Hal kept a stern look at the taller student as he responded to him. He kept i so even when Shinji himself was giving him nearly the same serious look. It wasn't that Hal was unused to being partially, if not mostly ignored for the entirety of the conversation. No, he was very used to that. But this was a different thing, a different topic. Hal could let it go if it was just his query about deadlines, schedules and all that. After asking a thousand other students about it, he'd narrow down which were the accurate answers and he'd figure it out himself.
But this was a personal thing.
Hal actually found himself someone who could help him out, yet Hal felt like he wasn't really up to the task of actually doing so. At least, that was how Hal could see it.
"Right. Obviously, you were." Hal muttered under his breath. Right after he had said that, Shinji turned on his heels and began to walk away. And by the looks of it, he seemed to be in a hurry. Hal didn't feel so happy about it. Upset, maybe.
But before Hal was able to turn around to face the direction to the woods, he heard Shinji speak again. Don't be late! he said to Hal. Hal stood still there for a moment before he was able to utter a timid response, "Yeah... I'll try not to." he said, just loud enough to him to hear, but he wasn't sure if Shinji could.
A second after, Hal turned around to walk the opposite direction. He could have sworn Shinji sounded a little... cheery with that last line.
