could tell by their face that they were a kid.

"Oh..." she finally piped up. "Thanks. You really think so?" she asked hopefully, her ears perking just a little.

Junchi took a couple of steps back from the bat girl, though not with any offensive or defensive positioning. He wanted to give her some space. It looked like it worked. Once she had time to process his words, she calmed down significantly.

"Yeah I do! So are you a bat girl? You look like one. Aah, that's so cool! You're like... You're like that girl in Remi's comic books. Batgirl!"

Suddenly, the girl's eyes went wide, her pupils narrowing to mere slits.

"There are comics about a bat girl??" she exclaimed. She shimmied a little closer, gazing up at the kid eagerly.

"Or, d'you mean there is just a bat girl character? What comics are they? Are they from the library?"

Junchi nodded several times. "There are comics about a girl who dresses up to look like a bat and she fights crime. She's not a real bat girl, but I think some people mistake her for one. Her comic is called Batgirl and..."

He paused, unsure how to answer the last question. "I think so? I remember a comic and manga section in the library..."

The girl nodded vigorously. As they talked, she had slowly risen onto her tiptoes, gazing intensely at the other child.

"Yeah! I got comics from the library! I got Thor and Spider-Man and Wonder Woman!" she quickly informed. Then she tilted her head and her eyes dilated again.

"What's manga?"

"Manga is Japanese comic books! My big sister, Remi, she has a whooole bunch of comics books and some manga. She really really likes superheroes too. Actually, she's friends with some and is dating an ex-superhero. I'm also friends with an ex-superhero. His name is Angelo Genovese."

Junchi regretted not knowing about comic books as much as his siblings, but he at least had that to brag about. Even if it wasn't completely true that he was friends with the famous Angelo Genovese.

"Ooh... I never thought about meeting superheros before..." she said dreamily.

"What's Angelo Genovese like? What's his power? Is... Is that his superhero name or his real name? Is it really okay to tell me what his real name is?" she asked, growing concerned. It was dangerous for superheros to give out their name. If they did that, the villains would be able to find them and their families.

It was refreshing to talk to someone as talkative as himself. "Angelo Genovese is his real name. His superhero name is Jude. His power is being really smart. He's like Iron Man or Batman. And he's not a superhero anymore so it's okay. All the superheroes and supervillains from his world came here and now they're being good. Angelo used to be part of the student council and I know where he works too, and he used to just go by Jude, so he's not hiding."

"Woooah..."

Isabelle didn't know Iron Man or Batman yet, but if there were comics about them, she knew she'd come across them sooner or later.

"Why is he not a superhero anymore?" she asked next. "Where does he work instead?"
