Hal counted down to himself, muttering the numbers under his breath, while his gaze was on his watch — which conveniently had a timer. "3... 2... 1..." Hal sighed heavily. Taking another deep breath, he came in contact with his physical body before everything went dark.

It would have taken a few seconds in Shinji's point of view, but Hal surely wouldn't have noticed how long he was out when he finally got around. His eyes fluttered open as he straightened up on his seat. He turned his neck side to side to get rid of the uncomfortable feeling it had because of the odd position it was on earlier. He should have left his body in a better position, he thought to himself. Now his neck feels weird.

Looking to his side, Hal found Shinji who seemed to be lost in thought. "Sorry that took long." he said, his voice coming out queitly. "I usually end up being left unconscious for hours if I forced myself back while there's friction between this form and that." he said, smiling wryly as he scratched the back of his neck.

Everything was rather silent while Shinji sat on the bench by himself awaiting the time when Hal would return to the world that Shinji knew and loved. He didn't know exactly what was happening with Hals ability but it was different than anything that Shinji had every known. Soon enough, though, Hals hazy appearance had shifted through the air and made it to his actual body. "Is he finally getting back to his own body?" Shinji thought to himself as he watched the haze disappear.

After a few seconds, Hal had awakened from inside his own physical body. He sat up in his seat and seemed to be trying to get comfortable. His neck being out stretched in each direction to avoid a cramp or knot in his neck. This was a smart thing to do considering the position he left his body in before. Soon after getting accustomed to the area around him, Hal had spoken to Shinji apologizing for the extended period of time that they waited. Standing up Shinji replied calmly, "It's no problem, I had nothing better to do." Ending his reply with a slight chuckle, he listened to what else Hal had to say. "It's fine, really."

Shortly after this, Shinji extended his arm to his fellow student at the academy for a hand shake. "It's nice to officially meet you physically. So what is your special ability exactly anyways?" Shinji asked. He was curious on how he was able to do such a thing and why it was so hard to get back to his body. He was hoping that Hal would indulge him with this information.

Hal sighed as Shinji pardoned him for having him wait longer than necessary. That was good. It was always a bad time when people couldn't talk to him unless he was conscious in his real body. It was either they have to wait that long or just not talk to him at all. But the former always left him a bit guilty.

Reaching his hand out, Hal returned the hand shake with a somewhat tired smile. "Uh. You too." He let out an odd chuckle. He wasn't really good with the 'it's nice to meet you' line.

"My ability?" Hal echoed as he withdrew his hand, leaving it to his side, clutching the edge of the bench. "Well, primarily it's astral projection. It's basically making a 3D image of myself but my consciousness goes to that image. But my second power's kinda tied to it too so it sorta complicates the whole thing." he explained. He disliked how it had to tie with his main ability, it was harder to train that way. "I haven't really figured that one out but I learned I kind of have an effect on anything that runs on electricity, especially in my projection. I also kinda feel magnetized with currents or something like that." he added.

"What about you though? I could have sworn I felt a pulse earlier. Was that you?"

Hal had returned the handshake that Shinji had attempted to give him. Within moments of the handshake, Shinji felt a little lightheaded. He didn't know what it was that made him feel in such a way all of a sudden but he shrugged it off for now. He didn't think much of it because it may just be from his being tired from that last training session with Mr. Cunninham earlier. Upon letting go of each other's hands, they continued conversation. Shinji though didn't feel better for about a minute after words. It was odd to him in many ways.

Without further ado, Ha began his explanation of his powers. "Astral Projection, huh?" Shinji thought. To him it was interesting and he had to learn more about it. Though he wouldn't ask Hal about more information on it because he wanted to know everything there was to know about it and obviously Hal wouldn't be able to deliver every single detail because he is still trying to understand it himself. He also had a second power that was tied to it. Shinji was a little less fascinated with this though. After his thoughts had subsided, Shinji tuned back into Hal's words more than before hearing the following: "...but I learned I kind of have an effect on anything that runs on electricity..." Shinji gasped a little once he heard this and began to think again. "That must be what I felt earlier. It makes so much sense now!" Shinji had a mini epiphany obviously and was slightly proud of it now that he knew the feeling he had wasn't someone's intentions on hurting him.

Tuning back into Hal's words once again, Shinji heard him ask about his own abilities. "What about you though? I could have sworn I felt a pulse earlier. Was that you?" he said. Shinji smirked and said, "Yea that was me. My primary ability is to create lightning from the electrical currents the brain naturally emits through the nervous system. Like so..." Shinji finished his explanation and followed up with a demonstration. He held out his hands around a foot apart from one another and within a few seconds lighting currents traveled from palm to palm showing off the bright blue display of light. "The ability I like to call secondary is healing. I can heal small injuries once they happen. Nothing big though. I did feel your interference with the lightning coursing through my own body when we shook hands though, it wasn't a pleasant feeling to be honest." Shinji finished as he put both hands in his pockets.

Hal's eyebrow twitched a little when he noticed that his new friend seemed to have perked up at the mention of his second ability. Or at least, his ambiguous explanation of it, but Hal decided to shrug it off as simple interest or curiosity of sorts and moved on with the conversation.

Without a word, Hal listened to Shinji as he went on and explained, and subsequently demonstrating his ability. He only looked at the bright light between the other student's hands and he swore he started to feel lightheaded and almost lured to the light. It was based from electricity, he thought. Of course, he always had that feeling around open currents. At the back of his mind, Hal wanted to try what it would be like to let the electricity run through him, but then decided against it. He wouldn't know if he'll survive it.

Hal wasn't nearly as interested as he was when Shinji moved on to tell him about his second ability. Healing was one of the things he was never really interested in, but then the taller student almost quickly added that he actually felt the disturbance when they made contact. Hal was almost immediately filled with guilt, "Ah- Shit- Sorry, I-" he began to stammer out, "I didn't know-- If I had know I could have... agh... damn..." he cussed under his breath.

Of course, neither of them knew about each other's ability. Hal hadn't mentioned about his probable electrokinesis or technopathy or whatever it was supposed to be; not until after the handshake and neither did Shinji mention about his attribution to electricity until now.

"Sorry... I just literally have no control over that. I even had my phone covered with an insulator just so I don't mess it up. It wasn't that bad, was it?"

Upon finishing his explanation of his powers and the fact that he was able to feel the slight but noticeable disturbance between there physical contact, Shinji saw that Hal was feeling guilty. The only way that Shinji could tell Hal was feeling guilty, besides the profanity that was being let wildly slide from his lips, was his expression. His face seemed to fall quickly directly after mentioning it. Shinji began to laugh. This small laugh began to grow as he thought on it more and more. "Excuse my rude laughter, but umm..." He paused to recompose himself and get himself together. "There is no need for the words you just uttered nor is there a reason for you to feel like you do. Really, it's fine. I didn't die so there shouldn't be a problem at all." Shinji said with a grin on his face.

"But in all seriousness, this disturbance that you seem to have when you come into contact with electronics and electrical based objects may be a problem in the future." Shinji stated as he put his thumb on his chin. Looking into the sky thinking, he continues. "I don't know about you but I don't mind being acquaintances or friends or what not. But that may get in the way of a lot of future events that we may both be taking part in. Correct me if I'm wrong."

Hal immediately realized how his calm facade quickly broke down in front of Shinji when he'd started panicking over probably temporarily disturbing his 'internal wiring'. He wouldn't have come to that realization though if Shinji didn't start laughing.

As Shinji excused himself from laughing, Hal felt somewhat embarrassed for having reacted that way. Shinji's grin only made it worse. 'Oh God, that must have been so humiliating...!', Hal scolded himself.

He didn't look up when Shinji spoke again but he responded. His gaze was steady on a rose bush that was right across the garden, at the view behind Shinji. "I've... had accidents with it from time to time. But most were manageable." he said. If shorting out the lighting in a nearby building was manageable, then the world must be crazy.

A few seconds later, he would look up at Shinji, but avoid to make eye contact. "And what do you mean by that? 'Get in the way of future events'? We're not getting into a battle royale kind of thing, are we?" he said almost absentmindedly. His thoughts were too focused one trying to flush out that embarrassing string of words he'd spouted earlier that he was getting even worse.

"I've... had accidents with it from time to time. But most were manageable." Hal said trying to convince Shinji that he had it under control for the most part. Shinji did believe him for a moment even though Hal wouldn't make any kind of eye contact at all. Shinji shrugged it off since it was probably just Hal being modest. Though they had only been chatting for a small moment of time, it seemed like the day was going by rather fast.

Looking up to Shinji, still without eye contact, Hal had asked what Shinji meant by future events. "A battle royale?" Shinji asked in a confused voice. "Nothing like that" He began with a little chuckle. Continuing he said, "I hope there wont be anything like that. But I meant smaller things. I run almost completely on electricity or lightning, whatever you want to call it. If small contact like that was to make me a little light headed then other things me be worse on me. Just thinking of the possibilities that's all."

Ever since Shinji had pointed out the disturbance from Hal's latent power, Shinji's reactions had become Hal's indicator of blundering up. Hearing him repeat the words 'battle royale' in a confused voice followed by a chuckle, Hal just wanted to run his hands through his face for saying such a dumb thing.

Hal exhaled slowly as he tried to recover from having said things out of nowhere. "Well..." he paused, trying to find the proper words, "That would be your choice if you'd rather not have anything to do with me for that." he began.

Hal shifted his weight to his other leg as he continued "If you're worried about me accidentally sending you in a coma, my control over the spikes is better than before so you can be sure I won't be causing you dizzy spells just by standing within 2 feet from me."

It occurred to Hal that they were making this sound like a negotiation.

"That would be your choice if you'd rather not have anything to do with me for that." Hal replied to Shinji. To Shinji this made him feel like he had said something wrong. Hal seemed to be getting the wrong idea from what Shinji said. He didn't want to keep Hal from his life just something as small as this. This also made him think that Hal may have had issues with people not wanting to be around him before. "No, that's not what i meant. I have no intention of ridding you from my life from something like this. If anything, it makes me want to keep you around more so i can see how your ability works and so I can develop a way to prevent it from happening to me." Shinji explained. He tried to play out the words to that he would say it correctly without making the situation worse.

"I can't say that I'm not worried about these 'spikes'..." Shinji started but paused to think to himself. "How do I put this?" he said in his thoughts. "I should say that I am not as worried as I could be but I don't figure that they would give me that type of feeling just by standing 2 feet away from me. That is just nonsense." Shinji said finishing his previously started sentence.

Shinji looked into the sky and thought to himself for a moment before Hal could reply. "Time is starting to pass rather fast now that he and I are actually talking and not writing short notes." The sky was beginning to turn a hot orange as the sun was beginning its decent from the sky. "I think I may want to go to the roof tonight again. I need to do something thinking. Maybe even some experimenting..."
