Academy Club Drive [Open]

Kaiasu was happy to see that the man responded positively to her 'phone-speech' of sorts, as sometimes people took it way the wrong way. She herself, however, totally took 'Nyaralasa' and his beckoning finger the wrong way, as a bit too literal. Playing something so in-character was totally new to her, after all - she was used to people being relatively up-front. So, she seemed to act more hesitant than she did a moment ago as her cheeks flushed a slightly darker color.

Kaiasu looked about the area for a few moments, seeing if anyone saw the guy act relatively sultry towards her. The glances didn't say much of anything, so instead the floating girl just tapped out her response on the phone to show to the cosplayer,
"Do people here always act so um funny? Not in a bad way buut I'm sorta new to geeky things or nerdy things. I only know stuff I saw on TV."

Further embarrassment was clear on the girl's face, but this time due to her own inexperience of a plethora of what was going on around her. Before she could try to communicate much more, however, a text message alert went off on Kaiasu's phone at just the right time. A quick read of the message informed her that she had a short appointment to get to with the school nurse. Seeing this, she looked back to the cosplayer and bowed her head lightly. Remembering that she couldn't speak, she then flusteredly typed out a response to give to Nyaralasa,
"Ack I gotta go, sorry!!"

With that, Kaiasu turned tail and floated away towards a different building on campus.

Nyarlasa was all ready to explain how people "acted funny" around campus in generally, and why the anime club was so eccentric specifically. But the floating girl had other plans and needed to scoot off. It was rather unfortunate because he was at least interested in learning more about the girl, and if she really was a ghost or spirit of some kind. With a fond wave, he bid the girl goodbye and went on with his performance for any others that were interested.

At the table, Jarv was a grand old time dueling with Euna. Her opening moves were impressive, but nothing he had never seen before. As a veteran of several different card games, Jarv had his system and strategy down pat.

"Well, like every club we have weekly meetings where we get together and have fun and discuss events or business. We run tournaments and charity events, and sometimes even plan on little excursions or trips depending on our budget."

Jarv seemed nonplussed by Euna's aggressive moves to empty his field.

"Our next event is a twenty four hour steaming event where we play games to raise money... and by putting those cards back in my hand, you power up THIS guy."

He confidently slapped down a card whose power was proportional to the player's hand.

"And his summoning effect is to draw one more card for me, and I use him to destroy your guys!"

Euna threw her arms up in the air, the cards in her hand in danger of being visible to Jarv. A few of the other students laughed, but Euna wasn't paying attention. "No way! I thought I had you!" She let out an exasperated sigh, and put down her hands to look at her cards again.

Well, that wasn't good. She had used up all her useful cards in that last failed stunt. Her lips tightened, and her brow furrowed. It was as though she was trying to bend the cards back with her mind.

Eventually, she set down three cards, pouting slightly. "I have no idea where I'm going with this," she muttered to herself, a bit too loudly. She scuffed her toe against the floor, waiting expectantly for Jarv's next move.

"Hey... Heeey. It's okay. It's all in good fun, right?"

The follow up to his move did come immediately. Instead, Jarv gave an encouraging, almost sheepish, smile to Euna. For the moment, he placed his hand face down on the table, putting the game on pause for a second.

"And if you join the Anime Club, you can learn a few tips and tricks from me or the other people who play card games. We could definitely help you build a more formidable deck or show you some strategies for your current one."

Jarv looked over his shoulder to the rest of the table, then back to Euna.

"Maybe you'd like to check out what else we got to offer? Like I said, we got more going on than just card games and anime. If you have any interests, we probably got something on hand that will tickle your fancy."

And just as he said that, a few of the club members were setting down a small TV on one of their tables and hooking up a DVD player to it while they started shuffling through a bunch of animes they wanted to show for any interested students.

"Oh, look, more anime!" Euna put her hands behind her back and looked over at the TV. She was teetering back and forth on her heels again, the grin back on her face. "Though... I don't think I watch way too much anime. I've only seen bits and clips of most."

She twirled once, pausing a little to stare at the anime titles that were brought out, and twirled back to face Jarv. She was oblivious to the fact that one of her cards had fluttered to the ground as she suddenly snapped up straight.

"Video games! Have you played any? That's something I'd like to know about!" Though she was facing Jarv, her eyes constantly flicked over to the club members discussing anime titles, as though her thoughts were spiraling off into two different directions.

"Oh, we got TONS of video games. We definitely got it covered in that department."

It seemed their exhibition duel was over for the moment, and Jarv packed up his cards back into his little side holster. Not one to let Euna lose any of her cards, Jarv swiped up the one that fell and packed it together with the remaining ones on the table before handing them all to Euna.

"Here. You almost dropped these. And come check it out over here."

Jarv tried leading Euna over to the main Anime Club table, and to the TV they had set up there. Unfortunately, there were no video games on display. Lugging consoles and more TVs around was more work than they needed. However, they did have all sorts of pictures from the club, some of which featured a veritable menagerie of games and consoles that members brought in to play with.

The TV itself was being turned on as they decided on what to play. They decided to stick with a theme and actually put on an episode of Love of the Craft, the anime the other member was cosplaying a character from. The intro set up the tone of the series, with heavily detailed and shaded Elder Gods preparing to rampage, then switching over to a more recognizably bubbly style for when the Elder Gods took bishie form.

"So do you have any particularly preferences for your video games? Not that it matters because we got access to all of them. Between all the members, we got all the consoles and several PCs ready to go. But what do you like anyway?"

No sooner than Euna began to stammer her thanks, she let herself be dragged to the table.

"Oh-uh-thankaaaaaaaaaghohmygodmorepics."

She immediately broke away from Jarv and bounced towards the pictures, her eyes shining with interest. The TV barely caught her eye, though she glanced at it once or twice. She was still fixated on the pictures of the Anime Club at different events when she responded energetically.

"RPGs! Like The Book of Rain, and all three chapters of Hoshi no Monogatari! Things like those! I just started a new one last week, it's called Call of the Dragons, and it's awesome!"

The Book of Rain and Call of the Dragons were both medieval fantasy role-playing games set in a fictional European setting, both your usual adventure RPG. Hoshi no Monogatari was set in a more urban fantasy world, with themes of aliens and redemption. Euna didn't mention it, but she had bawled her eyes out at the ending of the third book.

"Anyway, you guys seem pretty caught up on games, do you know any really good ones? I might play them after I finish Call!"

"It sounds like the Anime Club has snagged another member."

A voice spoke out from behind Jarv and Euna, one belonging to one of the teachers at the Academy, Jacob Cunningham. He smiled at the club members and Euna as they turned to face him, and then gave a little wave to show that he meant no harm and no one was in trouble.

As one of the teachers tasked with keeping an eye on the club event, Jacob was taking his time between watching for trouble to check on some of the tables and see how they were doing. There was an excitement to be had watching the kids try and lure students into their fold, or other students trying to find a club that suited their particular interests. Granted, some of the clubs he encountered went over his head personally, like the Paranormal Club or the LARPing club.

"So what's caught your eye specifically, miss? The video games or the anime?"

The Anime Club was one of the biggest on campus because, when it was not holding charity events or regular events, it was mostly just about playing games and watching anime. It was basically an excuse for kids to hang out and have fun on campus with other like-minded people.

The hairs on the back of Euna's neck stiffened for a moment when the teacher approached, but she relaxed and smiled back. after Jacob waved. She had recognized him from around the school, but never actually encountered him. Usually, at home, when teachers approached her outside of class, it was usually because she had done something stupid, like punch someone in the middle of the hallway. Even if they were being a bigoted jerk.

"Both! Mostly the video games, though!" She attempted to cover up her initial surprise by looking the teacher straight in the eye and straightening her back. "I don't watch that much anime, but I like most of the really popular ones."

She paused, regarding the teacher for a moment, before tentatively asking. "Uh. Are you the club adviser, Mr... ?"

There was a time, earlier in his career as a teacher, when Jacob would have told Euna to relax and not stand at attention like he was her superior officer. But he had fallen out of that habit. Not because he grew tired or frustrated with the measure, but because students were doing it reflexively and there was little he could do to stop it. He was their teacher and they were his students. It was a natural reaction to his presence. Talking to them and just being friendly got the same point across too, and was much more casual.

"Oh, no. I'm just keeping an eye on the club event, and I'm Mr. Cunningham."

He extended a friendly hand to Euna.

"I haven't kept up with anime either, if you can believe it."

He joked around with Euna. Of course he had not kept up to date with anime or video games. He was a busy teacher and a little too old for that kind of stuff too. Not that he looked down on it. The two mediums were just beyond his purview.

"Why don't you give me the low down on some animes. It'll probably impress the club to see how much knowledge of the stuff you got."
