One of the least surprising things about being an exile from one's home was the sudden lack of familiar comforts, yet it still never ceased to cause nostalgia in Lelei. At that point in his life on the land, Lelei should have been reasonably adjusted to his new life without most of the things he had grown accustomed to beneath the waves. He had been on land long enough to get used to land foods or find replacements for his usual food, and he had made quite a few friends and acquaintances in local law enforcement. But more often than he would care to admit, he would find a craving for the distinctly ocean foods and snacks that always settled his nerves before the exile.
Land dwellers had varied tastes and ate plenty of different things, and Lelei learned that they consumed even MORE things in other parts of the world. Yet there were still a handful of things they dared not eat that he craved and could never find. On the rare occasion that he could find it, it was never prepared in the same way. He missed the spiced anemone jellies and the sour mixes of stuffed sea slugs.
In an effort to seek out any place that could conceivably carry these seeming ocean-only treats and delicacies, Lelei relented and traveled to the Underground borough of the city. He surmised that any place that featured a high density of magical and arcane shops could possibly have an establishment that carried exotic foods like the ones he craved, or could make them with a good enough recipe.
One of the nice things about walking about the magical marketplaces was that, unlike most of Manta Carlos, he received significantly less strange looks. Well, he still got a glance or two, but less people gawked and no one screamed MONSTER. Hell, when he approached a possible vendor at an outdoor farmers-esque market that showcased numerable odd and weird "foods", Lelei did not even have to get them to calm down or stop screaming.
"Excuse me, sir, but you would not happen to carry anemone jellies would you? I have such a craving..."
