Kueria blinked as her phone screen lit up with a single notification from her newest friend, Eein. The message was small, fuzzy, and worst of all, it was in English. Oh, how she despised English but nonetheless, she understood the gist of the message: meet him in the dorms to go fishing. Fiddling with the device, she proceeded to spend the next five minutes figuring out how to send back a quick "Okie!"

Once the designated hour of day had arrived, the girl made her way to the meeting place and waited, her miniature wings flapping behind her back in excitement. Finally, this bird would learn how to fish the human way!

He'd smile when his new friend appeared, he had all the supplies they needed, a fishing pole over one shoulder, the smaller supplies in a box in his other hand. "Excited are we?" he'd ask with a small chuckle, "if your wings flap any harder you might lift off."

"Follow me, I'll show you to the stream I usually go to," he'd lead her out of the school, humming a little as they went. "The spot I fish at is really pretty, even now in the winter," he'd say as they neared the forest, "it's a perfect spot."

The dragon would lead his friend into a trail through the forest, leading then to the small river. It had clear water, and nice plants and grass around it.

"I got us a blanket to sit on," he'd say, setting the stuff down and retrieving said blanket from the bag, spreading it out on a spot. "You ready to learn?" he'd ask with a smile.

The fae nodded fervently as the other offered to take her to the stream and gladly complied as he led the way. She noticed the foreign object resting atop his shoulder but paid it little mind and saved the inevitable question for later. Indeed, the stream was mystical to say the least - pristine waters were brimming with marine life, further enhancing the white wonders of winter. Standing at the edge of the stream she sparred herself a moment to take in the splendor of it all.

Promptly plopping herself down on the mat after saying her quick thanks to Eein, she glanced toward the stream, then to the male, then back to the stream and finally, back to the male. Blowing a puff of mist, she then spoke, her voice swaying the ambiance like a spring zephyr as her lips curved into the brightest twinkle:

"Kueria would love to learn, she's very excited! What should she do?"

"Ok, so this is a fishing rod," he'd motion to said tool, "attached to it is the fighting line." He'd go on to point out the various parts of the rod. "Now, you have to be careful with the hooks," he'd show her one of the hooks, "they're very sharp, and hard to remove, so you don't want to accidentally get one on you."

He'd show her to put bait on the hook and the basics on reeling in the fish. "You need patience, catching the fish is perhaps not quite as fun as eating them, but it's still enjoyable," he'd with a smile and a chuckle.

"Let's catch...two?" he'd cast out the line, reeling it in and casting it again, doing this a few times before taking a seat and patting the spot next to him for her to sit. "So...let's talk until I get a bite. You liking the island? Getting used to thr school ok?"

The dumb bird leaned in, staring intently at the fishing rod letting out a light hum as he explained how the odd device worked. The hook looked seemingly harmless but she took note of the warning that Eein gave her and remembered to be extra cautious if she were to handle it. Upon hearing the man warn her that fishing might potentially be a bore, the girl just shook her head and said:

"It's okay, Kueria thinks time with friends is always fun! Two fishes sound good!"

Gladly taking the spot that he offered, Kueria stared at the slow ripples circling in the stream as she thought of her answer. Shifting her gaze from that of the water back to the guy, she then said answered him in a languid, yet still somehow child-like manner of speech

"Kueria loves the island, its so so so pretty! There are also many nice people like Eein! English is very hard but Kueria's doing her best!" Letting out an elevated chirp, she then continued her speech in the same enthusiastic fashion. "Does Eein like school too? What is Eein's favorite subject?"

"Yeah, school is ok," he'd say with a thoughtful hum. "The basic subjects like math and all that is alright, I'm more into physical activity, so gym is my favorite class," he'd say with a chuckle. "I'd rather be running around outside than sitting in some classroom."

He'd adjust his pole a little. "After school I'm always either here, at work or with friends," he'd chuckle a little. "I feel more at home here than almost anywhere else," pulling a bottle of water from his bag he'd pass it to her.

"Getting along ok with the other students?" he'd ask curiously. "I haven't lived in the dorms for a while, I remember they were nice though," he was a little worried that some students might take advantage of her naivety.

It was no surprise that the other seemed to enjoy gym lessons more than normal, boring classes. In fact, Kueria kind of shared that sentiment as literally every subject involved English in one way or another. On the other hand, economics just appealed to her and she didn't quite know why as well. Thus she responded with: "Kueria thinks so too, gym classes are very fun because she gets to move but being in the woods really is the best!"

Gladly taking the offered water, she took a sip before further enquiring: "What does Eein work as? Does Eein like work? What does Eein and his friends do?" The concept of work was still quite foreign to her as well, given that she was just a girl living by the seaside and talking to random birds.

Getting along ok with the other students?

Immediately perking up, she answered him in the most avid tone she could muster, exhilarated that she could share stories of her other friends. "Kueria met a few nice people! There was this pretty miss she met in the arts wing, this green person and a mister she met somewhere..." trailing off yet again the bird sought her memories for proper names but to no avail. "Kueria really likes it here, she hopes Eein is having as much fun as she is!"

"I'm a bus boy, which means I clean at a restaurant," he'd say with a chuckle, "and yeah, I like it. The restuarant has really good food, it's one of the reasons I started working there." Reaching into his pocket he'd pull out a business card from the restuarant and handed it to there. "Sometime I'll take you their for lunch."

"As for me and my friends," he'd shrug. "We hang out, run around the island, I sorta train with one of them." None of his friends could really keep up with him physically, but they were still good friends. "You could even come with us some if you'd like."

He'd chuckle. "Yeah, the island is a good place to live," he'd say, humming thoughtfully. "I've been here over a year now, there's always something happening here, always something to do."

At the idea of lunch, Kueria's lips curled into an elevated grin as her wings flapped excitedly whilst she exclaimed "Yay! Kueria would love to have lunch with Eein! Kueria should find work before that though because nice people told her that food costs money... and Kueria doesn't have any. Does Eein know anywhere Kueria can get a job?" Indeed, the bird's sole food source came from hunting in the woods, mainly the forbidden forest, and drinking from streams. After all, she was a predatory bird - such things just seemed like instinct. Thus it wasn't out of the ordinary that she hasn't stepped foot in the city.

"Training sounds fun, Kueria usually trains on her own." Speaking of which, wasn't this the kind sir which introduced her to the idea of bird whispering? Yes, yes he was. Hence she proudly informed him: "Now Kueria can hear the birdies thoughts! Thanks for telling Kueria about this Eein, Kueria is very grateful!"

She let out a light gasp as he told her about how long he'd been on the island. To the girl, a year on the island felt like eons since she had only just arrived. "Wow, Eein has been here for a long time! Are there any cool adventures he's been on?"

"I can pay the first time," he'd say, checking the line on the rod. "You're new, so can't expect you to have money yet," he'd lean back a little. "As for a job....," the dragon would hum in thought, "there's lots of shops in the city, honestly it might be good to wait a little bit, the school will give you an allowance for now."

"Oh? Well take power training slow, I've heard picking up to many thoughts at once can be painful." He'd tilt his head, "plus other sapient birds might not react well."

The fishing line would twitch, and soon Eein had reeled a fish in. "There we are," he'd grin, quickly setting the fish in the cooler. "Ok, you ready for your turn?" he'd ask motioning her to scoot closer.
