Despite always having a love for the ocean, Dyshelle couldn't say that she'd actually spent a lot of time on boats. She'd ridden one to get to the island for her schooling over a decade and a half ago, but she didn't maker it her business to ride on anything smaller than a large commercial vessel. Yet here she was, standing on the pier in shorts, waiting for her chance to go out on the sea again.

Having lived here s long, she'd seen her fair share of storms and bad weather from the sea. They blamed it on weather patterns and meeting of airs of varying temperatures, but today was clear, and the sea looked calm and clear, almost crystallized and glassy.

Not that the witch actually knew anything about the sea.

She slid her hands into her pockets and waited for Grant to arrive. The pirate was such a sweetheart honestly--and he'd seemed so willing to let her take a trip on his boat that she simply couldn't contain her excitement.

Grant yawned as he walked down the road to the pier. He'd slept in a bit, wanting to conserve his energy for his outing. He'd been meeting with Shellie a lot as of late, helping her with odd jobs and such, sharing old sea stories. His fellow teacher always seemed to enjoy his stories, she was an endless source of questions.

The other day, she had mentioned she hadn't been out on the sea since she had come to the island. Grant had been horrified, and immediately offered to take her out on a little day cruise. She'd agreed, and they agreed on a time.

Rose got to Shellie first, the macaw flapping over with a Caw and landing on a railing nearby. "Scrawk! Attention on deck!" The parrot cawed at Shellie. Grant appeared shortly after, a small cooler in his hand.

"Quiet down girl, we ain' on deck yet." He chuckled, giving Shellie a two-fingered salute. "Well, don'che look all gussied up. Excited, aint'cha?" He grinned again, tilting his hat up. This was going to be a good day.

Shellie bounced in place as she waited, looking at the ocean and passersby, some of whom looked back and asked her questions like if she was lost, who was she waiting for, and quite a few people offered to escort her wherever it was she needed to go. She politely declined them and thanked them as she waited.

Her first sign of Grant's arrival was his bird Rose, who landed on the nearby railing and cawed at her. The witch didn't really know what attention on deck meant--probably that there was something on deck she should be paying attention to--but what-slash-where the deck was and what she should be paying attention to flew a bit over her head. Pun intended.

She smiled and waved at the bird. "Why hello there Rose. How have you been, my dear lady?"

Hearing Grant address his bird, she turned to her fellow teacher and gave him and nice wave.

"Well, don'che look all gussied up. Excited, aint'cha?"

"Oh! Well, hah, yes--I didn't know what to wear and I thought a dress would be a poor choice given all the wind--is this alright for going on a boat?" Shellie twisted around in place, looking over her attire. She supposed it could be considered a bit.... fancy.

Rose flapped her wings as Shellie addressed her, cawing at her again. "Skrawk!"

Grant grinned, setting the cooler down and crossing his arms, looking Shellie up and down, an approving look in his eye.

"Don'che worry lass, Ye' look fine. Gon' be a lot of sun, wouldn' do fer ye ta get too 'eated up." He laughed. "Did ye 'ave any trouble findin' th' place?" He asked.

This particular pier was nestled in between a pair of commercial piers, unlike the larger private docks. It was one of the older ones on the island, full of the wealthier resident's private nautical vehicles.

Grant chuckled, looking out over the sea. "Lovely day for a trip, eh lass?"

The small witch shook her head. "No, not at all. I did walk past it once... though, luckily I realized my mistake before I reached the other side of the pier." Shellie ran her fingers through her hair in embarrassment. She usually had an okay sense of direction, but something about this...

Still, she looked over Grant's vessel appreciatively. It wasn't a huge old-timey ship like she was expecting, all old wood and stinking of many voyages out on the sea. Instead it was white and nice and sleek, much smaller than she was expecting, though still fairly large. She was excited to see how this boat handled compared to the ship she used to get to the island all those years ago.

"Oh certainly," she said with a soft nod. "It's quite a lovely day, not a cloud in the sky!"

The pirate laughed as he stepped aboard his boat. He'd bought this a few years back, and it had served him well enough.

"Most people don' know abou' this 'ere dock. It's mostly private vessels, th' rich folk mainly. I've been 'ere the longest though." He chuckled again, holding out a hand for Shellie to take as assistance in getting on his ship.

Once the witch was safely aboard hsi vessel, he spread his arms. "Welcome to tha Lady Luck." He was pretty proud of his ship.

His grin brightened when she mentioned the lack of clouds. Grant had a direct hand in that.

Shellie took the pirate's hand like a lady, stepping aboard the ship and immediately sway slightly from side to side in an attempt to correct her balance. It wasn't bad, not by any means. She guessed this was because they were still in the port and not out on the sea where the waves might actually get rough.

Once they reached that point, she expected to have trouble just standing up, let alone staying balanced on the small ship.

"It's quite sweet ship," she said, giving him a small wink as she said the word sweet. "Are there any things I should look out for out on the water?"

Grant chuckled as Shellie began to sway. The water was a bit choppy right now, the wind was blowing in from a different part of the island. With luck, it would level out when they got out in the ocean.

"Look out fer? Well no, jus' th' Kraken." He waggled his fingers to punctuate his 'Warning'. Shellie didn't have to look out for the Kraken, that would just be silly.

Grant and Charleston were on good terms, he wouldn't bother the duo.

"Are ye' ready to set sail?" Grant asked, double-checking some of his instruments before moving to untie his vessel.

"Oh you--I'm being serious!" She said with mock anger, swatting his leg as she windmilled her arms to stay upright. It took another minute for her to feel good about walking anywhere. She followed him to an extent, only going as far as she would need to to see clearly in front of the ship.

Once there, she settled down and clung to a railing.

Insurance policy.

"Okay, I'm ready."

Grant chuckled, leading Shellie up to where the wheel was. There was a second seat up here, right at the front of the boat. Grant helped Shellie sit down and get settled, before he went and finished unhooking his vessel from the docks. He turned the key, and slowly began to sail out of the harbor, moving slowly as he was supposed too.

"Gettin' yer sea legs, aintcha?" Grant chuckled as they slowly made their way out of the harbor. Grant would be sure to warn her when he left the confines of the harbor, because then he could speed up.
