Mr. Parsons, Matthew, her regalia, had finally told Celeste his real name. He had also mentioned during their somewhat enlightening conversation that her next challenger was also her son, Shale, and that she might consider a challenge more suited to his skills than to a simple game or one of chance.

Knowing all of this beforehand, and remembering that Roldan had wanted to experience a challenge to see what they were like, Celeste had happily sent him a text message, telling him that if he was free that afternoon, evening, he was more than welcome to come over and watch her and Shale participate in one with their regalia in attendance, and if he wanted to or had time, stay afterwards for dinner or a quick snack.

Roldan was more than happy to go meet Celeste and Shale for this challenge. He did want to see how these things were done. So he'd taken an early day off while making sure that Iesha was taken care of. Showered and got dressed to go over. He knocked on the door, holding a small bouquet of flowers. Nothing too expensive or fancy, just something simple and colorful as a gift to Celeste.

He was eager to watch the challenge though, and to see what he was missing out on.

Shale had just recently gotten off from school, and was hurriedly flying back home so he could get out of his school clothes and head out again to find some challenges for his regalia. The first he had gotten was unsettling to say the least, and in large part he had avoided interacting with them as much as possible. It was simply a matter of their attitude hitting far too close to home for him. The second, however, he found that he got along with just fine, without even considering how cool their power was.

He settled onto his usual landing spot, a patch of smashed grass and flowers at the side of the house, and promptly shifted before making his way to the front. Once there, the best he could do was squint at the scene in front of him. Roldan was here, who he got along with just fine, but the issue was that he was here with a bouquet of flowers, which instantly brought his guard up. "Uhhhhhhhhhhh...heyyyy. So, what's going on, guys...?"

Having just taken a strawberry rhubarb pie out of the oven along with a baked clay loaf mixed with crushed jade pieces - Celeste was becoming quite adept at baking with rocks and minerals - something she had never thought she'd ever be doing - when she heard the front door. Glancing at the clock on the wall, she realised that it was probably Shale or Roldan, either one should be arriving soon.

Taking off her apron, Celeste then went to the front door, opened it and smiled when she saw who it was. There standing before her was Roldan and he was holding a small bouquet of colourful flowers - carnations and tulips to be exact - two of her favourite flowers. Looking at him, she couldn't help blushing a bit at the very thoughtful gesture.

Hearing another voice then, she glanced away from Roldan and realised that Shale was also there, and now was quite aware, by the confused look on his face, that she hadn't exactly told him about Roldan yet.

"Hi sweetheart, how was your day? Roldan is here to watch our challenge'," she explained glancing at Roldan and smiling, "I hope you don't mind. He was curious about the Game of Divine Rights so I asked him if he'd like to watch a match." she said calmly as she ushered both into the house.

Roldan didn't flinch exactly, but his eyes did narrow a bit when he saw the negative-leaning reaction to his presence from Shale. He wasn't glaring or leering, but he smiled wider nonetheless to keep from looking intense or upset.

"Yeah, I can't compete myself. Too busy with work and taking care of Iesha. But I figured I could at least watch a match and see what I'm missing."

Roldan paused and gently took Celeste's hand for a second, pressing a quick kiss to her knuckles. Nota terribly intimate gesture, but one he made to test the waters and see if his gut was right.
"I'm gonna put these in some water so you two can get set up, if that's alright."

Assuming he was allowed to do so, Roldan slipped into the kitchen to get the flowers into water. He was low key listening though.

Shale's eyes scanned between his mom and Roldan, the young gargoyle certainly on edge but doing his best to hold it back. He liked Roldan, and his mom seemed to as well, so he wasn't going to make much of a fuss about it. Well, not right now, at least. "...Yeah, um...that sounds fine, sure..." He gave Roldan a small, clearly strained smile before moving to give Celeste a hug.

"I'm gonna go get changed, I guess...what kind of challenge are we doing? Should it be clothes that are fine to get dirty?" He chewed his lip gently, watching Roldan move into the kitchen and finally exhaling. The way that those two were acting was, as expected, getting to him a fair bit. It was a complex bundle of emotions; Roldan seemed like a genuinely good guy, but still...this was his mom. "So...what's up with the flowers, and the, uhh...kissing your hand and all that?"

Celeste watched in surprise as Roldan took her hand and kissed it softly, making her blush even more. It wasn't an intimate gesture per say, but it certainly was pleasant as well as very unexpected.

Watching briefly and with interest as Roldan made his way into the house, Celeste turned her attention to Shale and hugged him back when he hugged her.

"Just normal clothes, nothing special, the challenge won't be anything where you get dirty," she said as she put an arm around his shoulder as she steered him towards the stairs so he could go upstairs and get changed.

"Roldan and I are friends, who are seeing where things go, that's what's up," Celeste told Shale gently. Understanding that it was probably somewhat of a shock for Shale to see a man giving her flowers and kissing her hand suddenly.

"We will talk more about it later, okay?" she told Shale calmly, gesturing to him to go and get changed and come back down to do the challenge.

"I'll meet you back in the kitchen in five, and I'll explain to you want we are doing then," she said as she let him go get changed, making her way back into the kitchen, Celeste then spotted the flowers in one of the vases she kept handy, and just smiled warmly at Roldan, thanking him for the gesture, and for his patience with Shale.

Shale gave a low hum of acceptance at Celeste's explanation, hugging her once more before jogging upstairs and heading into his room. He sighed gently, releasing just a bit of the tension he'd felt in the entryway talking to his mom. He went about getting changed, tossing his school clothes in the hamper and opting for cargo shorts and a grey undershirt.

He took his time heading back downstairs, pondering to himself if she really meant what he thought. They were seeing where it was going, and they'd talk about it later? To Shale's overactive, somewhat neurotic mind, this seemed rather foreboding. Invasive, toxic thoughts began trickling in; fears that Celeste would forget about him and leave him behind. Heading into the kitchen with another soft sigh of preparation, he sniffed for a moment before giving his mom a smile. "I smell jade. Did I do something worth treating me for?"

Roldan had stayed quiet, though he could hear everything that Shale and Celeste had been saying from where he was in the kitchen. He wasn't going to bring anything up right now. He wanted to see how this played out for now. No sense in making a chicken out of a feather.

"Food smells great," he said when Celeste came into the kitchen with him. He was a bit tense as Shale came back downstairs, clothes changed, but did his best not to show it. He wanted to see how things played out during the challenge, see how Shale acted and carried himself.

"Thank you,"¨Celeste said at the compliment, "I love baking, and I just thought it might be a nice treat for after the challenge," she explained to both Roldan and Shale.

"Speaking of which," here she looked at Shale. "I thought we'd do something that tests your patience, ability to think things through calmly."

"I was thinking we could do..." and here she walked over to a cabinet and pulled out a stack of square reams of paper and set them on the kitchen table, "Origami figures. Swans or cranes, your choice," she said looking at him.
