If one would ever come by near the lake, they'd hear just for today a series of excited squeals from one direction to another, because Elizabeth was behind the trees running around trying to catch the little birds playing with her. They were high up in the trees, but she followed them on the ground, and to be honest it even crossed her mind to climb one of the trees, if only she wasn't wearing a skirt and a really cute pastel blue sweater, knitted.

She had been doing this for a few minutes. Eventually she grew tired of running, but once she's sat down by the lake was when the tiny balls of fluff approached her. She brought a bag of bread crumbs with her, a fascinating thing she's discovered in a place called the grocery store along with many other merchandise. She gave the birds a bit, and even let them feed on her palm.

It was too bad that she couldn't share this happy moment with anyone.

That's why when she saw a figure in the distance, she quickly called out, "Pardon me, sir!" Unfortunately, it scared some of the birds and they flew away, which left Elizabeth whimpering at her mistake.

The sound of a sudden voice and multiple wings flapping caused William to jump. He quickly calmed his beating heart and looked in the direction of the voice. He spotted a girl in a blue sweater, looking in his direction.

A finger subconsciously tugged at the sleeve of his sweater. He pointed at his own chest as if to ask "Me?", and, without waiting for an answer, began walking in her direction.

He noticed that she was near the lake, which was fortunately what he had been looking for. His interest was piqued even further. Once he got close enough to talk, he asked "Do you need something?"

Some of the birds came back quickly after she calmed down, so there really was no loss there. Elizabeth nodded and waved for the tall person to come closer, and she grinned brightly when he did.

She stood up and met him halfway, a couple of small fluffballs still in her opened palms near her chest. She showed the tiny creatures to him without hesitation.

"Oh, good day to you, friend!" She spoke with a British accent and a small cheerful voice. "Lovely day we're having, yes? Look at these cute creatures here! Aren't they lovely?"

The birds were still eating the bread crumbs off her palm.

Elizabeth watched them momentarily, before looking up at her new acquaintance once more. "Do you like birds? Or other animals, for that matter. I've been wanting to play with them, but not many show themselves to me."

William was taken aback by the girl's directness, but did not show it. Instead, he beamed brightly because of the up close view of the birds. He had never been able to approach the creatures without them fleeing once he got too close. However, they perched on her hand as it was natural, pecking what seemed to be bread crumbs out of her palm.

The girl spoke English, but sounded very different from his original English teacher. He remembered the word for such a phenomenon: it was called an "accent," and hearing one was quite the experience.

"Yes, actually," he said. "Birds are some of my favorite animals. There aren't really many animals I don't like. Do you, um, mind if I hold them?" The tattoos on his hands lit up at the thought.

The glowing sun patterns on his hands caught Elizabeth's attention, and she made a quiet "Ooooh" of fascination as she watched them. "No, I don't mind at all!" she giggled and shook her head, and handed the birds over.

"You have to be really careful when you hold them, so they wouldn't fly away," she instructed. The birds hopped over to the male's hands obediently, and as the three of them did Elizabeth reached for her bag of bread crumbs in her pocket and poured more of it on his hands.

She liked the guy already.

"May I ask for your name? I'm Elizabeth."

Excitement spiked in his heart as the little creatures hopped into his hand, but he immediately calmed himself down. He couldn't get too excited, or else his hands would heat up. Their small heads turned sporadically, and beady black eyes examined him curiously.

William grinned, and he even felt laughter bubbling up in his chest, but again, he suppressed the feeling. The girl poured bread crumbs in his hands, and the birds immediately began pecking away. Their beaks tickled his hand.

He had been so preoccupied with watching the balls of fluff that he nearly missed Elizabeth's question. "Elizabeth, huh? That's a nice name," he muttered. "My name is William." He held out his hand for her to shake.

"Very nice to make your acquaintance, William!"

The birds on his other hand had flew off and went to his shoulders when he moved to offer a handshake. Elizabeth was quite surprised, especially since she was still not used to modern ways of greeting like the handshake. She stared at his hand for a few seconds before deciding to take it. She held his hand and gave it a small shake, but her grip was weak and hesitant and just a little bit awkward.

She smiled sheepishly and gave an excuse right away. "I'm not used to this. When I first arrived, I couldn't even believe male and female can talk this close without malice."

The birds on his hand flew over to his shoulders. His eyes widened at the sudden movement, but he was more concerned with Elizabeth's reaction. Not only had she used a particularly complicated word (even though he recognized it), but she seemed to be confused by his gesture, Fortunately, she completed her side of the handshake without question.

"It's nice to meet you too, Elizabeth," he said, smiling. The birds continued moving on his shoulders, if only slightly.

However, once William heard the reasoning for her hesitance, he couldn't help but feel genuinely confused.

"Really?" he asked, shocked. "Well, I'm proud to say that I like to be friendly with everyone I meet. That's really how everyone was back where I lived." Now that the birds were off of his hands, the warmth came back to them, and his tattoos briefly glowed again.

"Well, I just found out that my home has been very behind when it comes to culture and tradition," Elizabeth explained. When William's hands glowed again, she couldn't help but watch them in awe.

"Why is your hand doing that?" she asked. Her eyes were wide while she stared at the glowing marks. "It's beautiful."

William lifted both of his hands to look at them, and couldn't help but grin at Elizabeth's wonder. It was a strange occurrence indeed, and it sometimes even surprised himself when it happened.

"Well, these marks can glow on two occasions," he began. "One of those occasions is if I'm suddenly expressing an emotion, such as fear or anger. The other occasion is if my body warms up. In this instance it was the second, as I was keeping my hands cool for the birds to rest on."

He held up his hands with the backs facing Elizabeth so she could see the marks clearly, and that was when a thought came to mind.

"Actually, there are three instances. I can make them glow up manually, as well." To demonstrate, he made the marks blink rapidly, as if it was Morse code.
