Sela couldn't stand having Roland and Ophiel follow them everywhere. There were only a few safe places, the Student Lounge included. Roland still lingered around, but he didn't feel the need to keep a close eye on Sela. Other faculty members knew about Sela being a "child" who tried to run away.

There were a bit too many people around for comfort today. This was fine. No one paid much attention to them. There was the occasional glance and cooing at the tiny Jao and Myst as they sat on the table Sela was doing their homework on, however. Then their collars identifying them as sapient shape-shifters would be noticed and the two were given apologizes for being infantilized.

With class all wrapped up, all there was to do was finish the homework he got, contact his creator, make a quick journal entry, and go to bed. That was easy enough; it was only four things. Then the next day would come and he could just repeat the first day. But when he finally sat down to start his homework, the idea of staying in the student's lounge began to fade off. He had not anticipated there to be so many students in the lounge. There were more people in the lounge than in any of his classes, and trying to block them out would have been easier if some of them weren't so loud and occasionally coming too close. Doing his homework was becoming easier said than done.
He picked up his things, standing up as he searched for somewhere quieter to be. The library would have been a better choice; people were forced to be quiet and far less obnoxious there. Even better, he could try his new room. That space was for him, and it was all his. There was no endless chatter or inevitable clutter or people knocking into his table and chair. He resettled his grip on his textbooks, already moving out. He wasn't going to try doing work here again anytime soon.
He was still moving out when he noticed. . .something sitting down at a table, doing homework. Manta Carlos was full of strange beings, but this one was different. Instead of causing a ruckus or talking or even interacting with others, this one was working, two small, bizarre creatures sitting and watching. Some would pass the trio, playing with them before they eventually let out random apologies and walked away.
The being was different in more ways than simply being quiet. Their hair almost looked like a cloud of gas, strikingly different with its pastel hues. Their face almost resembled the stars themselves, shimmering like the night sky he had only just recently seen for the first time. They had horns too, and big, coned ears that all had the same odd pastel coloring. And their eyes. . .they were the same as well, though they seemed eternally. . .caught in a position he couldn't understand. But to add to the oddities, the being was giant, sporting two pairs of arms compared to his one.
And no one ever bothered the strange being.
So, maybe it would be quieter to sit with them instead.
Gray moved to the table, setting his books down before he took a seat at the far end of them. He kept his head down, already opening a new book to work with. Hopefully the others would take the hint and stay away from him, too.

Sela was quiet. Motionless, almost. Myst and Jao were giving them advice on their homework while making it look realistic that Sela did it all on their own. That was the initial plan, anyway. Nowadays, they dropped that halfway through to help Sela cheat. The school knew about Myst and Jao being connected to and created by Sela. Could they fault the three for helping each other out?

The sound of books hitting the table caused the three of them to snap out of it. Myst and Jao floated beside to inspect the stranger from afar. Sela simply looked up slowly with a blank expression, almost as if they just woke up.

"Hello," they replied. A second later, a small smile spread across their face. While Sela hadn't been here for a full year, it still annoyed them that their assignments always focused on learning social cues, empathy, body language, and now more power lessons. The only way to prove that they didn't need help or to be watched over was to, well, prove it. "I'm Sela. What's your name?"

And then Myst popped in their head. I think they're busy.

There went that tactic...

It took Gray a long, long moment before he realized that all the voices were talking to him. He blinked, looking around to see who had spoken. Then eventually, his eyes landed on the being. They had moved, along with the two small figures. Now they were all looking at him. He just blinked again. He really needed to do his work and move on with the rest of his day, and now they had thoroughly proved him wrong about being quiet. Maybe they weren't obnoxious yet, but he didn't want to start an unnecessary conversation. But. . .

His creator had encouraged him to make friends, so maybe he could at least try and start here. If they got annoying, he could just leave.

He stared at the creatures, though his gaze lingered on the gray, cloudy one specifically.

"My name is 130," he replied. Then he put his gaze on the strange being, blinking once. "But you can call me Gray."

Then he put his eyes back onto his book, writing in an answer for his homework.

That was that; he successfully talked to someone. It was among one of the shorter conversations he's had that week, and out of them all, talking to 214 was the shorter with him simply saying, 'You're annoying.' But they were 'siblings', and close enough to friends. So now Gray had another friend without trying.

Making friends was easy.

Sela often forgot that the sound of their voice(s) confused people. It was easier when they were being looked at directly, but calling out a person for their attention tended to have the opposite effect.

"Those are my voices," they said before giving an actual reply to Gray. "I don't mind calling you 130 either... I don't know many people with numbers for names..." Their voice kept drifting off as they repeatedly tripped into their thoughts before stumbling and regaining their footing. "Myst said I was possibly bothering you. Was I?"

They had multiple voices? Most people just had one, so that fact definitely struck Gray as unusual. His creator was going to be interested in 'Sela'. Admittedly, he was as well. But he still had homework, and they were interrupting him. Not to mention, they were extending the conversation longer than he had initially anticipated.
"I don't care what you call me, Sela," Gray replied, writing in a new answer. He put the finished assignment into his folder, pulling out his notebook to help with another paper. Then he finally added, "But you are bothering me. I'm doing my homework."
Then he paused, looking up at the creatures that were in front of Sela. They resembled small clouds of gas, just like Sela's entire, large form did. Perhaps they were pets or their creations. Or maybe one of them was 'Myst'. Gray blinked before placing his attention back on his notebook.
"Who's Myst?" he asked. Knowing more created beings would be nice; they could talk about their creators and he would have more friends to tell their creator about. And well, if they weren't, pets were interesting too.

Over their months on the island, Sela paid more attention to tone of voice and words. Now that Myst pointed out the possibility they were bothering the stranger, Gray's tone was distinctly unfriendly. The stars on Sela's body sparkled less as they realized this. "Ah... Okay. Sorry," they replied timidly.

Their head lowered back towards their homework. It was hard to focus after making such a blunder. Anxious thoughts floated around their head, almost blocking out Gray's question and Myst's reply.

"I'm Myst," said the lightest of the two creatures. Similar to Sela, he also sounded like multiple people talking, but his were more masculine. "That was pretty rude of you. Sela was trying to be friendly."

A new group of voices spoke, all masculine and moving as one. Myst had a different collection of pitches and depth, but they all resembled Sela's; although their voices were a wider combination. Gray's eyes flicked upwards, but he kept his head still facing his notebook. The lighter creature seemed to be speaking, though he wasn't too sure that they were. Either way, when Myst had pointed out Sela's friendliness compared to his attitude, he was lost.
He wasn't too sure what he meant by being 'rude'. He was just being straight forward, but the tone Myst had taken when he claimed him to be rude didn't sit well. He blinked, then straightened up to face Sela again. This time, he set his pencil down. He was getting close to finishing anyway.
And now that he looked at it, Sela was also doing their homework. Weren't they busy enough without a conversation?
"I didn't mean to be rude to Sela, Myst," he stated, looking back at the lighter creature. "I need to finish my homework. But if Sela is being friendly"--friendly had the word 'friend' in it, so maybe Sela wanted to be better friends--"then I can stop and talk to them for a while."

He turned back to Sela. "You can talk to me now. It won't bother me."

Jao and Myst eyed Gray for a while before settling back down on the table. "Ah, well, not everyone's the best at conveying themselves," Myst replied.

That gave Sela the confidence to continue speaking with Gray. They were almost willing to shake their head, say there was no need for conversation, and resume their work. The last thing they wanted was to unintentionally force someone into a conversation. Peer pressure was the word, wasn't it?

"Ah, um... I didn't really thing past introducing myself. I've seen people greet each other when they're near. I thought I should do that with you... I'm also doing my homework. I can do two things at the same time."

Well, of course Sela could do both; it would just take longer if they were talking to each other and not allowing themselves time to do their work. If they both just finished their work, they would have plenty of time to talk afterwards.
"Why don't you just finish your work then?" he asked. "If you need my help, I'll be willing to assist you."
He leaned closer to them, trying to read their assignment. It didn't look like his work, so maybe they had different classes from him? He went back into his seat, setting his hands flat on the table. Maybe. . .Sela was from a different 'grade'?
He was still getting used to that whole idea. 214 would have been a '9th grader' or a 'Freshman'. It was weird in theory because 214 wasn't a man, and she also wasn't 'fresh'. Meanwhile he was a 'Junior'; even though he was nobody's junior.
School was weird. At least at home, 'class' was just him and Valentine reading books, getting lectures, and answering questions. Starlight Academy also made him write and take notes; and while his memory had never been perfect, it felt strange to have to write down everything, even when he already knew it. Regardless, he knew better, and he did it without complaints.
"Are you in 11th grade?" he asked. "I don't recognize your assignment."
