Ava was...on edge, to say the least. She was feeling guilty and kinda pissed about yesterday, when she had pissed off Alex. And even Ava knew enough to know that wasn't good. He was the fucking king, Ava should've known enough not to be pissy with him, even if it was about something as small as an unpleasant nickname. Though Ava hadn't been in one of the bestest moods either, but that was no excuse. So she could blame it all on that ass Broen. Calling her kiwi happened mostly out of friendly teasing, though it still grated her, but him calling her an orphan was a whole another thing.
That straight-up hurt.
And afterwards Ysolda had really laid it on her, calling her a...leech. Ava knew she deserved it, because that was what she essentially was. Without the Drakenhardts she would be alone, and though Ava hadn't liked her situation but she had grown accustomed and maybe even liked the ridiculously huge family. Though it would require a million crowbars to get that out of her yet.
And Ysolda had hit it right where it hurt, what she worried over, what she didn't like about this situation. Ava wasn't one to wallow in self-pity, or feel sad, but right now she just wanted to sink in the same lake as her mom had, so she wouldn't have to feel this way. Feel so...small, and pathetic.
Like a leech.
And to top it all off Ava's shoulders were burnt from yesterday when she had heated up and ended up having to shift and rage it out. It had helped a bit, and Shiro had been there afterwards, but in any case the burns stung.

Ava was walking home and scratching her head, wondering when she'd hear back from the shit with Alex. Hell, was she gonna get kicked out of the clan for that? Ava had been mentally prepared for serious consequences but in the end she didn't have that much idea on how any of this clan stuff worked. The basics had been explained to her but maybe the casual atmosphere between the members had gotten to her. Besides, Ava was so used to handling her own shit on her own. She hadn't had any idea denying help would end up pissing Alex off so much. Well, at least now she knew.
Ava would have to fight Ysolda one of these days.
Ava was walking slowly on purpose but eventually she ended up at Titus' house, her home for now. She dragged herself to the door and opened it, cringing a bit. She had a bad feeling about this.
Ava went inside and took a breath in and out. Though she was sure Titus had heard the door or smelled her Ava yelled out anyway.
"I'm back!"

Titus had more or less just gotten off the phone with Alex when Ava got home. He sounded beat, probably worn out from dealing with... well everything. Ava getting snippy with him definitely didn't help that at all. In general, being a teenager was just rough. He wasn't really mad, just concerned for her.
Then there was the other news he still had to drop on her. He wasn't looking forward to this any more that she was. Maybe even less so. It was time to just get it over with. Fortunately Orsick was out with his friends, and wouldn't be home for some time.

"Hey, I'm in the living room," he called back. The dragon was just sitting in his chair, looking about as relaxed as one could be upon getting the news he'd gotten.

Ava grimaced just a bit when Titus sounded back that he was in the living room. That probably meant he wanted Ava to go there too. Her legs felt heavier than usual when she took her shoes off and basically dragged herself to the living room, where Titus was lounging in the chair he seemed to favour. Ava didn't sit down, she remained standing some ways in front of Titus and though she wanted to fidget Ava denied her body that urge. Instead she put her hands in her pockets and looked Titus straight in the eyes.
"So, how badly did I mess up?"

Titus sat up straighter when Ava came in. She didn't take a seat, of course she didn't. He sighed, studying her. This was definitely a teenager reaction, she knew he knew. He considered his words before gesturing for her to take a seat.

"I mean, you're not getting kicked out or anything. Alex is... he just needs time to cool off. I'm just worried about you. I mean... " he paused and considered his words. "What even happened?"

Ava allowed herseld one fidget when Titus gestured for her to sit, and she did. Ava was feeling on edge, but not exactly pissy. And she knew Titus probably wasn't in a mood to mess around either and there was no use in the two of them turning the house into a sauna.
Ava sat down on the couch, where Titus could still see her without changing position, and made a slight face when Titus explained about Alex.
"Shit, I knew I messed up bad..."
Ava muttered and sighed a bit. She had already known it but when someone actually said it to her face it felt more real.
Ava wanted to squirm again, when Titus asked what had actually happened. Ava kinda wanted to avoid answering the question, but that was only temporarily avoiding the inevitable. So she shrugged a bit and began explaining.
"We were talking about Gwyn and I mentioned he kinda pisses me off, like many people do. And Alex wanted to know why and I mentioned he came up with a nickname I don't like that much. One of my friends uses it, to poke at me. You know, tease. And I mentioned that too, but didn't mention that it was a friend that did it. I was pissed off too, there was this asshole that-, you know what, nevermind. Anyway, Alex probably thought I was being bullied or something and wanted to know who called me by that nickname. And I told him it was my business."
During the last sentence Ava, who had been looking at Titus during the whole thing, averted her gaze a bit.

Titus adjusted himself so he was sitting in a more attentive position for Ava. Nodding along, this problem probably felt like a giant mountain, but that was just an effect of being in the proverbial hot seat, and a teenager.

"Sheesh," he sighed. Now he understood why Alex was so mad. The matter of the teasing was the smaller problem, wrapped in this... he wasn't even sure what to call it. He was still wondering what was so bad that it warranted this level of secrecy. Gwyn poked fun sure, but never anything intentionally damaging.

"Well starting from the top, Alex isn't as terrible as you kids seem to think he is. Like you're not getting banished or anything over this, like holy shit. Alex just hates infighting. We're a family and if there's any sort of conflict from within he likes to resolve it quickly. It was less what you said, and more how you said it.
I guess you're still adjusting to all of this. I know none of this is even a remotely ideal situation for you, I just figured it would be better for you to have people to fall back on. You're not alone you know."

Titus considered what he'd say to her next. He didn't like the idea of someone just using whatever this insult was all willy nilly. Even if it was petty, it was still the principal of the matter.

"You know you can go up to Gwyn and just talk to him right? You can't get anywhere if you don't talk to us. Your friend sounds like an asshole if it's a name you really dislike. Like if they can't respect you enough to cut that shit out, then they're not worth keeping as a friend. What even was the name?"

Ava frowned a bit when Titus explained why Alex had blown up because of this. She was confused because one, she didn't think Alex was that awful and two, infighting wasn't a thing you did? Ava and her mom had fought all the time and it never actually hurt their relationship, only made it stronger. Ava thought it was normal to fight within...family, or whatever the Drakenhardts were to her. Suppose big clans were different.
Everything was different.
"It's not that I think Alex is terrible or anything... And I don't know how this clan business works, what warrants for banishment and what doesn't. I mean, what...family is, and what clan is are whole different concepts in my head that don't fit together."

When Titus called her friend an asshole Ava glared at him for a second, but wiped the look from her face soon enough. Better not piss off Titus too, though she really wanted to.
"I'm not that bad of a judge of character I'd keep an asshole as my friend. Hell, I call them with a teasing nickname too, that's our thing. I haven't let on that it bothers me as much as it does, if I asked they'd stop. But I'm not whiny. And it happened ages ago, no use in talking to Gwyn about. Besides, I call him bird of prey too."
As for the name, Ava grumbled a bit and wanted to tell Titus to mind his own business. But those words had started this whole mess so Ava groaned and muttered.
"Kiwi...'cos I can't fly though I got wings..."

"Clan is family, there's no special protocol. There's really not that much difference. Alex is just the head of our family. We help each other out when we see someone struggling. We share our triumphs and our losses because good families support each other. So when we see problems it's normal to want to fix them. Like seriously, don't push us out."

"Kiwi..." he repeated the word and just gave her a look. All this fuss over that. He'd heard Ava being just as snarky with her name calling on her own. And now she acted like wanted to just drop it all. Was this a teenager thing? This felt like a teenager thing. "Ava, this is going to sound harsh but this is coming from a place of love. I have heard you banter, I know what you call people. You have a snarky nickname on that level for everyone you've met. Don't dish it out if you can't take it."

Ava looked down when Titus told her not to push them out, kinda feeling a bit guilty. But it wasn't that easy.
"I'm trying, Titus. Seriously, I am."

Ava knew what Titus was thinking about the nickname even before he spoke. Ava had overreacted, it wasn't a big deal, she had much worse nicknames for people. And she couldn't say anything back. Hell, she agreed. Ava groaned and swiped her hand through her hair.
"Look, I know that nickname was blown out of proportion. I don't even care that much. I was just pissy 'cos that one guy called me orphan Annie and Ysolda calling me a leech didn't help. I myself know I got a short temper."
Just repeating those two names made Ava feel pissy again and her temperature rose just a bit. Not enough to be noticeable.

"I know all about that, trust me. The short temper stuff I mean," he sighed and looked a little nostalgic as he thought about all the times he'd blown up, sometimes literally on people. "I'll tell you some embarrassing stories sometime. And I'll help you learn to keep it in check, we all have that point."

Titus swallowed and looked like he was debating something with himself. "There is one other thing that's not really related to what happened today. That was actually what I wanted to talk to you about before Alex called."
