Lila hurried into the school courtyard, a medium-small-sized boxed gift wrapped perfectly in deep blue paper and decorated with a shiny silver bow. Like usual, she had been caught up in conversation and had to rush to get into the designated Secret Santa meeting place for students. Looking around, though, she realised everyone already there was paired off. She was the first one from her match-up.
When she had seen that Adelyn was going to be her pair for the activity, someone she didn't know, she had to find out more. Though she wouldn't admit it, she asked around a little more than she needed to. At first she only wanted the basics; who she was, what she was and what she wanted as a gift. With plenty of talking, some gossiping and a little manipulation, Lila quickly came up with an idea that would work, as far as she knew.
It became very obvious very quickly that Adelyn was interested in the performing arts. Interesting, she thought. But it was lucky that she had a passion like that for the Secret Santa. That way, it was easy to know what to get. Not caring to look too much into who the girl herself was, she had only glanced at a picture of her. She thought she had seen her in the schoolyard before, but was quite sure the two had never interacted. She hoped the information she had gathered on the girl was correct, or she may have no use for the gift. Oh well, she thought, it could be sold for quite a good price. After all, if she couldn't get someone a meaningful gift, she would get them a fancy one.
So Lila sat on a courtyard bench and waited for her pair, the box resting beside her as she smoothed out her glittery navy skirt and silvery-white knitted sweater. She had lacked inspiration when getting dressed that morning so she went to the store to 'borrow' a matching outfit to the wrapping paper, including silver flats and a bracelet. The wing necklace she had received from her boyfriend hung around her neck and remained the only part of her outfit that wasn't stolen. She couldn't wait to see what she got. Not that she couldn't easily get a gift elsewhere, of course. She just wanted to see what someone else could come up with.
