Preening his feathers carefully, Garry nattered and cooed happily to himself as the warm afternoon sunlight flooded through the huge shop windows of the now quiet antique shop.
It had been so long since the Hyacinth Macaw had seen the sun for longer than fifteen minutes that as soon as Monday had opened the shop, he had flown happily to his perch and had not moved from the general sunlight areas in the store.
In fact, so happy at this reappearance of sunlight, Garry had hopped from sunbeam to sunbeam following the rays of warmth all around the shop. And now, the sun was coming in through the shop windows at an angle, and Garry had flown onto the back top of an early French 19th-century red velveteen and black leather settee, settling down contently as he cleaned his feathers, taking little notice of the world beyond the window pane just a few feet away.
