A genuine smile donned upon Kueria’s lips as her cheeks tinted ever so slghtly in rosy shades. Though she knew no words could do her sentiments justice, she mumbled a quick thanks to the kind man.

You can get the smaller sticks, the dried kindling

Instantly jumping to her feet, she gave an entusiastic nod before clinging a little tighter to his coat as she ran off to gather leaves and small twigs.

Conuring small gusts of wind, no stronger than a gentle spring zephyr, the girl watched in glee as fallen leaves danced to the rhythm of her magic. Yet agin, deja vu struck as she indulged in the sensation of being a pupeteer controlling her little marionettes. Brows furrowing in confusion, the winds slowly died down as her mind begun to clog with foreign memories, almost as though she was watching a familliar film on repeat. For a few beats, silence settled as she stood stiller than a frozen stream. Remainig rooted to the ground, Kueria let out a barely audiable whisper.

“I was.... a leader...?”

Not too long later, she snapped out of her daze. By then, the twigs and dry leaves had settled in a neat pile by the mat. Gathering the items, she scooted over to where Eein was and carefully observed as he built the wooden structure. Once the fire had been started, she let out an excited exclaimation before stating “Wow, Eein’s abilities are so cool! Kueria is super amazed at how talented he is! Is Eein going to teach Kueria how to cook now?”

He'd chuckle. "Yes I am," so he'd show her. Show her how to prep the fish, how to remove the bits no one wanted, showed her the seasons he used, and soon enough the two fish were skewered above the fire. "It's not hard but some of it takes practice," he'd wash his hands off in the river.

"Now we just wait," he'd sit by the fire, motioning her to join him. "We'll be warm and it'll cook our food," he'd say with a smile. "Next time I can show you how to smoke meat, but it isn't quite as fun as this."

He'd add a few more pieces of wood to the fire. "You getting hungry?" he'd ask with a smile. "You did good catching the fish."

Kueria indulged in the unique fragrance that wafted from the cooking meat. She had smelt something similar when walking past the school cafeteria but never got close enough to experience the full intensity of it. This was different, not quite like the sweet fragrance of flowers yet not like the sharp aroma raw spices. Instead, this was a mix of a plethora of scents, birthing something simply unique.

"Kueria didn't know meat can be cooked like this! She thought people ate it raw or something... Kueria can't wait to try it!" Noticing Eein motion for her to sit next to him, she gladly complied and promptly plopped herself down before asking: "Does Eein always eat cooked meat?"

You getting hungry?

Their idle conversation made the girl completely forget about how hungry she initially was. Giving her wings a few quick flaps, she grabbed onto the coat to prevent it from flying off due to her rapid motions as she nodded her head.

You did good catching the fish

There came the praise that she was still so not used to. She knew it was a simple friendly gesture from one friend to another, however, she couldn't decipher why such words coming from Eein carried so much meaning. It was completely, utterly confusing. After a quick thought of Kueria will think about this another time, she regained her composure and thanked him for his kind words.

"No, when I go hunting in my dragon form I'll eat the meat raw," he usually hunted deer, but sometimes bear. "I usually cook it when I'm in human form though," he'd chuckle, "guess the meat tastes different depending on the form I'm in."

He'd poke at the fire with a stick, then check the fish and slowly rotating them. "Would you ever be interested in going hunting?" he'd ask curiously, plenty of birds hunted, so he wondered if she did.

The young dragon would sit back down with her, leaning back on his hands. "Honestly....I spend more time out here than in the city," it was basically a second home to him.

TIlting her head ever so slightly to the side, Kueria listened on to what Eein had to say. Apparently meat could taste different depending on what form she was in, who knew! Perhaps it was the fact that chowing her food down raw enabled her to heal wounds or the fact that she spent most of her time as a bird by nature, the girl never consumed any form of substance whilst she was a fae. Perking up, she shifted her gaze from the dancing flames back to her friend as she spoke:

"Meat tastes... different? Kueria is very excited to try! She usually only eats as a bird because..." Trailing off, the girl went completely silent as a thought surfaced from the depths of her mind. Would Eein still be willing to be her friend even after knowing she can only stay human for a limited period of time per day? Biting down on her lower lip, she continued to contemplate letting this piece of information slip. On one hand the thought of losing a friend she just made felt devastating, on the other, it wasn't something she could lie about. Continuing her speech, she couldn't hide the shaky trepidation that emerged in her tone. "Because she only has 5 hours a day as a human."

Once the other brought up the idea of hunting, she quickly slipped back into the ebullient composure. "Kueria would love to go hunting with Eein! She always hunts alone and it gets lonely sometimes, it would mean so much to her if Eein joins her!"

"Five hours," he'd say with a thoughtful hum. "Have you considered talking to the teachers at school? They might be able to help you have your human form longer." He knew a few dragons who could only stay in dragon form for so long, but nothing as short as five hours.

He'd offer her a smile. "We'll free up one weekend for a hunting trip then," he didn't often hunt with others, but it seemed like it could be fun. "I have a good area I hunt in often that I can take you to."

The dragon would check on the fish. "Look like its it's ready," taking out two plates he'd set the fish on them. "Ready to eat?" he'd ask with a chuckle, setting out some forks and knives.

Now the idea of talking to the teachers in the school never crossed the girl's mind. Perhaps it was the lack of friendship or perhaps she simply didn't have the time to be properly acquainted with them since her arrival. Nonetheless, despite having her doubts, that was one more thing on her to-do list.

"Kueria will try to talk to the teachers! She doesn't know if it would work though because a long time ago a witch made Kueria a bird."

Simply the mention about hunting made her give her wings an excited flap. Speaking up, her usual cheery tone radiated a little more enthusiasm. "Okay! Kueria would love to see where Eein hunts! Usually Kueria hunts in the forbidden forest because the monsters there are fun to play with and usually make Kueria very full! Has Eein been to the forbidden forest?"

The fae stared intently at the fork and knives as she gently gave the odd objects a few nudges. "Kueria really wants to eat but... what are these...?" Halting all movements, she then tilted her head up as her expression morphed into one of confusion.

"I've been there once or twice," he'd take a sip from a bottle of water. "I've hunted the reptile bears there," he also had a rather unpleasant encounter with a synthesis flower there, but that was a story for another time. "Haven't been there in a while though."

"You've never used a fork and knife before?" he'd ask, tilting his head. "They're to help you eat, but you don't have to use them if you don't want to," scooting over to her, he'd show her how to use the utensils. "The knife isn't sharp really, so no risk of being cut."

He'd take a bite of his fish, smiling in satisfaction, he'd done well. "Whatcha think?" he'd ask once she'd taken a bite.

Kueria carefully watched the other's actions and mimicked him the best she could in using the utensils provided. Slowly, she brought the fork close to her mouth as she took a whiff of the food's sensory aroma. Given that she was trying something new, she felt a slight uncertainty throb within the cage of her chest but she quickly shook it off as she shoved the fish into her mouth.

Almost instantly, a tirade of flavours hit her as she let out a squeal of delight. Different spices all complemented each other to birth a blend of pure perfection. The meat was soft, tender, much different from the raw and chewy meals she was so used to. Looking up, she quickly swallowed her food before speaking.

"It tastes so good! Kueria has never tasted anything like it before! Thanks so much for teaching her how to cook!" Pausing, she proceeded to cut herself a huge piece of fish and gobbled it down like a hungry child before mumbling. "Someday, Kueria will try to cook for Eein too!"

The dragon would chuckle a little. "You're welcome Kueria," he'd take another bite of his own fish, enjoying the taste, satisfied with his work. "I'll look forward to eating your cooking," he'd tilt his head, "the school has cooking classes, if you think you'll enjoy it you could look into them."

Eein would eat his fish, downing it via a bottle of water. "If you ever want help with cooking you can always come to me," he was curious about what kinds of things she'd enjoy cooking.

"Oh, one more thing....," reaching into his bag, he'd pull out w tub full of cookies. "I brought some of these," smiling he'd open the tub and set it between them. "Help yourself."
