It was only natural for teachers to be within their own designated lounge, but Cadaverini wasn't much of a talker. She often haunted the lounge like a ghost and floated in and out as she pleased. This time she decided to utilize her break time as a way to drink coffee and catch up on a book. The coffee pot moved out of its spot to pour some of its contents into a purple and black mug. The sugar then floated by with a spoon and then added several spoonfuls to the cup. Finally the spoon dipped into the coffee and stirred it well until the sugar was all throughout the drink. It then moved to the pale woman in dark business clothes and makeup.

The woman took a sip from the floating mug as she read her floating book. It was a romance novel that she was mildly embarrassed to be reading. She didn't want to give the impression that she was all for the lovey-dovey, but romance novels were her hubris. While she doubted she would ever have a romantic relationship, she was fascinated by the concept of them just like she was with many tropes. At least there were some thriller elements added into this one. She was mostly in her own world, so for once she failed to notice if there was anyone around her or not.

The Academy never seemed to skimp on amenities or quality when it came to providing for the students and faculty. He never asked where the money came from, and he cared less and less as his time at the Academy increased. All he knew was that he had a nice spacious office, good teaching materials and a teacher's lounge that actually felt like a relaxing space. Today, in particular, he was going to need it.

Jacob was not the kind of man to be incredibly frustrated with his job, at least not at this point in his career. He was especially not the kind of man to make a scene about it. But today he broke his own personal code. Just a little. As he trundled into the teacher's lounge, he unceremoniously plopped his bag onto a table, took a seat at that table and then put his face down on it with a sigh.

"Eeeeuugh..."

Flipping his head up slightly, he spotted one of his coworkers: Mirella. He had seen her around a few times, but he had not gotten around to getting familiar with her. She seemed like a nice woman. He wished he had her telekinesis powers though.

"Oh. Uh. Sorry for the scene."

He sat up more properly and straighted his hair.

"Do you mind floating me over some coffee with cream and sugar? Please?"

Just as Mirella finished a chapter, she heard the loud sound of a bag plop onto the table. Thankfully her coffee was still floating within the air, so it didn't effect much. She took another sip as her book moved slightly to the left to reveal who it was. Ah, yes, she recognized his face. His name....Jake? No wait, Jacob. Still close. She didn't even blink at him as he requested a coffee. Her head shifted over to the pot. The pot once again lifted itself off the machine and poured some coffee into the mug. This time, both the sugar dish and the cream rose to add both. Then the blend was mixed together with a spoon to make a satisfying cup of coffee that moved over to Jacob.

"You sound exhausted."

She stated this in her matter-of-fact tone as the fresh mug of coffee landed nicely on the table. It was right there for the math teacher to grab. While she was about to return to her book, she had the strange feeling that she was about to be involved in a conversation. Thinking about it, she never talked to him before. This made her mildly intrigued by her colleague, but this was not noticeable in her expression.

"I'm beat."

While Mirella psycho-kinetically made him a mug of coffee, Jacob was busy rubbing his entire face with both hands in an effort to wake up and wipe away the stress. After everything he had been through to put him in such an exhausted mood, he was not feeling all that compelled to keep up his usual cool appearance.

He stopped rubbing and patting his face one he heard the soft sound of a mug floating down onto the table. Hunching over the table a little, he retrieved the mug and gave Mirella a thankful smile.

"Thank you. Thank you very much."

Jacob took a nice long drink from the mug, enjoying the warmth flowing down into his gut where it could start working its caffienated magic. The drink was so long that he had to gasp when he stopped and set the mug down again.

"... I'm sorry. I shoulda introduced myself better."

Looking a little better, though still tired, he extended a hand to Mirella.

"I'm Jacob Cunningham. I don't think we've properly met until now, even though I've seen you around here before."

Mirella did not respond, at least not visually, to having been thanked. She only gave a light nod. Her hand reached out and grabbed his. She had a really firm handshake.

"Mirella Melania Cadaverini."

She thought a bit about the last name. It reminded her of her family. To think that she was the daughter of a mobster....well, it was certainly nightmare fuel for many people in the school. It was bad enough that she had a blank expression and monotone voice nearly all the time; her family origins did not help matters. She knew some faculty members were particularly tense around her due to that combined with her mental abilities. It bothered her secretly, but she would shrug it off if anyone asked.

Her eyes glanced over at her coffee mug. She traced the rim of the cup with her finger as she debated taking a sip from it. Then she remembered the other teacher's tiredness and decided to inquire what happened.

"What has you so exasperated, Jacob?"

The few times she did observe the math teacher, he was nowhere near as exhausted. In fact, rumor had it that he was quite flirtatious, but she never put much faith into rumors. Something was clearly bugging him, so this was her way of showing care without breaking her icy facade.

"A pleasure to finally talk to you, Mirella."

Mirella's especially strong handshake was a momentary surprise for Jacob. Almost anyone who worked at the Academy, or even attended the Academy, had more going on than what their initial appearances would lead him to believe. So it was not unreasonable to think that Mirella might be... something stronger than an ordinary woman, or she could have just been especially regularly strong.

Her inquiry into his problems was a welcome one. While he was not the kind of person who was eager to dump all his problems on other people, he liked being able to talk about them occasionally.

"Just the usual wrok stuff. You probably know what."

At least he hoped so, anyway.

"It's testing time and I've got a billion assignments and papers to grade, kids asking me about things they should've asked weeks ago, and everything in between."

He took another drink from his coffee, nearly finishing it off.

"Plus, I've got a few special cases I need to attend to, not the least of which is this poor girl who is confusing her feeling for guidance for other feelings for me. I'm gonna have to start beating her back with a stick soon..."

Mirella understood him completely. While her structures were different in that she assigned mostly papers and very few tests, she knew that feeling of pain when it was test time. Many students found this time to be stressful, but it was even more so for teachers. They had to write the tests, make sure that all the answers were perfect and the questions are of the right difficulty level, hand them out, and then grade them all in a timely manner. That didn't include cases where people would run in last minute to ask about material from weeks ago. It was very irritating, especially when she knew they didn't take notes.

She waited for him to finish speaking before chiming in with her thoughts. It was funny how he had a female student that admired him. She was fairly certain some of the guys in her classes were clearly checking her out, but she paid them no mind. As she was about to give her point, she then remembered what she had in her bag. She decided to illustrate it for him by taking out a pile of poems she had to grade and plopping them on the table. Her mind powers then lifted the pages and took out three different poems.

"As you may know, I teach English. As such, I prefer to give written work over tests."

Her mind powers then lifted the pages and took out three different poems.

"Sometimes I get really beautiful works like this."

She presented poem one. It was a wonderfully written work about the unnamed narrator trying to decide if he or she should fall into temptation or not using metaphors with fruit and wealth. The poem was in iambic pentameter and about 15 lines. Once he got a chance to fully read it, she then shuffled it away.

"Sometimes I get crap like this."

Then she presented poem two. It was a very crude freeform "poem" with sexually explicit lines filled with curse words and slang. It's a...very disturbing depiction of what the narrator wishes to do with the teacher, and it is far from being written well at all. She resists the urge to cringe as she hid it away.

"Then there are times where I swear a student is just screwing with me."

She showed poem three. It....was the lyrics to the Duck Tales theme. Yes, seriously. It clearly wasn't a mistake either; the student actively tried to get rid of all references of ducks so that it looked like it was an original poem. Unfortunately for that student, Mirella was not a dumbass.

"I have to read through what feels like billions of these, and then because of the nature of the assignment, I'm often stuck bickering with a student since he or she feels like they deserve an A for writing five lines of grammatically incorrect, misspelled, and incoherent gibberish about love or some other cliche. Then when I do host exams, I deal with what you just explained."

Sometimes being a teacher was just a pain in the rear.

"Do you... use your hands for anything...?"

The question was a joke, with only hints of a serious inquiry. He was being a little hypocritcal with his opinion of Mirella's telekenesis though. If he had the power to move and manipulate almost anything with just his thoughts, and little to know physical movement, he would probably doing everything with it too. Maybe he would keep exercising to keep his body looking good, but everything else would telekenesis.

Jacob meanwhile sipped gently at what was left of his coffe as he listened to Mirella read back some of the assignments from her own students. He immediately understood what she was trying to do once she started reading the first poem. As good as it was, it was also not that subtle in Jacob's ears. He found it sweet and a little chuckleworthy.

"At least your admirers can constructively express their feelings. I've had girls trying to flash me their goods in an attempt to seduce me, or maybe get me fired. I dunno..."

The second poem was crude, if he had to be honest. However, he also saw hints of inspiration and where the student was trying to come from. Not all poetry was beautiful and of classical style. Some poetry was harsher and was read better in time with a beat. Perhaps the student had a hip hop influence, though they could have used some better artists as inspiration.

The third was just not good at all. Jacob shook his head at a poem that was so bad, he had to wonder if it was not intentional and part of some kind of joke.

"I guess you got it harder then. 'Cause if a student wants to argue over their answers or solutions on my assignments, they have to actually show me their work. You can't fake that. But--and I mean no offense--stuff like English and the arts have some fudge room for what works and what doesn't. And that's enough for them to start arguing."

He finished off his coffee, already looking better than when he first came in.

"But maybe I get it hard in my own way too. You ever have students coming up to looking to boost their grades with "extra credit" during "private sessions"? Let me tell ya, that gets really old and uncomfortable really fast when it's coming from girls younger than my daughter."

Mirella actually thought for a moment about her hands before a slight smirk broke out on her face. She decided to take a sip of her coffee like a normal person for the lulz. It then went back to floating freely in the air after she was done. Of course, she did have a reasoning for this; bottling up her feelings wasn't too much of a problem. Bottling up her mental abilities was. She found that when she didn't use her capabilities, her head began to bother her with all the energy it wasn't using. As a result, she learned to do simple tasks with her telekinesis for the sake of easing her mind. It was a careful balance of usage. Besides, it was funner this way.

"No, not really."

She heard his reaction to each poem and would keep showcasing each one until she finished the third one. That probably really was a joke. Well, that joke was not going to give the student a passing grade. Her finger twisted her hair as she listened in on what Jacob had to say. She nodded in agreement.

"I love the arts because it allows people to express themselves. I hate grading creative arts because what constitutes art varies between person to person. I usually have to go based off of various criteria, including effort, but even then that's a slippery slope."

The cup floated over, and she finished off the rest of her cup. It then floated over to the coffee pot to serve more as the conversation continued. By the time it was her turn to speak, there was another fresh cup of coffee floating by her.

"Thankfully I don't have to deal with students asking me for extra credit all that much. You either write the assignment or you don't. The debates only happen when the grade is up. I'm also infamous for being rather harsh, especially towards certain....advances guys attempt."

Going on a date with Ms. Cadaverini seemed practically impossible. She was just so cold and blunt that it was best not to bother trying at all.

"You sure seem to have a lot of fangirls."

"I've always had a lot of fangirls since I became a teacher, and I'm not bragging about that."

His supposed "fan club" was something he had long grown accostomed to, and yet there were still times that he found himself surprised by what those girls, and occasional boys, would do to get his attention. Talking about it felt nice since he did not find often people empathetic towards his plight.

"After the first few years of teaching, I started getting the reputation of the 'hot teacher'. And it's not like I did actively did anything to earn it, other than working out and taking care of myself. It's not like I flirted with my students, like in anime or whatever."

If Mirella was going to share things of her student, Jacob felt like sharing too. Using his own two hands, he reached into his bag and pulled out a nice stack of papers of varying sizes. They all had the telltale creases in them that indicated that they had all been folded up beforehand.

"But I do like to get personable with my students. Get to know them and their lives and their struggles. I want to be there for them as a person they can trust. Considering that they're teenagers, it then shouldn't be a surprise when someone of them misconstrue my actions and I get things... Like these."

He hesitated for a moment before passing the stack of handwritten notes to Mirella. Written in different kinds of ink of different colors, they were all letters of confession or invitation from his 'admirers'.

Some of them were innocent in nature, and wanted to know they could hang out some time or simply expressing some kind of tender affection. Others were short on words but big on implication, like a couple that simply had a phone number, address, or time on them. Then there were the few standouts that were basically details accounts of how horny Jacob made them feel, or of their daydreams with him. Judging from his blush, he looked like he may have regretted handing those over.

"Some of these kids got no problem telling me everything..."
