Jacob was a little thankful that Lenn was the first one to really bring up her profession again. With the ice broken on that issue, he could muster a bit more courage to talk about it. He started planning out the questions in his head as he would continue to feed the poor woman. He would focus mainly on the job she mentioned, and get details on that specifically. By getting a nice narrative about that one job, he could get a better general understanding of what she did and how she did it. Then--
What followed happened so fast that Jacob felt like he was lagging in time. Gunshots. Glass shattering. The spoon disappeared in his hand. Someone was tugging at his shirt. He was rolling over the couch. More gunshots. He was hitting the floor. Lenn was saying something.
It took a moment for his brain to catch up and holy shit, he was being shot at! Lenn had a gun! Holy shit!
"Holy shit!"
Out of panic, he nearly scrambled to his feet out of reflex, but a zooming bullet nearby somewhere forced him back to the ground. His expression was a mix of confusion and shock, and his eyes were going everywhere at once as he failed to find the words to answer Lenn. He could barely feel his heart and he could only stammer.
"W-W-W-What the hell is going on, Lenn?! Why are the--"
He knew. He just knew. This was a retaliation of some sort. When he had wanted to know more about her past life, her past life came to make a personal appearance and give him a live demonstration. For a moment, he wondered what he had gotten himself into.
