It had been a simple letter with multiple pages of paperwork involved. Without Asteria to guide them on everything, it had taken much longer for Ezra to complete everything needed. They did not know where their guardian had kept most of the important files and had to search through many files before finding the one with the correct paperwork. Now all they had to do was find the registration office and turn the paperwork in and they could begin their school semester in earnest. Ezra couldn't help but feel strange as they walked through the campus with their own two feet. The last time they were here, they had been utilizing Salem to get around safely. Their power had been too dangerous and uncontrollable, so this was the only option for them.

Things had changed.

Their six month journey had been both a failure yet a success and they now had much better control over their powers. It wasn't perfect, but it wasn't likely to go out of control anymore. Pulling themselves out of their thoughts, Ezra realized that they had gotten themselves lost in the courtyard of the school. There were multiple buildings around and the Sho'lai didn't have time to check them all. Quickly spotting a nearby person, they quickly made their way up to them while adjusting their hold on the folder in their arms.

"Pardon me, but would you happen to know where the registration office is currently located? I am supposed to deliver these files there by today and have seemed to have gotten lost."

"Not quite. I attended the school previously but had to leave due to personal issues. My paperwork had been handled by my guardian when I last attended so I am unaware of where the registrars are located. With my guardian currently off-island, I am the one required to turn in said paperwork."

Ezra followed along, eyes scanning the various trees and plant life in the courtyard. It was rather devoid of people at the moment, which was a bit confusing for the Sho'lai. Shouldn't more people be around? At the questioning of their name, Ezra perked up again.

"Ah yes, apologies. My name is Ezra Vrall. I should have introduced myself before asking you to escort me. Forgive me for my rudeness. May I inquire of your name as well?"

Ezra would stare blankly as the girl- no wait, Shiro,- would grab hold of their clothing and begin to shake them. Shiro was Tadashi's sibling, if Ezra remembered correctly. They had met maybe once or twice in the community center and had been... cordial? It seemed so long ago. According to Shiro's words, Tadashi's heart was broken. Broken by Ezra, no less. They were confused by this revelation. How did Ezra's leaving cause Tadashi's blood pumping organ to fail? Was it some unknown side effect of the Sho'lai? They had never heard of such an instance happening, but they were lacking in so much information.

"I am surprised to hear that Tadashi's organs suffered sudden failure. I do not understand how it was my responsibility? Or is this some phrase that I am not comprehending?" Ezra would use one hand to slowly try and push Shiro's grip off of their shirt while using the other to tightly hold onto the paperwork. Can't have that flying away now, can we?

"And contact was... troublesome during my time away from the island. Many things happened, things I could not begin to describe or would want to. I have learned and lost much, Miss Shiro. Also, I do not understand the need for constant contact. There are times where my guardian would go without contacting her employers and other acquaintances for months, if not years at a time but they do not act so negatively upon her return. Why are you attempting to be so hostile to me?"

Ezra would continue to stare, trying to figure out what Shiro meant. People could be hurt emotionally from lack of contact? It was an odd similarity to their own people. The Sho'lai needed the emotional connections to live; perhaps it was a similar need for society in general? A curious endeavor that would have to be explored at a later time. For now, they had to address Shiro's outburst.

"I was unaware that my departure would hurt Tadashi so. I have only returned to the island yesterday so I have not had the chance to reach out and contact anyone beyond the school for the proper paperwork procedure. Based on this current information, it would probably be necessary to contact Tadashi to clear up any negative feelings."

They paused for a moment, then frowned slightly. "Also, I did not actively seek you out for assistance. I needed instruction and you were in the area. It was not an intentional harassment on my part so please try to not aim unneeded hostility towards me. I do not wish for it and it is unneeded stress for both of us."

Ezra followed behind without saying anything for a long moment. Apparently, the use of Salem gave off the idea that the Sho'lai was very formal and unaware but it had turned out that Ezra was always that unaware of social cues. They had thought they were improving, but that didn't seem to be the case.

"...How does one apologize for such transgressions? I do not have the faintest idea of what is an appropriate action to take. Simply saying 'sorry' cannot be enough if I have hurt Tadashi as horrible as you have said. Should I provide some sort of compensation? If actions and words are not enough, I do not know what more I can offer. Emotional situations are... complicated."

They stopped walking and stared ahead with a clearly uncomfortable expression. "Miss Shiro... what do I do?"
