Ezra could not help but stare and observe as Tadashi dug into his meal. It was curious how the bakeneko ate so... casually? Was that the word to describe it? It was so different from their training with Asteria went. Every utensil had its place. Always remember proper etiquette wherever you go. Be prepared to impress anyone you meet. These rules had been ground so heavily into Ezra and it was something they carried everywhere they went.

But they didn't have to do that with Tadashi.

Tadashi was so straightforward and honest when they had asked him. There was no need to try because the bakeneko just... did what he wanted. The freedom was so unique and Ezra could not help but imagine what that would be like. To do what you wanted. To have wants.

"I am glad that your fish is quite delicious. As for the dish, I am... particular in my dietary, as you know. I do wish to try new things but it requires a proper balance of branching out and not straying too far. I would rather have someone with me in order to explain what I should expect from a new food item rather than just ordering it blindly with no idea on the outcome of taste and texture. I tend to struggle with facing the unknown, even after my return to the island." They give a small shake of the head before continuing to eat.

"Apologies, I did not mean to make my answer sound so ominous and dramatic."

Oh. Ezra did seem to need a fair bit of guidance. Tadashi wasn't super sure he was the most appropriate choice, given his so-so relationship with doing 'people things' sometimes, but... that was what friends were for right? And though everything was a mixed up whirlwind of confusion and difficult emotions he did want to help Ezra.

"It sounds like you just get worried you won't like sometime if you try a new option. You know, I've been thinking that's kind of part of being a person. Finding out the hard way if you like or don't like some things," Tadashi mused out loud for both of their benefit.

As he continued steadily eating. Keeping his face clean and not making a mess, and mostly speaking when his mouth wasn't full of course, but not being especially high class about his table manners. "But I wouldn't ever recommend something to you I thought you wouldn't like. That would just be mean."

They continued to chat for a while as they ate but it wasn't too long before their plates were emptied and their bellies full. "You know... this has gone pretty uh, well actually."

Ezra looked up at Tadashi, brow furrowing slightly before relaxing back into their usual neutral facial position. Their friend had thought the day had gone well. The friendship that was almost lost was coming back. Things were going to be okay, hopefully. Reaching for their napkin, they dabbed their mouth once last time to make sure they had a clean and proper face. Appearances were important, after all.

"I am glad to hear that you think today is going well. I will admit that I had a peculiar feeling sitting in my abdominal region for this meeting to arrive. I believe that it was nervousness, but it has subsided considerably throughout our meal and our conversation." They reached into their hoodie pocket to pull out their wallet and place a shiny black credit card on the table for the waitress to take back and pay for the meal.

"Once the meal is paid for, Tadashi, would you like to go for a walk around the park still? I would like to keep our time together going for a bit longer, if that is alright with you. I am having fun." Ezra gave a faint smile, looking across the table. The Sho'lai had enjoyed the time out with the white-haired teen. It was nice.

Tadashi covered his mouth with a hand and started to giggle just a little bit before regaining his composure. "Ezra... that's nerves. Some people call it butterflies in the stomach.. but I don't get it- that sounds kind of terrifying."

He wanted to object to Ezra paying, but... could he do that and not make things awkward? He wasn't super afraid that Ezra would be offended, but maybe in some small way they thought htis was- oh. Nevermind, the waitress had come back to pick up the card before he could reason through what to do.

"I... I think we can do that. I like to walk around with all the plants there." He matched Ezra's faint smile with one of his own. The lack of any major emotional disasters and a good hearty helping of tasty fish emboldening him to a certain extent. "You are ok with walking? I still don't know... whether you have difficulty like you did before or not?"

"I will be alright walking around the park. My journey off-island, despite the less than desirable effects that occurred and the changes I went through, was not entirely without some positive benefits. I no longer need sleep nor am I restricted to a life of isolation behind an arcane puppet. I am free to wander and learn and enjoy time with people as much as I desire." The waitress returned with the card, seeming much more cheerful and polite than she had previously with her odd uncomfortable glance from before. Seeing the black credit card might have cheered her considerably or perhaps she was simply having a better day.

Ezra gave a polite nod to the waitress as she left and they quickly scribbled a signature as well as a hefty tip on the line. It was a good day and they didn't often go out. It was okay to splurge a little. Once the pen had been set back down and their card placed back into their wallet, the spirit set their napkin on the table proper and began to rise from their seat. They extended their bandaged hand to the other boy with that faint smile still on their face.

"I'm ready to go whenever you are, Tadashi." They stated, eyes unblinking at the bakeneko. If Tadashi took their hand, Ezra would take extra care to weave their fingers together to hold onto. They had read it was a comfortable way to hold hands and this would be the perfect opportunity to try it.

Tadashi nodded along, though he winced noticeably at the mention of less than desirable effects and changes, and also at the mention of the puppet strangely enough. Tadashi had thought they were cute even if it was a little weird and he much preferred the actual person's presence.

He stacked his dishes for the waitress and took another gulp of water before he too rose from his seat. In a quick, almost anxious motion as he forced himself not to be cowardly and just bail entirely. Though he paused for a few seconds as he looked at Ezra's hand then down at his own. "I... I think i'm ready. Let's not go too fast though," he said very quietly as his gloved hand came up to meet Ezra's. The slight pink tinge returned to his cheeks despite himself. The number of people who'd held his hand-gloves or not- was quite small.

Before he could have second thoughts Tadashi led Ezra out of the little cafe towards the park.
