Nia had barely just arrived at Starlight Academy and already she had to go see a doctor. She was not at all excited about this in the least. She had been to one doctor before and hated it. The guy was grumpy and rude and kept poking at her and asking questions she didn't know the answers to. At the end, all he had told her was she had amnesia and that at some point she would hopefully start remembering things. She was suppose to go back and see him at some point but that was before she got the letter from Starlight.

She had half hoped she wouldn't have to see any more doctors ever again. Something about them made her feel uneasy but she couldn't figure out why. Her brain told her that doctors were there to help people when they got sick but somehow Nia felt very afraid of them. It made her wonder if there had been something in her before that made her dislike them.

Thankfully the infirmary was fairly easy to find. She was told to go see Dr. Laurie but she didn't know where this woman would be. There was a lady at a desk that said 'Receptionist'. She figured that would be the best place to start. With a big breath for courage, Nia walked timidly up to the desk.

"Um...I'm here for Dr. Laurie?" The small girl barely managed to squeak out. The woman gave her a smile and told her to take a seat. Nia let out a big exhale of relief and quickly moved to the nearest chair. Her legs were shaking so badly just from having to ask one question. Why couldn't she just hide away from people forever?

Grace had no recollection of anything about her past whatsoever.

By some weird, otherwise unwelcome joke of fate, she was cursed with a mind that could not contain information for more than a set period of time. Everything that she was, and ever had hoped to be, was gone. All she knew at the end of the day was her name.

Doctors are what she and her family had sought out for answers.

Finding nothing, she watched as family and friends slowly gave up and stopped coming over, stopped reminding her of who she was – of what was used to be. Her mind remained a blank slate – like the diary that a nurse so kindly decided to give her. Now, every morning the Doctor spends most of her time reading a book about her own life, reminding herself of the things that most people take for granted.

It was a rather slow day, and Grace had sought the opportunity to write more, reminding her future self of things that might be, her current thoughts, her current fears and aches. Things that she would never remember otherwise in this eternal amnesiac existence.

It wasn’t too long however, before she was stopped for a moment with overhearing a conversation starting at the receptionist desk. The door to her office was a few steps away and left open, so it wasn’t so difficult to hear people through the silence.

It was a soft, unconfident voice.

The receptionist was opening her mouth to say something probably about the doctor being available for appointments in about a couple of minutes, but the brunette doctor poked her head outside her door and smiled at the lady. “Come in!” she said, beckoning the girl to her office. She certainly was trying to be as casual as she could. Grace certainly couldn’t figure out how to deal with shy-types yet for some reason, as she would forget immediately how to deal with them a day or so later.

“Please, have a seat.” She said, leading her new patient to a spot in front of her. Once the girl had taken a seat, she would turn around and direct a smile at her patient. “Good morning! I’m Doctor Grace Laurie.” She closed the door gently, “Would you like something to drink or eat while we talk about how I can help you today?”

Nia wasn't expecting the doctor to appear so soon, nor was she expecting her to just pop her head around a corner and call her into her office. It made the small girl jump a bit and her breathing get quicker. She looked to the receptionist quickly, as if maybe this was some kind of trap. But the woman at the desk just gave a small smile and looked back to her papers. She guessed this was all as it was suppose to be and slowly entered into the office.

She took a seat as she was told; Nia was a very obedient girl. She was relieved when the woman told her that she was Dr. Grace Laurie. Somehow just knowing that this woman was the person she was suppose to be seeing made her feel just a bit more relaxed.

The girl began to fiddle with the hem of her dress, her eyes fixed on her fingers as if extremely interested in what they were doing. She gave a quick shake of her head, "I don't need food or anything." It wasn't exactly true. Nia honestly couldn't remember if she had or hadn't gone to breakfast that morning. That happened from time to time; Nia found that there were chucks of her day she just couldn't seem to recall. She tried not to think too much about it otherwise she started to worry and she didn't like to worry more than she already did.

"I'm here because the school said I needed to be checked out by one of their doctors." She looked up expectantly at the woman, "That's you."
