Ven perked up suddenly at the mention of Lich.

Now, Ven was generally not skilled at knowing the ins and outs of the non-humans on the island. Back at his old school, Ven and Tsun used to play Dungeons & Dragons after school with the band club. Ven was usually a fighter, but sometimes he would try to dual class with the most incompatible things. His favorite had been a druid fighter rogue who refused to kill humans or bears, in a campaign where they were fighting werebears. The werebear's ruler had been a lich.

Which meant his soul was contained somewhere else.

This, this had Ven very, very interested. He wasn't sure how he could just bring this up in casual conversation. It helped that Charlie provided the information first, but Ven wasn't sure if it was polite to ask.

So he decided to admit that instead.

"I have to be honest, the only thing I know about liches is through Dungeons & Dragons," Ven explained. "Prior coming to the island, I didn't even know my powers were powers. I just thought it was, uh, a head injury or something."

He asked, "So you would say it's been worth it, then, having this time to get your knowledge?"

"Worth it and then some." He smiled "and i still haven't learned it all. Its a sky i can always reach for."

It really was. That was his aim. He had discovered early on that his mind was no longer constrained by mortality, as his necromantic field acted as his brain. An infinite brain for an infinite amount of information. So he had resolved to learn everything that he could, which, at that point in time, the amount of information was very little. Mountains were big, snow was cold, night came after day. But now there was so much information, so many new concepts. Unified field theory. Aliens. Eldritch creatures. Things he knew didn't know everything about... yet. But at this point in time, he was teaching because, well, he enjoyed it.

"So if you don't mind me asking, Ven, what are your powers?"

Ven was relieved to hear it was worth it.

Painfully relieved, if he wanted to admit that. Too often, Ven felt that he heard from people with powers, people who lived a long time, that what they did to get or increase their powers wasn't worth it. That's what someone told him when he asked about being bitten, about trying to become a physical werewolf. It's not worth it, Thievenne.

He just hoped running for student council would be worth it. it was a small thing, in the grand big scheme of living endless centuries, but right now it meant a lot to him.

As for his powers, Ven shrugged. He was pretty nonchalant about this.

"My soul or spirit or whatever slips out sometimes and I get to run around as a wolf before I can get back to my body," Ven explained. He wished he could just say werewolf. "Unfortunately it doesn't provide as many great puns as my campaign mate. She's psychic, so we get to say things like 'your future is bright with us' and things like that."

Ven gave a short laugh. "Unfortunately I can't come up with a cool play on words for this."

Ooc: no worries! Hope you feel better! I'm probably going to steer this thread closed in my next post since the end is on the 26th. Hope you feel well!

"Some kind of pun like 'the campaign with soul'?" Charlie smiled, sipping at his tea.
"Yes it is a difficult one indeed. But good luck with the election, i hope you win. You seem like a nice enough kid."

He paused for a second, mulling over the information Ven had provided him about his powers "Have you ever thought of binding your soul to something?"

Charlie smiled thoughtfully. He had done something similar, the creation of his phylactery, the object which facilitated his becoming a lich. Maybe the boy could bind his soul to something. It might not stop the soul slipping out of his body, but it might ensure that his soul doesn't stay outside his body for too long. The science of souls was an imprecise one. Most people feared to test on their own, and it was impossible to test on another.

"Well, i'm always here if you need any advice" said Charlie, sipping at his mug "and i hope the election goes well."

Ven perked up again when Charlie mentioned the campaign with a soul.

"Oh my god," Ven said. "All the school spirit possibilities. I have been blind to them!"

He started to write frantically into his notebook, his enthusiasm increased considerably. The pen scratched across the paper; Ven tended to have a heavy hand when he wrote, which was a bit at odds with his interest in calligraphy that he used for the posters. He smiled up at the proffesor with his sharp white teeth.

"Thanks so much, sir, I really appreciate it," he said.

When the professor asked about binding his soul, Ven almost revealed everything to him right then and there. He seemed like a nice enough guy, and Ven was, quite frankly, desperate.

"I'd have no idea how to start," Ven confessed. "But it'd be really nice."

But the alarm on his phone started to go off, reminding Ven that he had another appointment, and he made an apologetic motion as he reached for the device to silence the alarm. He tucked the phone back into his pocket and took another sip of his coffee.

"Thank you again for your time, sir, I really appreciate it," Ven said, grinning up at the professor once more. His enthusiasm was almost unshakable now. He tucked his pen and paper back into his back pocket and picked himself up off the couch.

"If it's okay with you, I'd love to come back to talk about that, about the souls and stuff, when the election is over?" Ven asked. He gave a small wave and took off down the hall.

Maybe this could work after all.

And if it didn't?

At least he tried.
