Dreizel sighed. He had thought that he could get away from the noise when he went to the park but it seems he had been wrong. There were children and dogs and women and people in general chatting about everything so loudly. And the books always said that the park was where you went if you wanted to relax. "This is not relaxing at all," Dreizel muttered as he slung his bag over his shoulder and dusted the dirt from his pants.

He made his way back to the road that led downtown and decided that a walk would be better than trying for a nap in the park. Though it is true that the woods would have been a much nicer place to get to, Dreizel did not want to end up getting lost in there again without letting Samael know he was going to enter it. In fact, he considered himself lucky to have been found by the lynx shapeshifter at all when he first wandered the woods.

Dreizel whistled as he went, hands in his pockets and gait a fair pace. He entertained himself by looking at the different shops lining the sidewalk. He'd let his feet take him around curbs and across zebra walks without really thinking about where he was heading. He was only outside to waste his time anyway.

The ex-angel had only been on the island a couple of weeks. He had already caught up with most of the lore in here, especially those regarding the interesting people. By that, he meant those with the strange powers. Dreizel was automatically inclined towards those with the abilities to fly--be it through shapeshifting, elemental control or even just being able to jump really, really high. He had missed flying, in all honesty, and he yearned to be able to slice the skies again with his cutthroat maneuvers and tricks. Sadly however, Dreizel hadn't been able to meet anyone who could grant him that chance again. As of yet anyway.

Dreizel's lips morphed into a line and he started humming instead as he went about his way, wondering about his funds and how he might be able to gain some again without having to work a job.

Enelen had been on the island much less than a few weeks. No, he was closer to a few days. They'd been very busy days, where he'd been forced to adapt to the world he'd found himself on. Where he'd been forced to realize that magic was not just uncommon on this world, it was downright rare. He'd gone from average to an oddity, someone who could do things others never could. The very idea of it - the idea that most of the people around him would never be able to practice magic - was mind boggling to him. You might as well have said that the humans around him didn't need to breath.

It was a lot to take in. The school was different. The fact that it wasn't really reasonable to spend his entire life educating himself was different. The lack of magic was really different. And for the first time in his life, he found himself surrounded by people very different from himself. People that could change into things, people that weren't from the earth, people that lived in the deep sea. He'd taken for granted the idea that the people in the world he jumped to would be like him. He'd always seen it as a binary set of options. Either there were people (like him) there, or there would be nothing.

He'd never really considered the middle ground, where there were people who weren't like him.

He'd explored the school, made a place for himself in his apartment, and then fetched a piece of wood that would become a backup staff for him in the event that his current one broke. But he'd barely touched the rest of the island, and it was with more than a bit of hesitation that he forced himself out of the school and down towards the city itself. It wasn't that he wasn't curious (because he absolutely was), but instead that it was so alien he feared being overwhelmed by it.

He'd never really visited cities, even back on his own world. There had never been a need. He'd lived a life apart, nestled away in his school. And there had been nothing like this there. There had been no cars rushing through the city (what a surprise those had been). Everything was different, but the noise of it was the most different of all.

It was a bit too much for him. Down in the city, it was all just very overwhelming, and after less than ten minutes, he'd pulled himself over against the wall of a building, clutching his staff until his fingers were white. His head hung, eyes fixed firmly on the ground.

Even the ground was wrong.

There was a doughnut and bagel store that Dreizel frequented. He often bought a boxful of the sweets however today, as he had only pocketed less cash than usual, Dreizel could only get half a dozen of his beloved treats. Finding not much more reason to loiter, Dreizel turned into an alley that cut through the long way.

He had just about turned into the street again from the alley when he saw a guy leaning against the wall of the building of a law firm in the distance. Dreizel's gait slowed as he curiously stared. The man seemed winded. He held onto a stick, which was strange as he didn't seem old enough to require one nor did he look like he had any disability in his stance.

'Maybe he's got a weird power,' Dreizel theorized. He was just about close enough to share the man's emotions now. He knew he had to be cautious. His experiences in New York had changed a lot in him--giving him human instincts that cancelled out older ones originally meant to be for his species. For example, openly approaching and trusting strangers, not to mention even just speaking to them. Some liked to feign weakness before they robbed whoever was kind enough to offer help. Others just wanted to steal and lie to their victims.

However the caution Dreizel held dissipated when he felt the man's... pain? No, it was not entirely pain. It was more of being overpowered by everything. It was a feeling Dreizel had felt upon first waking into this world. Its presence in this stranger made it clear that he was not from here either.

The blond watched the man closely as he bit down the urge to rub his head from the feeling that the man was emitting. He decided he wanted to help a fellow outsider. The man didn't seem like he was feigning it. After all, nobody could feign an emotion. Not that he knew of. Dreizel's kind nature had him approaching the man slowly. "Hello," he greeted. "Are you all right?"

Overwhelmed would have been the word Enelen would have chosen to describe his state of mind if someone had asked. Everything was overwhelming. People often got overwhelmed on this world when faced with magic and the supernatural for the first time, but for him it was often the more mundane that did him in. Things people of this world brushed off as entirely normal were alien to him. No one would blink at a calculator, but it seemed so bizarre. The idea of electricity itself was strange. His world had only the most rudimentary of technology, and anything more complex than a windmill was alarming for him.

His eyes rose slowly when someone spoke, unsure of if they were speaking to him, or perhaps speaking to someone else. But no, the man - boy? - was alone, and very clearly facing him. He looked to be about his age, and he looked very... white. Pale skin, pale hair, pale clothes... if not for his eyes Enelen would have had to wonder if he'd been dropped in a vat of white paint.

He seemed to be about Enelen's age, and simply asking out of concern. He hadn't realized he'd been drawing any attention, but then he'd been paying very little attention to his surroundings.

He forced a smile, trying to focus. Focusing on a person - a normal person who could have very well existed in his own world - was a lot easier than trying to think about the environment around him.

"I'm fine. Just a bit... ah, overwhelmed." He'd given up entirely on pretending he was from the island. It had lasted all of thirty minutes after he'd arrived, if that. He simply wasn't very good at that kind of deception.

Dreizel nodded. That was exactly what he was getting from this man. He chewed his lip thoughtfully. He wanted to help, but he didn't know what to do. He didn't know what he could do to make everything less overwhelming. For one thing, he didn't know what was overwhelming the stranger, he could only feel.

"Um... Would you like to go somewhere not so overwhelming?" he offered. "I know a park not too far from here..." he trailed off. No, he had left the park because it was noisy and not relaxing at all. Chatter, barking, laughter--and not the kind that was nice to listen to--shouting from children, crying from some of the younger ones. It probably would give the man the same annoyance if he brought him there. And he could be even more overwhelmed, which would be counter-effective to Dreizel's intention.

"I don't know what's overwhelming you, but I know the feeling," Dreizel added uncertainly. He scratched the back of his neck. "I guess you can say I've been through it and... I can literally feel what you are feeling now. I'm an empath, sort of. And, well, I also felt exactly that when I first got into this world."

Dreizel wasn't usually one to tell somebody that much about himself, but he figured that if the man were to stop being overwhelmed, the Dreizel should distract him with something that might interest him. Not that his story in particular should be interesting, given the fact that they are in an island where a lot of other interesting people live, but he figured it should be enough.

@Thoth Is that all right?

A park? Enelen had no particular attachment to parks (he'd never really gone back at home), but a park would at least have less... stuff. Less cars. Less ads. Less strange things. Trees were trees, and aside from some slight differences, most of the flora and fauna of this world was the same as that of his own. At the very least it would be less different from the city, and there was a small bubble of relief in his emotions at the thought of it.

He wasn't expecting someone to understand - but the man did. His explanation was clear enough (although it had not occurred to Enelen that of all the strange powers and people on the island, some would be true empaths. The very idea of an empath had been pursued once upon a time, before being abandoned. Being able to feel the emotions of those around you was as much a curse as it was a blessing, and it had been too finicky to actually replicate.

"Oh." He said, feeling a whole lot like a balloon whose air had been let out. At that moment, all he really wanted was to be back home - either on his world or at least in his dorm room - but there was a niggling bit of curiosity that was starting to build up.

He tended to be curious about most people he met.

"I imagine that... well, a lot of people get overwhelmed. The island is very strange." He'd come to realize that. Even for people from this specific universe it was weird.

"Isn't it?" Dreizel agreed with a friendly smile. "Well, actually, I think the park's sorta crowded today. It's definitely not a place to not get overwhelmed. I mean, relaxed." He bit his lip and shrugged. Where else did he go to relax? The woods, however he wasn't sure if the man would like to go there in that getup--one not meant for hiking those woods. Not to mention, he didn't know his way around the place. There was no way he was going to get somebody else lost in there with him.

"Well, um, we could go somewhere less noisy, if you'd like. And not as crowded," Dreizel asked. He looked around. Not that the streets were packed, but there were enough people around to affect them. Dreizel theorized that if he were a few months younger and inexperienced, even this few people would have overwhelmed him, drilled piercing pain into his head.

Dreizel can sense a bit of the overwhelming feeling disappearing now. The bulk of it was still present however. He briefly thought about cracking a joke or playing one of those light-hearted, ice-breaker pranks on the dude, but thought better of it. What better way to piss someone off than that? Of course, other than playing cruel pranks on somebody who's just woken up, is the angry kind of drunk, is having a bad day or is generally an angry and resentful kind of person.

"I'm guessing you're not from here?" Dreizel tried. Something to distract him from whatever it is that was overwhelming him. "I mean, generally. You know, not from this world kind of not from here.... Are you?"

He just wanted to be back home. Anywhere that he'd ever considered home. Even the dorm, which was not quite home just yet. Some place quiet and normal, where magic wasn't odd or unusual in any way. At first it had been interesting when people got excited over him having magic, and the it had just become tired. You could only have so many people asking you the same three questions about magic so many times before you were ready to write down a little note card to hand out when asked.

"No. I'm from.." He trailed off for a moment, always struggling to figure out how to describe it. When he said 'another world' people tended to think of a different planet. When he said 'another dimension', people seemed to think he was some kind of fifth dimensional being. "From an alternate universe." He finally settled on. That was probably the clearest way to say it. From an earth that was not this one, in a whole other dimension, parallel to their own. "We didn't really have big cities like this." There had never been so much hustle and bustle, never been so many machines. There was nothing even slightly like cars. Those had been a struggle to get used to.

He had no way of knowing, nor any reason to really expect that the man he was talking to was in the same situation - or at least a similar one. He simply assumed he was a native to the island who had gotten used to people like him. People from other countries, other worlds. People who had never experienced anything like the Manta Carlos Islands (although often it was the weird people that threw people off).

"No. I'm from... from an alternate universe."

Dreizel's mouth hung open for a second before he grinned and almost jumped in excitement. Almost. The idea of a new world, not like the rest of the world outside the Academy hopefully, was exciting. His own world had been quite small compared to this one. Or was that only because he was able to see most of his world from a bird's eye view and he hadn't been able to see this one from that same perspective?

From the trip from New York to here, he could gather that it's seas were definitely larger in comparison to the seas in Equilibrium. He had learned that there are seven continents and even more water than those continents. He'd seen a model of a globe once in the library when he decided to roam around the grounds. He couldn't even see the island on that globe. Not to mention, New York had been only a dot. So definitely, Equilibrium was much smaller than earth. It was a shame that Dreizel wouldn't be able to see the Seven Wonders himself. He's read about those and learned about many more things. And now, there's another world to learn about. Another adventure to experience even if just in daydreams and dreams.

"No way..." he gasped, the zeal evident in his voice. "Me too!" He paused and reconsidered about being too excited. This man was still evidently overwhelmed. Dreizel had to take a step back in case his zing caused any more overwhelming. He'd actually like to be helpful for once.

"I mean, um... then, is it the city that's, uh, overwhelming you?" He asked as he scratched the back of his head apologetically. "If it is, I know a place a little far from here. It's at the edge of town. Quiet, not so crowded, not many cars..."

Geography was not terribly interesting to Enelen. Really, the world he'd landed on was essentially the same physically as the world he'd come from. There were a few differences (the forests were larger on his home world, and some rivers were in different places), but for the most part it was the same. The mountains were in the same places, and so were the continents and oceans. It was the man made features that were different. The cities were in different places, the divisions of land all wrong. Geography had never been much of an interest to him, and while he had some mild curiosity about the world he'd landed in, for the most part he'd given it little attention.

He was not surprised by the strong reaction to the fact that he was from another reality, although he was surprised it was so positive. Often it was curiosity and little more. No one had a real idea of what his world was like, so it was hard to say how they should react. His world could have been vastly superior to this one, or it could have been much worse. The truth was that it was neither better nor worse, but instead different.

When he heard 'me too', it was his turn to look surprised. He'd never met anyone from another reality - he wasn't sure if they existed. He'd met people from other realms of this reality, but that was not quite the same thing. He wasn't even that bothered by being overwhelmed anymore - no, instead he was now good and curious.

"Really?" Although it wasn't clear if he was reacting to the fact that they were alike, or the place to go. "We can go, and then you can tell me about the world you came from." Not his world - there was no diamond pin to mark him as one.
