Personality
Authoritarian: Jao has a unique perception of how the world should be run. She wishes for a peaceful life where everything can be easily tracked. At the same time, she inevitably needs chaos so she can feel any kind of worth. How can she put things into order if there's nothing to order? So her even more perfect world is one where everyone is on the same level. There's no upper or lower class. Everyone is at the same level. Everyone suffers equally.
Planner: Seeing the weak-points and cracks in the universe is rather useful for planning. Jao knows when something is unstable, the steps needed to fix it, and how long she has to complete the task. This does not make her perfect. She works best with Myst because he can see the order in the universe and express their ideas better, yet because of how she presents herself, people tend to go to her for leadership.
Unsociable: People aren't simple equations. They are chaotic creatures. Each one has its own thoughts, wants, fears, and many other aspects she has trouble decoding. Like Sela, she does not consider herself a person. Because of that, she finds these flaws she sees in both herself and people unnerving. These issues make Jao avoid people. She'll interact when she needs to, but she doesn't go out of her way to form relationships. Relationships she has tend to be through Sela or Myst.
Biography
There's not much to say on Jao and Myst. Soon after Sela came into existence, the emptiness of space suffocated them with loneliness. In their dream, Jao and Myst were born to provide Sela entertainment, advice, and love. Sela referred to them as their guardians, as they were always there when danger was near.
Since the start, Jao and Myst kept Sela out of trouble... until they were captured. Forced to be carried around in a bottle and escape boredom in their dream, the two could do nothing to free them. Their only option was to lift Sela's spirits in their dream. Sela's release did nothing to return their purpose. Instead of the emptiness of space, they were on a busy island full of strange creatures and rules. Jao and Myst did what they could to help Sela by showing them the best steps to navigate this world, but when they were also learning, their advice didn't always work out.
Time and time again Sela failed to integrate into Manta Carlos' culture. With a dorm parent and minder keeping track of their behavior, the rules of society, and the constant cultural clashing, making sense of what was happening around them became near impossible. It didn't take long for Sela to break. Feeling trapped on the island with the only allies in their head, Jao and Myst were given enough power to leave Sela's body and take on their own. From there, they took on a more direct approach with keeping Sela safe.
Active Abilities
Constellation: Sela is the head of a body they subconsciously split. Jao and Myst are akin to their limbs. It's hard to say they're distinct individuals, but they're not the same either. This comes with some benefits:
- They are mentally connected, allowing them to share memories and telepathically communicate.
- When someone in the Constellation suffers, they all do. Sela's damage directly translates to Jao/Myst. Jao/Myst's suffering does not affect Sela as much, but is still noticeable.
- When Jao/Myst sleep, they return to Sela's dimension. They must leave through Sela to reenter the awake world.
La-La's Land: Jao's body is a portal into an infinite dimension where Sela reigns supreme. People and objects can be transported to and fro this dimension. What she summons from the dimension can be specified with a thought, and objects that did not get permission to enter will pass through her. Jao must be asleep or meditating to access the dimension.
Mathematical Manipulation: Jao can choose to see the mathematical properties of any object she can interact with, overlaying the object in the air. By altering these mathematical equations, she can alter the size and dimensions of an object so long as doing so does not break the formula itself. As an example, Jao can alter the height of an object by changing the number in its volume formula that corresponds to its height, but doing this will also change the object’s proportions. A different example would be to alter the size of the object altogether by adding a parenthetical expression and then a multiplier (such as turning 5x5x5 into [5x5x5]x2).
Ordered Chaos: By focusing on a specific point in space-time that they are observing, Jao/Myst can see all of the potential points of interference that cause disorderly events. This allows Jao/Myst to determine which events need to occur in order to reach what they would consider an optimal outcome. Whether or not they can achieve this outcome is another matter entirely.
Passive Abilities
Unknown Physiology: Jao is a being of hardened cosmic gas, lacking any sort if internal structure. She is not truly solid, and can be pushed through with enough force, or cut by sharp objects. If cut, her essence will leak, causing her size to shrink and allowing her to be trapped, requiring her to sleep to recover.
Being made of gas, Jao is naturally buoyant, floating just off the ground naturally. She does not walk, instead flying everywhere, and are capable of reaching 60 mph. She cannot submerge herself in water without bobbing to the surface, and any more than a light breeze can blow them away.
Jao's body is ever-changing, capable of taking any shape between 1' and 12' in size. These changes are purely cosmetic: no matter how Jao changes herself, she always has the same general look. Her voice is harmonious and sounds as if it is coming from multiple places at once. Her body also matches her mood: when happy, the stars on her body will shine brightly enough to light up a small room.
Jao's senses are significantly difference from that of a human. While she has excellent hearing, on the level of a predator, and night vision, she has no sense of taste, smell, or touch, except when in a dream world.
Order in Chaos: Jao can see the inherent patterns and symmetry even in the most chaotic and random things. This allows Jao to be able to predict the outcome of random events as they are occurring, such as which face a thrown die will land on.Cluster: Reading Jao's species gives no answer or many alien species. . Soul-detecting magic will note that Jao has dozens of souls of varying spaces, acquired from Sela's period of eating people. Locating Jao through her soul(s) will also bring up Sela and Myst (if outside of Sela's dimension) as locations.
Unknown Physiology:
- Can fly up to 60 miles-per-hour.
- Supernatural agility. Hearing's as strong as a wolf's. Night vision.
- Harmonious, feminine voices. Sounds distance and close, as if it's coming from multiple places at once.
- Needs no basic necessities, only sleeping when injured.
- The stars on Jao's body sparkle and glow in proportion to her mood, brightening and dimming based on her happiness. She can shine brightly enough to light up a small radius around her in a dark room.
Weaknesses
Paradox Loop: Logically impossible statements can cause Jao to freeze as her mind attempts to codify and solve the equation of the statement in a satisfactory way. Such statements can leave her entirely immobile and unresponsive until she is called back into Sela's world or Myst initiates physical contact with her to break the loop. This can also lead Jao to become stuck in her loop if she does not have the logical frame of reference to understand a concept (such as the rules, however alien, that dictate behavior and physiology of Eldritch creatures).
Dreamy: 50% more vulnerable to mental magic. Can't lift past 50 pounds. Is so light a moderate wind make it difficult for her to stay in place. Moving on the ground is clumsy and slow.
