Eve was a bit frazzled. Delighted, but frazzled.
He had his running outfit on, simple black t-shirt and running shorts, also black, and on his feet were running shoes the same colour as his eyes, red and blue. Eve had started running with normal clothes when he had been 14 but had noticed that it was much comfier if you actually used clothes designed for running. Sweat or not. Eve had his hair loose because no matter what he tried Eve could not get it to behave. And then, of course, he had his belt with pouches big enough for a small water bottle and, no surprise here, small sketchbook. Eve had had a long internal debate whether to take it or not but, after all, he was an artist. And the sketchbook was the only thing able to keep him calm if he got emotionally unstable. It rarely happened, almost never nowadays, but you could never be too sure. After all, this was the first time Eve was going running with someone else. He was a bit scared, which was also rare for him.

Eve was walking along a trail near the edge of the woods, approaching the place he and Jake had agreed to meet. Yes, Jake. A fellow running enthusiast, who had seemed quite nice when Eve had met him in a, well, tense situation. Eve was a bit worried. Eve really liked running but he was afraid it was for different reasons than Jake. He seemed like the jock type, who enjoyed sports for the sweat and adrenaline, though Eve was not one to draw conclusions lightly.
Eve just liked the feeling of running, your sweet hitting the ground, breath getting short and the wind in your hair. He really appreciated Jake's offer to go running but Eve was afraid the boy would be disappointed. After all, Eve was just, well, Eve. Expressionless and plain in all other ways except looks.

Eve liked Natasha, his new friend, partly because she was an empath. Eve didn't have to force his facial expressions with her because she knew how Eve felt. Sometimes Eve hoped everyone could do it. Then he wouldn't have to change.
But the world wasn't fair and Eve had to at least try. Because he had liked Jake, and wanted to try knowing him.
Eve turned to right in a fork on the trail and saw Jake. He brought a small but genuine smile on his face, it was the best Eve could manage, and waved.

Jake was already waiting, sat with his back against a tree. He didn't sleep much due to the dreams so he often went for a run early in the morning. However, on this occasion, he was waiting for someone else to join him. There was the odd time that he would run with members of his pack but Jake kindly invited a guy who he had known for little more than an hour. It was unlike him to willingly go out with the intention of having the company with a stranger yet things were different now; the world had changed around him and it was about time that he changed too.

The morning sunlight streaked across the skyline like molten amber, with flares of orange and red. It was a fairly pleasant morning yet the morning mist clung to the branches of the trees. Jake had thrown on a light blue t-shirt and black shorts - great for running in. His shoes: not so much. The shabby grey trainers were peppered with dirt and the odd hole here and there. From time to time, Jake even loved to ditch the shoes and just run barefoot, a great feeling that he would later regret. The rush of the run and the freedom exhilarated him like he was unstoppable. There was something about running that just felt so natural.

Back home (his old home), Jake was a member of a track team. Before the wolf emerged, he just thought he had a talent when it came to it, since he would win every race, much to the displeasure of his classmates. Though, after finding out why he had such an advantage, he quit, feeling as though it was cheating, in a way.

Seeing Eve wander over to him, Jake got up and brushed himself off. "Morning," he greeted with a smile. "You actually came! Not that I think you're the type of person to not turn up I just..." Shut up, Jake, He thought to himself. Like always, he began to ramble, trying not to offend the other person. "Anyway..." His gaze wandered.

Jake looked like he belonged there, in the forest on a misty morning. With the sunlight filtering through the branches behind him Eve wanted to sketch him, but held himself back. Now was definitely not the time for that. Even if Jake's smile looked quite nice. Artistically speaking, of course.
"Good morning Jake."
Eve answered and smiled a bit when Jake said he thought Eve would've stood him up. It made Jake seem more human to ramble and Eve relaxed some. As usual, in the actual social situation his fear dissipated, or at least some of it. But it stayed at the background, gnawing.
"Don't worry, I had similar fears."
Eve said as he shook his head, and looked at Jake feeling empathetic. It was good to know Eve wasn't the only nervous one. Or at least Eve thought Jake was nervous. He wasn't sure.
"I got to admit, this is my first time running with anyone else. I don't have a lot of friends. Not that I'm insinuating that I'd have the gall to call you a friend yet. Sorry."
Eve sighed a bit, now he was rambling. Why did he feel so nervous? Normally he had no problem chatting up strangers to ask for a sketch. Well, now he didn't have his shield, the sketchbook, so Eve felt a bit bare.
"Anyway..."
Eve said and chuckled, stepping aside a bit and gesturing to the trail.
"Shall we go?"
As Jake would begin running Eve would follow behind him at any pace he set.

Laughter escaped Jake's mouth as Eve also rambled. There was something comforting that this other person displayed a similar trait to him. Though, once the laughter faded, he was less so. One thing that Jake was never sure about was what to do with his hands. It seemed like a ridiculous thing but he felt awkward with his arms by his sides. This meant that he would often switch between crossing his arms and shoving them into his pockets.

"Yeah, sure," he replied. Not entirely sure about how fast Eve could run, Jake thought it best to start off slower (though, that was still fairly quick paced). He thought he should assess his capabilities before speeding off. When Jake would go for a run, he wouldn't often push his limits, usually just at a leisurely pace for him, but the odd time he would try and beat his time. It was a sort of ambition to eventually become faster. His speed was nothing compared to some of the other inhabitants of the island. In fact, he was one of the slowest in the pack.

Eve mentioned that he enjoyed running when the two first encountered one another. "So, do you do this sort of thing often?" Jake asked in between the occasional tree trunk separating the two.

Eve ran after Jake and noted that the pace wasn't too fast. When Eve ran he usually was out of it and quickly ran himself to the exhaustion. Maybe it was good that for once there was someone else with him so Eve could keep his pace in check.

But as they ran along the path Eve's mind started to wander and his gaze as well. Right off the bat he saw many sketch-worthy sights, like the bark of a pine against the morning sun or a rock covered in moss still moist with dew. Few times Eve slowed a bit only to remember Jake and catch up with him. Which was a good thing since Jake started talking to him after a while, asking a question that reminded Eve of a line some guy had used on him once. It almost made Eve chuckle but he held himself back yet again, not wanting to offend Jake.

"I have run ever since I was 14 and new to this island. I try to do it at least 5 times a week but often end up doing it every day. Sometimes I come here at night, and light the way with my fire. It's pretty relaxing."

Eve said and realized he was talking pretty much. It was not like Eve was particularly silent or anything but he usually held back his words as not to bother or offend anyone. But as Eve now talked about running he let his mind wander and, without noticing, quickened his pace, ending up going little ahead of Jake.

Jake's attention drifted as he listened to Eve talk. The breeze ran it's fingers through his hair; the ensemble of smells of nature culminated, filling his nose. It was the best feeling. A fallen tree blocked Jake's path but he simply leapt over it with ease, possibly trying to show off a little. "That sounds awesome," he replied in response to the image of flames dancing with the backdrop of the woodlands and darkness.

Jake didn't realise that during their conversation, Eve had begun to overtake him. Taking this as a sign to quicken the pace, Jake sped up to keep on par with him, dodging branches and outgrowing roots. The thrill of running quickened his heart rate and brought back flashes of a vision he had had not too long ago. An image of blood oozing across the floor quickly came into his mind. Then another. And another. Unbeknownst to him, Jake ran even faster. He had totally forgotten about the other person with him. The flash of the man with silver wings, a beam of light shining down.

Snap! Jake was quickly brought back to reality as he ran face first into a low hanging branch, splintering it from the trunk and his body landing on the ground. "Shit!" he yelled as he held his forehead. Visions of those dreams still haunted him, even though Soren had reassured him. Seconds later, the embarrassment set in as he began to laugh at himself. He stood up, dusted himself off and acted as if the whole thing didn't happen.

Eve watched Jake leap over a fallen tree and was indeed impressed. Eve was strong physically but wasn't near as athletic as Jake.
"It is pretty awesome, actually."
Eve answered and felt little refreshed for using a word he nearly never normally used.

Eve noticed his quickened pace and started to slow down just when he noticed Jake had caught up with him, was going even faster actually. Eve quickened his pace in turn and was starting to wonder if Jake meant to make this a race. But there was a look in Jake's eyes that made Eve a little unsettled. It reminded Eve of himself when he was having flashbacks of...the incident. But it was somehow different. Eve ran closer to Jake and looked at him with worry while watching for roots and branches himself. Eve noticed the branch before Jake.

"Jake, watch- !"
Too late. Jake ran into the branch and the sound made Eve grimace slightly. It sounded so painful. And Jake's exclaim confirmed that belief. Eve stopped abruptly and jogged back to Jake. He was already laughing at himself but Eve guessed he was embarrassed. In turn Eve was worried. The look in Jake's eyes had been too familiar to Eve. He looked at Jake and tilted his head slightly.
"Are you okay? That sounded, and looks, like it hurt. If you want I can cool down your forehead. I can make my fire cold too."

Th pain ringed in his head but Jake had endured worse. Pushing the memories to the very back of his mind again, a smile came across his face. Jake found it quite easy to compartmentalise his emotions, bottling them away. He found it easier that way. It gave him thicker skin and he needed it. Pain, sadness; some hide away to keep it unknown to others, some hide behind a smile.

He laughed again as he looked at the expression on Eve's face. "I'm fine. Honestly. Got a thick skull," he mentioned as a finger pointed to his head. It was true that Jake was tougher than the average human. Being a werewolf enhanced his strength in more ways than one.

"You can do that?" It seemed like a strange concept that fire could be cold. After a second of thought, he replied. "No, it's fine... Thank you anyway." His back turned to Eve as he began to wander off into the thicket again, hoping to avoid any more embarrassment. "So, are you a pyrokinetic?" he asked, changing the subject.

"Even if you have a thick skull it doesn't make it any less painful."
Eve said quietly but Jake probably couldn't hear him since he was already wondering about Eve's powers, only to refuse his help right after. Eve wasn't offended, since he had guessed Jake was too embarrassed and proud to accept help from a stranger. So Eve just followed Jake, staying close enough to help him if he felt dizzy.

"No, I'm not pyrokinetic. Not exactly, I'm a hybrid between a phoenix and an ifrit, with some sun god thrown in. Basically a bunch of fire based creatures."
Eve answered Jake's question, shrugging. He felt a bit bad about talking about himself when Jake seemed bothered by something. But Eve knew people had troubles they couldn't share with just anyone. Eve had those kinds of troubles too.

"How about you? What are you? If it's okay that I ask."
Eve asked in turn, trying to keep the conversation rolling. But then Eve saw something and stopped dead on his tracks. He instantly drew out his sketchbook and a small pencil. There was a bird on a branch near them, and it's feathers were blue and white. Eve couldn't name it but right then and there he didn't care. The light hit the bird in just the right angle, making the feathers have just a small hue of green and red. Eve started sketching lightning fast and for a second there was nothing else except him, his sketchbook and the bird. Eve didn't know how long he kept sketching but when he was satisfied he closed his sketchbook, sighing contently.

And then he remembered Jake.
Eve slowly turned to look at Jake, embarrassed. It probably didn't show on his face but his mind was a big hot mess of embarrassment, shame and concern.
"Sorry..about that. There was...a bird.."
Eve said and pointed to the branch. But the bird was gone and Eve wanted to run away.

Jake had no idea what an ifrit was but he presumed that it was in the same fire-related boat as the other aforementioned species. "Wow! You've got some fancy genes there. How are you a cross between three different races?" The more he learnt about Eve, the more amazed he was. Fire for a soul, cold flames and a god-like crossbreed.

"I'm a werewolf. Pretty boring actually since there are loads of us. I can also feel emotions so I have that going for me, I guess. Oh, and I can dream the future," he added as if it were an afterthought. He loved his powers yet the dreaming was not something that he would consider a gift.

Jake began to quicken to a jog whilst he spoke before realising that Eve was no longer with him. Turning back, he saw his running partner scribbling in a book. When they first met, Jake had learnt that he was an avid artist and the drawings he had seen were very good. However, it appeared as though he was in a daze as he doodled.

Cupping his mouth, Jake yelled: "Earth to Eve!" He watched as the guy finished the detail and turned back to him. "You okay? You were gone there for a minute," he laughed. "It's fine. Don't worry about it." Looking to where Eve's finger was outstretched to, Jake couldn't help but laugh even more as the bird was nowhere to be seen. "Come on." He began to make his way through the thicket again. "Off to see more imaginary birds!" he joked in a dramatic voice, his arm raised into the air.
