Shale couldn't help but quirk a brow at the challenge that had been selected; he was certainly glad that he didn't have to physically compete against his mom, and if he had been expected to he almost certainly would have lost on purpose. It wasn't that she was weak by any stretch, but something like that simply didn't feel fair to him. "I, um...origami? I've never heard of that, honestly."

He shuffled over to the kitchen table and grabbed a little sphere of granite from a basket on the countertop as he went, idly shaping it into an apple after going to sit down. In truth, since it was only just a bit after three, his vision was still rather on the blurry side. It would gradually clear up over the next hour or so, but as it stood it would be rather difficult for him to see what he was doing. "Oh, uhh, mom, things are still pretty hard to make out, if that's something that matters. I'd be okay waiting an hour or so, but if you don't want to that's alright too."

"Oh, I clean forgot about that," Celeste said with a tiny frown. She had forgotten about his temporary sight problems, being blind from noon til after three, maybe because they hadn't really been an issue until now.

"And yes, of course, we can wait a while. Did you want some fresh clay loaf while we wait?" she asked kindly, looking over to Roldan now. "And would you like some fresh pie, maybe a cup of tea or coffee to go with it?"

Shale took a small munch from his granite apple before nodding to his mom, leaning back in his chair and sighing contentedly. "That sounds really nice, yeah. Thanks, mom." He squinted a bit at Roldan, trying to make him out clearer, gently rubbing his neck while he waited for his food. "Uh, so, it's nice having you over and all that. You seem pretty cool compared to a lot of people I've met here, so...yeah."

He cringed just a bit internally at himself as he realized how oddly that the 'compared to other people' part may have come off, and his cheeks lightly tinted gold in response to his own awkwardness. He wasn't sure why he felt such a nagging sense of paranoia with this whole scenario; he knew fully well that it likely wasn't worth paying any mind, but it was irritating regardless.

Celeste just nodded, "Pie and clay loaf," she said as she moved to the kitchen and put the kettle on. Boiling water to make tea, she then cut two slices of pie, and a piece of clay loaf for Shale, taking the opportunity to cut the whole loaf while it was warm and still pliable.

Then she made Roldan a cup of tea, remembering that he hadn't minded the orange tea the first time they had met, and so added an orange wedge to his cup, but on the side, so he could decide for himself if he wanted orange tea or not.

"Here you are," Celeste said with a warm smile as she put the pie on the table for Roldan with a cup of tea for him and herself. Then she handed Shale his clay loaf with crushed jade pieces.

"We can start the challenge after, if you like," she said as she took a seat, "And I'll then show you how to do origami. It's much easier to show you how it's done than to explain it," Celeste said to Shale, the practical teacher side coming out in her now.

"I hope you don't mind waiting for a bit longer?" she said then looking at Roldan, hoping the unexpected delay wasn't inconveniencing him any.

Roldan took a moment to respond to Shale, checking his fingernails a bit. "Yeah, I was excited when Celeste told me you guys were doing a challenge."

Roldan took the plate and the cup gratefully, taking a small bite. He'd never had strawberry rhubarb pie before, but it was good. "Thanks so much for the food, Celeste. It's great."

"Like I said, o was excited to come see the challenge." Roldan checked his watch though. Having to wait an additional hour would put him behind schedule picking Iesha up. "Unfortunately, I have to pick Iesha up before I'll get to see the whole thing. So I think I'll just finish up this delicious food and make my way out."

He gave a small, apologetic smile to Celeste. Internally, he was already coming to a decision, and it wasn't one he was particularly looking forward to. But it was the right one, for sure.

Shale had honestly been famished when he got home, so he made short work of the food his mom had baked for him. He looked up a bit apologetically when Roldan announced that he was leaving; he felt a bit guilty that he couldn't stay because of his own vision problem. "Oh, uhh, sure. It was nice having you over; sorry you couldn't see the challenge. Maybe we can take some pictures or something." He watched Roldan go, frowning slightly and rubbing his neck before grabbing another piece of clay loaf and munching it.

". . .Did you, uhh...alright. I kind of got some odd vibes there, am I just crazy? You said we'd talk about it, so...are you guys, um.." Truthfully, Shale didn't want to say what was on his mind out loud: Dating. At the same time, he didn't want to upset his mom or make her think he was judging her; overall it was a hard situation. "I mean, like. . .I'm not necessarily not okay with it. It's just kind of confusing and scary. Am I just nuts?"

Celeste nodded in understanding when Roldan said that he had to go and the extra hour's wait would cut into his time. Accompanying him to the door when he finished his pie, Celeste said good bye and thanked him for coming, apologizing for the delay and that because of it, he couldn't stay to watch.

She then went back to the kitchen where Shale was at. Hearing his question, Celeste didn't know what to tell him - at least for now. They hadn't even gone out on a date, she thought it might be jumping the gun a bit in her mind.

"How about we talk about it later, okay? Right now let's focus on the challenge." Celeste suggested gently as she explained the challenge to Shale, showing him how to make origami swans.

Shale silently nodded at his mom's suggestion to move on from the topic, though it didn't quite sit right with him. He was worried, needless to say, but wasn't quite sure how worried he really was, or was supposed to be. A part of him wanted to push just a bit on the subject, but he thought better of it and simply sat and talked with her for a bit until his vision recovered. He watched what she did very closely, and did his best to mimic her actions with a fresh sheet of paper.

Shale's grace with such a task was...well, considering the disaster that had been him trying to make crepes, this was entirely expected. He was ripping papers over and over while attempting tiny and precise folds, or crumpling them altogether, his mild frustration showing obviously on his face. "...So, uh...what are we gonna do after I figure out how to actually make them? Like, is it the first to make a certain amount?"

"Slow down, sweetheart,' Celeste said gently as she put a hand out over Shale's to stop him from ripping the swan he had in his hands. "Like this, patiently, go slow, it's not a race," Celete said as she held up her piece of paper and slowly started to fold it, showing him again the proper way to do it.

"How about, we say, we do ten swans each? The regalia can judge maybe who has the best swans, or better swans," Celeste suggested, having actually had the idea that Roldan could have judged their efforts, sort of an impartial observer since the regalia might actually not be as impartial as she hoped they would be. But since he had to leave early, Celeste realised she would have to find new judges.
