It was getting just a touch too cold outside to hold a major event outdoors. But that would hardly put a damper on today's major event. Today the school Club Drive would simply be held indoors in the expansive "front" area of the school, which could be described as a foyer. It was a large empty space that was used for any number of things. Normally it was simply the general hang out and lounge-around area for the students. When events came along, they set up tables and chairs and little stages and made room for people to try and fish attention of the students. Today those tables would be populated by the many clubs the school offered, student-run organizations dedicated to any number of things so long as they had enough members and followed the club rules.

The Club Drive was a chance to draw-in new members or just show off what a club had to offer. The tables were colorful and creative, designed to catch the eye and explain what the club was about. The current members were meeting and greeting, or dressed up and demonstrating. There were little games to be played and prizes to be won, sometimes they offered free food or candy because students always flocked to free stuff.

Today, one of the largest clubs in the Academy was joining-in as always. The Anime Club had been a staple of the Academy for the longest time, and it was not tough discerning why. What had started as a club about its namesake had gradually become the general nerd interest club, encompassing anime, video games, card and board games, or whatever nerds were into. It was a nice smattering of student types too, as it attracted just about anyone with a passing nerd fancy.

In a fortunate turn of events, one of the hot new animes of the season featured a character perfectly suited for the bustling, table-filled environment of the Club Drive. One of the club members, a tall lanky young man with black-dyed hair was cosplaying Nyarlasa, a popular character from the anime Love of the Craft. For the uninitiated, it was about the Elder Eldritch Gods finally coming to Earth to feast on humanity's sanity, only to find that the internet had already inured everyone to their eldritch forms. Now the Elder Gods, Cthulun, Nyarlasa, Aza-kun, and Shub-Sama, travel the convention circuit trying to discern what drives people crazy nowadays.

"Come join the cult~ I'll be sure to use my nicest form~"

The Nyarlasa cosplayer was doing his best to stay in character, as the suave Nyarlasa that enticed humans to joining their cult with his promise of assuming a pleasing, tentacle-y alternate form.

((OOC: I totally encourage players to make-up whatever they want for this. Improvise. Go nuts.))

Euna flitted through the tables at the Club Drive, fighting through crowds of students milling about the different clubs’ stands. So far, nothing had been able to keep her still for more than five minutes. The Book Club seemed a bit too stuffy for her, and the Astronomy club just felt... off, for some reason. At the moment, she was squeezing herself between small groups of students, trying to see other stalls over their heads. It hasn’t been working too well. Oh well, at least she got a free notebook with a starry cover and a handful of candy.

After making her way through a particularly rowdy bunch of older students, she stumbled in front of another booth. She took a moment to catch a breath, before letting it all out with a tiny “Oooooooh!” She immediately skipped towards the table and snatched up a flyer, her eyes taking in the words “Anime Club”, “beyond anime, including...” She has watched some anime, and had a few manga titles under her belt, so why not? Besides, she played too many RPGs for her own good, and she enjoyed them way too much.

She looked up and spotted... Wasn’t that Nyarlasa from Love of The Craft? She hadn’t seen the anime itself, but it was popular enough for her to recognize the characters. Plus, she had seen clips, and it was a pretty fun anime. Clutching the flyer in her hand, she approached the black-haired cosplayer, stood on tiptoe, and placed her hands on Nyarlasa’s shoulders, her expression deadpan.

“Nyarlasa.”

She suddenly spoke in a slightly whiny, excited voice, punctuating each of her syllables with a gentle shake of Nyarlasa’s shoulders.

"Tell me. How to join. Your weeab-nerd-anime cult."

"Love of the Craft" had gained a good amount of popularity with the usual anime fans. Taking a page from some of its contemporaries LotC was more or less a slice-of-life anime starring pretty anime boys as they went about their lives on the convention circuit and getting into all sorts of bishounen hijinks. One of the primary criticisms of the show, however, beyond the usual criticisms of mainstream anime, came from the Lovecraft fans of the nerd population. They took issue with the "pretty-fication" of their favorite cosmic horrors.

For example, Nyarlathotep, or Nyarlasa, is generally depicted as tall, dark-skinned man of Egyptian descent. The cosplayer for the Anime Club nails the show's depiction, completely with flowing black hair and an impeccable suit. The cosplayer even managed to style his hair so that it subtly resembled tendrils like in the show. However, in actual Lovecraftian lore, Nyarlathotep is formless and ever-changing, taking many forms so as to both entice and terrify humans. There is a reason it was referred to as "The Crawling Chaos".

Before Euna approached, Nyarlasa was busy playing cool, aloof anime archetype while posing for pictures. He pretended to huff at the fans and shun them as "below him" while also saying that he would pay attention if they signed their souls to him. It was all very fun and in-character until Euna came along and grabbed him.

"Wh-What the? Who are--?"

Nyarlasa was broken out of character while the others laughed and snapped pictures.

"I--You--*ahem*"

It took a second but he got back into character and stood up straight again. He plucked Euna's hands from his shoulders like he was picking a bug off of him, then brushed himself while looking down his nose at her.

"Are you sure, pitiful human? How do I know you are worthy of the Anime Club, and my attention?"

Strange individuals within the Manta Carlos Islands were par for course, so it wouldn't be too crazy of an idea to walk around with, say, purple skin that generally glitters in the light thanks to an array of tiny ice crystals. Even so, though, this two and a half foot tall teenager was dressed up with so much clothing that it was pretty hard to see much beyond her face. That wasn't to say that Kaiasu had layers upon layers of clothing; she just had big clothes that might be a bit too big for her. Regardless, these articles of clothes were a sweatshirt, sweatpants, boots, thin gloves, a scarf and a baseball cap.

It was hardly cold enough to warrant all those clothes, and funny enough Kaiasu was actually the best suited to the cold. The young woman was always apt to wear clothes like this when around larger crowds, as she felt more and more embarrassed with the more exposure she got as, well, a woman. Plus, those bunny-like ears on the top of her head made her feel ridiculous, even if she had to admit that they were pretty cute.

At the very least, the living spirit was able to control her hairstyle pretty well. As such, she wore a short haired style and wore relatively plain colors. It all might seem like a lot of trouble to go through to go to some club drive, but Kaiasu had a very good reason for going. That is, she had never been a part of any club before - or anything much extracurricular, for that matter.

The little teenager was a lot smaller than other students her age, so it was pretty hard for Kaiasu to get any good looks at anything. The lack of a skeletal structure was unfortunate as well; every bump and shove that was thrown at the living spirit deformed her body a certain amount, requiring her to focus to re-shape it. Eventually the frosty girl decided that enough was enough by shifting her body into the air rather than obey gravity normally. That was how Kaiasu moved even when she wasn't levitating; she shifted how gravity treated her.

Now floating above the crowds by a few feet, Kaiasu had a much easier time moving and getting a look about the area. The levitating girl was drawn most towards the most seemingly dramatic of all the booths for the time being, the Anime Club. Rather than move in and get terribly involved quite yet, though, she observed from a few meters away. The attitudes of those in the anime club was something totally new to Kaiasu, who could by a bit literal with how she took things at times.

Was there actually some creepy cult they were involved in now? You never really could tell with this island, Kaiasu figured with a hand on her chin inquisitively. As she levitated, her body did not stay perfectly vertical - it drifted in orientation with no care for gravity, though this sensation didn't seem to affect the floating girl all that much.

Once Euna's hands were picked off of Nyarlasa's shoulders, she finally calmed down enough to get a better look at the cosplayer. Wow, this guy's good at cosplay, Euna thought, for the briefest second, her eyes registering the artfully styled braids and the suit. She was mostly ignoring the people hanging around and taking pictures. As long as not too many of them used their camera's flash, she would be all right.

"Hell yeah, I'm sure!" She stood tall and stared Nyarlasa straight in the eye, grinning like a maniac. "Go on, what do I need to pass the class? Or cult, or whatever. You want some trading cards? I've got cards!" She teetered back and forth on the balls of her feet, positively glowing with excitement. "Do you guys play any video games? Ooh, ooh, how about CardWitches?"

The card game featured (contrary to popular belief) male, female and non-humanoid creatures fated to do war against each other for all eternity. It has been steadily rising in popularity among preteens and children, but some adults and a few teenagers hold serious tournaments over it. Euna used to play the game with grade-schoolers before coming to Manta Carlos.

Euna searched through all her pockets, in her coat, in her skirt, even in the folds of her tartan scarf, until she came up with a battered, red, leather wallet. With a flourish, she took out three cards in purple sleeves, but didn't reveal the card faces.

Even in a place as strange, and occasionally otherwordly, as Manta Carlos, it was prudent to consider that most of the people there still lived mostly normal lives, or attempt to anyway. So when a ghost girl was floating above the heads of students, and was the only thing doing so, a few heads were bound to turn. Most of the heads turning and photo-snapping was being done by freshmen though, as most of the upperclassmen had grown familiar with all the weird things that went on in and around the Academy. For the most part, however, Kaiasu was left to her own devices and not bothered by too much.

As for Euna, she was testing the composure of the Nyarlasa cosplayer. Euna was such a bundle of energy, ready with a reply and words, that Nyaralasa had to take a moment to figure out his reply.

"It would seem you have the necessary... enthusiasm. Perhaps the I and my club will accept you..."

Despite his in-character reply, Nyarlasa was caught off guard by the actual presentation of CardWitch cards. He quirked an eyebrow at the three cards, looking between them and Euna with indecision in his eyes. However, when it seemed that he was at a loss for words, someone else stepped-in.

"Perhaps you should face me then!"

From the table, another student jumped up to meet Euna. Wearing a hat lined with pins and buttons of all sorts of video games and comics, the student reached for a small box on his belt. From the box, he produced a fanned hand of CardWitch cards in their own collector's sleeves.

"I'm the head of the Card Games division, and we could always use more players."

Someone at the table, shouted "NEEERRRD" in a playful and endearing kind of way, eliciting a chuckle from the student himself as he awaited Euna's reply.

Freed from Euna's attention for the moment, Nyaralasa could turn to other students, and spotted Kaiasu right away.

"Ah~ Perhaps you'd make a nice addition to the fold, Floating One. What is your name?"

There was no show of surprise from the floating girl when some people stared up at her and even took a few photos. The attention didn't even bother Kaiasu all that much, but that was mostly because she was so well dressed, it'd be a lot harder to think she was girly with so much on her body. She did scowl in an embarrassed manner though whining mentally to herself that she wished she knew how to properly go invisible like normal spirits did. Kaiasu could go almost invisible and pass through stuff just fine, but she has yet to figure out how to make anything else, such as clothes, phase out with her.

The result would be pretty embarrassing if anyone looked closely enough, considering that she would only be mostly transparent rather than invisible. Ideally Kaiasu wouldn't accidentally phase out either; all things that the spirit hybrid had to worry about now-a-days.

Seeing the middle school girl get her skirt all riled up about trying to prove herself to the Anime Club was surprising not just to the lead cosplayer, but also to Kaiasu herself. Was the Club really that popular that people were that interested in joining, or was there something else going on? Hell, even the energetic kid bouncing about near the lead cosplayer seemed to be unsure of the status of the Club's 'cult' status!

Um... what's a cult anyway? Kaiasu thought to herself, I thought they were supposed to be bad and nuts and stuff. Well, if they just act funny like this then it's hardly the worst that I've ever seen.
Kaiasu concluded, noting how everyone in the group seemed to be having fun above all else. That was around the time when she was almost immediately spotted by the lead cosplayer of the Anime Club booth. By then, the ghost girl had managed to float herself upside-down relative to the ground. Noting that her sweatshirt was starting to fall towards the ground rather than keep her whole torso covered, Kaiasu let out a tiny little "Ehn!" before adjusting her position in the air so that her apparel would stay on as designed. During her move to turn upright, a little blue smartphone almost fell out of the frontal pocket of the living spirit's sweatshirt, though Kaiasu deftly caught the phone in her hand. That was definitively one of the downsides of wearing an oversized sweatshirt.

With pone still in hand, Kaiasu started texting on the phone while she drifted towards the cosplayer. Apparently, the young woman's gloves had index fingers and thumbs that registered on the screen of her smartphone, as it didn't take long for her to type out a message on her phone's screen via an app that would use the whole size of the screen to display text entered, which she used by showing the screen to the lanky teenager. The font was a... questionable choice considering its reputation but Kaiasu had a fondness for it,
Hi, I'm Kaiasu. I don't exactly know whts gooing on, sorry.

Kaiasu was pretty good at writing, she tended to be pretty meticulous with such things. Time spent trying to text to just talk with someone was time spent annoying them, though, so she tried to rush through texting most of the time.

Euna laughed, a tad too dramatically, and took a moment to look past the CardWitches guy, into the crowd. "I'll take you on next!" she shouted, pointing at the person who had called out "NEEEERD." She then strode over to the club member with the cards, pulling out a neon pink box. It was more of a hand-me-down from a friend, but she had added different cards from several booster packs that she had bought herself, until she had exhausted her allowance and made her deck her own.

She set her deck down on the table and stared the duelist straight in the eye, setting the three cards she had taken from her wallet down on top of the. She hadn't even noticed the sparkling, purple girl above everyone's heads, or the few, younger students who had gathered around to watch. Her face bore a cocky grin that ought to be fined, right after the duel had finished, anyway.

"So, should we start with introductions, or start dealing? I'm Euna, by the way!" She leaned forward, still smiling as though she had already won.

Nyarlasa was intrigued by the floating girl's preferred method of communication. When she first pulled out her phone, he had initially thought that she was going out of his way to ignore him like so many other teens with smart phones. He was just about ready to start charming other students when she extended her phone out again, presenting written text and introducing herself as Kaiasu. Reading text as a form a of face-to-face communication was odd, but not entirely out of the realm of possibility considering the Academy, so he smiled and retrained his attention on her.

"Well then, Miss Kaiasu, I would be more than happy to fill you in. If you just float on down here~"

Reaching out with a single hand and finger, Nyarlasa beckoned Kaiasu with a dangerously sultry 'come hither' motion. The cosplayer must have been a veteran of the hobby. His confidence and willingness to play the character among a crowd showed experience in the field.

"I can introduce you my flock: the Anime Club. Tell me do you have any particular interest in anime and all things that are so-called... 'nerdy'?"

At the table, the head of the Card Games division was happily setting out the duel space for himself and Euna. The young man seemed as versed in the field of CardWtiches as the cosplayer did in his own respective hobby. His deck was set to one side, his hand was already dealt, and he dancing his fingers over his cards as he planned his moves.

"I'm Jarv and, like I said, I'm head of the Card Games division of the Anime Club. And the duel has already begun!"

He slapped down his first set of cards in an aggressive stance.

"We here at the Anime Club take pride in all things geeky, nerdy, and pop culture-y. We invite all types who are looking to have fun. Got any questions?"

CardWitches wasn't a terribly difficult game, which was why it was so popular with kids. Regardless of the amount of damage you dealt, if you managed to land five direct attacks on your opponent, you win. You weren't allowed to attack directly if there was a card on your opponent's field, though. The game did involve a lot of backstabbing and sly moves, which gave it a reputation for "destroying friendships." It was engineered to be fast-paced, but most duels ended up lasting longer than 10 minutes.

She looked at her own hand thoughtfully, a finger to her lips, her brows slightly furrowed. This wasn't a bad hand, but unless this guy was bluffing...

"I've got one question," Euna replied, dropping her gaze to look at the cards Jarv had put down on the table. "What do you guys do, aside from nerd out every once in a while?"

She set down three cards in quick succession, and pointed to the rightmost card, from her perspective. "Effect Card. You'll have to place three cards back in your hand!" She leaned back and whispered. "And I'll attack that last one, so your field's empty now!" She did a little dance on her toes, grinning as though she had already won.
