James let out a nervous chuckle. "He, uhh.." James tried to think of the best way to explain things between him and Liun without somehow making this all worse for himself. "He's a firefighter. We've met a few times.. He actually did a fire safety thing not that long ago."

Taking a drink of the water jug he'd brought, since it didn't look like he'd need it now, he'd turn his gaze towards the ground. "We've run into each other a few times. If I get sent his way he's probably gonna tear me a new one." James said, not looking forward to the meeting.

Malina stopped writing for a moment and looked at him.

Then, she sighed.

"Listen. I'm willing to stick my neck out and make sure you get a second chance here. That's because you weren't caught totally without a plan to stop a forest fire. Granted, that plan of yours had a lot of holes in it, but you put some thought and effort in. I have respect for that. You've earned partial credit."

As she spoke, some sort of hoverbike silently made its way down through a gap in the firest canopy. When it landed, Malina took a few steps over to lean against it. She kept talking.

"Next time, though? No partial credit. You're going to study what they teach you and you follow it to the letter. Are we clear?"

James winced a little at that. The message was crystal clear, don't do this again. "Yeah, I gotcha. And this is the last you'll see of me, trust me."

His eyes would widen a little as the hoverbike arrived. "Wait a minute, is that an off-road hoverbike? Holy shit." He muttered, looking it over. He'd seen a few around the island, but one that could make its way through the woods was definitely interesting.
