A "Magical" Dinner Party

Ganymede couldn't help feeling like he'd inserted his foot directly into his mouth. Which was... odd? It was a well-documented fact that he was Monday's foster child. Monday was introduced to Gany as his new foster parent.

But he would keep his mouth shut about that. He knew a horrible magical enigma when he saw one. There had to be a good reason Garry shouldn't call Gany Monday's son. It had to be magical, and it was probably terrible.

Wednesday was very supportive, though. "Okay," he said. "Thank you, Wednesday." He was a little bit less perky now, and he felt embarrassed.

The best thing to do when something like this came up was to change the subject. He knew that from prior experience. So he took notice of the artifact around Saturday's neck. He could tell it was magical, but not much else.

"I like your... necklace? Collar?" He said to Saturday, not sure of the word he would use for it. After he had a chance to explain, Ganymede would continue: "I actually used to wear a collar all the time before I came here. It still feels a little weird not to have one, actually" Of course he could do without that specific collar, now that he knew what it was for, but he still liked the feeling, and the aesthetic. It felt familiar. "So I'm thinking of getting one with my allowance."

Monday actually felt like the Endless Sea was coming up from the ground and claiming him when he heard Garry squawk his assertion that Gany was Monday's son. Words often held such great power that his breath involuntarily caught in his throat and his heart almost stopped. He had not expected this to happen. He hadn't wanted to bring Ganymede into the circle right away, he had wanted him to become familiar, feel safe and know that this was his home before Monday told him about the curses.

"Actually, Ganymede," Monday cleared his throat as he nodded at Saturday, giving him a grateful look, and thankful for his understanding. Thankful to all his coven actually for keeping calm, trying to defuse the situation and for not muzzling his bird and hanging him upside down somewhere.

"We need to tell you something. Well, actually, I should have told you about this before tonight, but I had honestly hoped it would not have to be so soon," he admitted somewhat anxiously as he ran a hand through his hair.

Doing a quick gaze around the room, looking with uncertainty at his coven briefly, Monday plunged forward. Besides, the truth was already sort of hanging in the air making everyone uncomfortable and, he reasoned, maybe wrongly, the best way forward was with the truth.

"Garry go to Candle please," he told the bird as he gently ushered him to his fiery assistant.

Then Monday got to his feet and went to a cabinet where he unlocked a drawer and took out a leather bound notebook which he then handed to Gany. The book detailed each and every curse that each member of the coven possessed, even the two members that weren't present at the moment.

After handing Ganymede the notebook which he encouraged him to look at, Monday explained the coven's history, how each member was not only doubly cursed, but had a third curse due to a ritual that had not gone right, and lastly, why Monday had not wanted to claim him publically as his son.

"And that is it in a not so pretty nutshell," Monday said with a tired sigh as he finished, looking then at Ganymede rather apologetically, "I had hoped to tell you later down the road, but fate obviously had different ideas. Also, the coven is here tonight, and well, it's probably better that it happened this way... " he admitted as he glanced solemnly at the other witches and nodded at each one, giving them basically a heads up to add whatever they felt pertinent or answer any questions Ganymede might have.

Ganymede seemed to be able to sense the mood shift in the room, which was impressive to Saturday's opinion from a child his age. But the direction Ganymede attempted to change the subject to really did not make him comfortable, and Saturday was already tense enough. Well, it wasn't strange for Ganymede to take notice of his collar, it was noticeable to say the least. The other witches in the coven knew what it did, they knew that it kept Saturday's time stopped and him alive. But they didn't know in detail what he had done to make it, and Saturday was always terrified that they would somehow find out that he had...
Saturday almost felt sick when some memories rushed through his mind, but he pushed them back and himself in this moment. He looked at Ganymede, trying not to take too long to think up a good answer and look like an idiot. But he didn't even have to, since Monday began talking. Saturday turned to look at the man, and he certainly didn't want to be in his position right now. But nevertheless Saturday answered the look Monday gave the room with an unwavering gaze, because Saturday was good at being strong for other people. Even if he wasn't good at being strong for himself.

Saturday merely sat quietly, as Monday explained everything. He remembered when his father had given him a similar talk as a small child, and Saturday still remembered every word he had said. He hadn't had a choice. But Ganymede still had a choice. He could avoid all of this, turn his back to Monday and the coven and save himself from a possible lifetime of grief. Saturday didn't know what he would've chosen, if he had had the same choice long time ago. But Ganymede seemed intelligent, and whatever option he would choose would probably be well thought out.
As Monday finished Saturday returned his solemn look, and nodded back. If Ganymede had questions Saturday would answer them, telling him as much of the truth as he needed. But otherwise Saturday would stay quiet, he wasn't good at offering words of consolation. But he did look at Ganymede with sympathetic eyes, waiting for the boy's reaction to all of this.

Candle stands by as Monday introduced them with only a faint nod as acknowledgment. After Saturday was introduced to everyone, Candle returned to their seat at the table. There was all sorts of chatter going on from Saturday giving out their gifts to Tuesday suggesting some candles to Monday. Though she said nothing, Candle did find the idea of having some candles around to be a nice thought. They were never really a fan of these light bulbs since they become commonplace.

Garry eventually left their shoulder to join their master and size up the pinkish bird that Saturday had brought with. As the conversation around them became awkward over the conversation of Ganymede's relationship with Monday, Candle still maintained her blank gaze from the seat directly across from them. It was odd that Monday seemed so bothered by Ganymede foster status to him was but then he also dislike it when they referred to Monday as their master. Wizards and witches tend to be peculiar folk and Monday must have had their reasons... reasons that they should perhaps not bother questioning.

As Garry was dismissed by Monday and instructed to come to them, Candle raised out an arm for Garry to perch on while still maintaining that unblinking stare from across the table. Once Garry has landed they looked to the blue parrot.

"Greetings Garry, would you like another peanut?" offered Candle as they pick out peanut and offers it to Garry with their free hand.

Having already been gently scolded by Tuesday, Garry let out a small, and rather indignant squawk when Monday shooed him off.

Flying over to Candle, the parrot landed on her outstretched hand and peered at Monday for a moment very annoyed, and put out. So much so that he huffed and ruffled his feathers as he sulkily moved sideways up Candle's arm, sending tiny smoke rings through the top of his beak as he did so.

"Candle nice," Garry said, still sulking as he accepted a peanut from her with his foot.

"Monday mean," he added in an almost petulant tone as he held on to his peanut.

Tuesday swallowed hard as she heard about the collars. One could only imagine what kinds of things a collar like that had been used for. She was familiar with collars themselves... but that was a little bit different when it was a consenting adult. But Gany seemed to be saying they liked the feel of something like them and she got that too. Tuesday set down her glass and hooked a finger in under her black choker necklace. The one with a small metal triangle charm on it. "I kind of like having something similar around my neck. Maybe Monday can help you find something fun to wear." It was an attempt at lightening the mood. And directing the thoughts away from Gany's, and Saturday's, past.

The notebook though gave Tuesday the chills. It was something she didnt exactly know Monday had been keeping so easily accessible. "Monday, I'm all for you letting him be prepared to live with you. But did you just hand him a book with all our weaknesses? I really hope you dont have our real names in there." She was worried. Maybe even a little more than she was when Gany was being proclaimed as Monday's son.

Tuesday had only just met this child, so she had little time to learn if he should be trusted. Not to mention her curse meant that the feline-oriented child was very likely unable to see her as anything other than an enemy. One which he now knew how to hurt. Or even outright control, if the names were there.

She finished by taking a rather large swig from her wine. Not caring that it wasnt the proper way to drink a nice wine.

Monday looked at Tuesday, and felt her concern, saw it in her eyes. "No, of course not. Our names are ours alone. I'd never allow anyone to have access to them," he assured her.

"I have used our weekday abbreviations in Latin, and the names of the curses themselves with a very brief explanation of what they are, but not how they necessarily work."

"Most of what's written is the history of the coven and generally how my family and the curses came to be, and, well, what happened to my family in the end.." he added with a sad smile.

"It's a diary of sorts, I guess..." he admitted. "A record of myself if something should ever happen to me unexpectedly."

Tuesday brought up good points, ones that Saturday had not thought to ask because Ganymede was just a child. But he also understood Tuesday's worry and distrust, and Saturday felt slighly relieved as well when Monday assured them that their names were not in that notebook. And Saturday did not mind Ganymede knowing about his curse, the boy could not use it against him, he didn't know what Saturday's magic was and Saturday was confident that he was stronger than Ganymede. He didn't take any sense of superiority in it, but he didn't find Ganymede threatening in any way.

The history of Monday's coven. Saturday knew of it, they all did, and he yet again sympathized with the man. Saturday, as far as he knew, was one of the last 4 remaining Reid family members. He kept in touch with the other members, and they hadn't heard from one of them in years. They all presumed Death From Above had claimed him.
Saturday looked at the notebook, Monday's idea wasn't bad to his opinion. Writing down the history of the coven, and the families part of it, would help preserve their legacy and teach the future generations.
Saturday decided to take it up with the others when he had the chance.

To that note, Toto was active again and with a smug face he watched how Garry was shooed over to Candle. Toto bobbed his head up and down few times, whistling with a mocking tone.
"Who's sulky now?"
He said with an amused tone and let out a caw that sounded like laughter.

Ganymede stayed where he sat for a little while, saying nothing. Thinking. Taking it all in.

It was a lot, but so were many of the things he had dealt with before. He had learned a trick, over the years. For now he would keep his composure and try to keep things positive, and he could work through his feelings about all this later.

He eventually spoke. "Well, it's a good thing a foster child isn't actually part of the family. Not formally. You're a dear friend who I live with but not my family." He'd take a glance around at the others. "Right?"

There was an expectant tone to his voice. He needed them to agree. Gany knew this about magic theory. Words had power. Consensus had power too. If they agreed, that should help keep the curse away. He hoped.

So much for a relaxing evening.

The mood had gotten far more serious, and Wednesday's discomfort was clear in both her shrinking posture and distressed frown. It was only made worse with Monday's notebook, she was just as surprised and concerned about that as Tuesday was. She let the older witch voice those concerns for her, while she remained quiet. The talk had brought to mind her own family, the few of her siblings who remained, the very reason that she had come here in the first place. She rubbed her arm as she thought about it.

"...Right, of course." Wednesday awkwardly said, quiet. "You have nothing to worry about."

At least Monday was getting this out of the way sooner rather than later, it would have been irresponsible to keep Ganymede in the dark, she figured.
