Starlight Academy was really quite a beautiful school. When Nia had first been told that she would be leaving the orphanage and heading to some island school, she never imagined it to be like this. She had expected more bricks and mortar and zombie kids everywhere, like with the nuns.
However, the buildings were nice and outside was even better. Nia had gotten a small glimpse when she had arrived three days ago and had yet to explore for herself. She was horribly scared at first to venture outside. Every time she had exited the building for some reason, weather to eat or go to the administration office, she had found herself seeing the most incredible people. Some of them looked beautiful and mystical, others looked terrifying like they had just walked out of horror movie.
It honestly made Nia feel a bit better about herself. Suddenly being an amnesiac who could see the future wasn't even slightly the weirdest thing on the island. However, it was the fact that there were other creatures outside, some who tried to talk to her, and that made Nia very anxious. Extremely anxious.
Today though was perfect though. The sun had been out and the weather was cool and pleasant. It was a couple hours from sunset and Nia really wanted to go for a walk and watch the sunset by the lake. She had a map so she knew how to get there. She could do this. She wasn't going to let anything scare her. She was going to be strong.
Sadly, as soon as the poor girl walked outside, she immediately wanted to run back inside. There was a group of people with green skin and tails standing outside her building. They smiled at Nia and she felt her heart drop. Her anxiety started rising but she was determined to make it to the sunset. She turned quickly, thankful for her sunglasses and hat that hid her eyes, and began to walk away from the group. She wasn't trying to be rude, but she was terrified they would try to talk to her...Nia hated talking to strangers. Or really anyone for that matter.
As she was making her way through the courtyards, she couldn't help but pause in awe at all the flowers and greenery. She had stopped by one particularly pretty tulip when she felt it.
The buzzing. It was soft right now, just like someone had turned a fan on in the back of her head but she could feel it. It started spreading slowly. Instantly Nia's hands began to shake. She knew that this was bound to happen sooner or later but she had hoped it would be when she was alone in her room. Not in the middle of the courtyard in broad daylight.
She looked around franticly, her eyes already starting to fill with tears as the dread for what was about to occur consumed her. There was no where to hide. She knew she would never make it back to her room before the vision hit. All Nia could do was stand there paralyzed in fear, feeling the buzzing spreading and increasing in intensity and volume, with tears streaming down her face.
