Lunch was great today. Another thing to add to his list of treats for all he had accomplished on the island. After Konpeitō was hired for a solid-paying job, he had taken every excuse to spoil himself. It wasn't like he was going to be strained on money now. Spending a bit of money here and there wouldn't be anything too bad. He just had to stay smart about it.

After cleaning up what he could at his table and paying for his meal, he went to exit the restaurant. As he left, he found his eyes drawn to one of the waitresses leaving. While he ate he found himself looking at her once in a while. She looked familiar. He was pretty sure he saw her at school a few times. He wouldn't have been surprised if she was one of the people who encouraged him to give himself furry hands and feet. It was certainly a cute look.

Once he was sure she was available, he approached her with a hearty, "Hi there! I think I recognize you from school. Ah, I should introduce myself. I'm Konpeitō Hatsu. I used to go to the school a few months back."

Another day of work was finally at its end. With an audible sigh that slightly echoed through the changing room, Kuro somewhat sluggishly got the waitress uniform off of her body and retrieved what could only be described as yet another uniform from her personal locker. She went to work here right after her lectures ended, so she never quite had the time to change into anything more fitting.

Not that it mattered much to her. As a college student, she finally had the freedom to actually wear whatever she wanted. Though, funny enough, she grew so accustomed to the mandatory uniform that she kept it, albeit with some notable changes like different colors and removed school emblem. Finally getting out of the door, she took in the fresh air and stretched a bit. Still a good bit of time left in the day, so she had to decided what she wanted to do next.

Though her train of thought was quickly interrupted by a sudden voice coming from roughly behind her, making a good portion of her hair stand straight up in shock. Reactively, her body turned around sharply and assumed a defensive stance, as if she was in the ring and ready to defend against incoming blows. So the surprise of seeing someone like that in front of her was all the greater. “What the- are ya some kinda creep, sneaking up on girls?!

It seemed that the sudden approach made her a bit late on processing the introduction and spouting out words before her brain even had the time to think about them.

Kon found himself mostly unphased by the sudden reaction of the girl. Of course, he backed up and was prepared to dodge if he needed to. It's just that his expression didn't change from being friendly. All that changed were his eyebrows raising up and his mouth making an "O" shape.

To show he meant no harm, he laughed sheepishly and rubbed the back of his neck. "Scaring you was not my intention. But in all fairness, we're in public, I was a customer in the restaurant, I called out to you without getting too close, and I introduced myself. I think I'm in the clear, here."

Watching as the stranger backed up and didn’t make any sudden or threatening movements for few more seconds, Kuro calmed down a little bit and relaxed her body as much as she could. Though getting the fur on her hands and legs into a more reasonable state would have required a bit more maintenance after that experience.

Right… what wassit, Konketo Hazu? Uh… sound kinda familiar… though…” Her fiery optics would dart all over the man erratically as if looking for any good anchor point, but giving up eventually. “I think I would’ve remembered someone so… colorful?” She didn’t know how else to describe, but she did not recall seeing anyone with more colors on them than this person in her entire life.

Although there was clearly some form of intrigue by the unusual form, mostly conveyed by the girl’s tail wildly swinging from side to side behind her, almost cleaning up the streets of any dust that might have been there instead of a broom.

Looks like his plan worked. The girl backed off and calmed down, letting them start a normal conversation.

"Konpeitō Hatsu," he corrected. "Kon for short. You might be more familiar with when I was Sprinkles. Or you just never knew me well at all. I was pretty colorful as Sprinkles." He let out a chuckle as he held his arms behind his back. "I was only at the school for a couple of months. I only remembered you because of your paw-limbs. It was something I ended up adding to myself after I saw others with it."

Kon, right… wait, Sprinkles? That ain’t no name, right?!” Suffice to say, this person was a rather puzzling existence for Kuro who, despite already living on this island for years, mostly kept to herself and her somewhat bleak view on the world in both metaphorical and literal sense.

Thankfully there was a different topic to focus on as well, as she just could not wrap her head around the possibility that Sprinkles was a real name. Which she did not even know whether it really was a real name or not. Raising her hands and opening her palms into a squeeze-like motion, she quickly revealed the pink pads lightly sticking out among all of that fur.

Ya talking about these, right? Wait, adding them? Ya some kinda cyborg? These are the real deal, nothing fake about them! A superior quality, I’ll have ya know!” When it came down to her body, Kuro was quite proud of her looks and structure. Especially given how much time she sacrificed in order to get herself to look like this. Though most of that work was currently hidden beneath her clothes.

Kon just let out another laugh. "It's not the weirdest name I've heard around here. It's certainly not a normal name in the Narrow Reality, but the name was chosen for me so it would stand out. But to be fair, Konpeitō is not a normal name either. It's a kind of Japanese candy," he explained. At first, he would be frustrated with how people treated his name while hiding behind a cool demeanor. Now he enjoyed the puzzled expressions of people.

"Anyways, yes. And no, I'm not a cyborg. I'm a shape-shifter. I was made to be a cat-person, but I wanted to give myself more qualities of one. So these are the real deal as well." He wiggled his paws in front of his face to show them off to the girl.

"By the way, you haven't introduced yourself yet."

Crossing her arms over her chest, the girl listened to everything Kon had to say. And surprisingly, there was one bit that she even reacted to. “Japanese… huh, so it really was. I suppose it did sounds kinda familiar…” She muttered this mostly to herself, as a distant memory was quickly forced into the front of her thoughts.

But while she possessed some knowledge of the foreign language, she could never claim that she was able to properly understand it, thus curbing anything else she could possibly add to that. When he mentioned his shape-shifter qualities, the girl would instead sigh lightly. “A changer, huh? Eh, I can’t keep up with folk like you. Meeting the same person for the first time twice’s embarrassing as is!

Scratching her head gently with one of those clawed hands, she might have displayed one of her problems a little too carelessly. Although it might have been for the best, given how she could potentially avoid not recognizing Kon if he were to ever change in any significant way. “And haven’t introduced? I thought ya knew exactly who I was, that’s why you approached! Err… it’s Kurome Kuroko. Happy?

Kurome Kuroko, huh? That made Kon wonder why she didn't link the origins of his name immediately. It was probably not something to think too deeply about. Her parents could've given her a Japanese name when she specifically wasn't born in Japan. She could've chosen the name but not known the culture well. She could've simply been the type to not are about candy.

"I am, yes! And, ahaha, yeah, I suppose that is the impression I gave off. I genuinely just remember seeing you here and there at school and decided to start up a conversation." Was that weird? He didn't think so. If he recognized a person, there should be nothing wrong about conversing with them if they seemed available. This island was open enough for that type of thing.

"And don't worry, I don't change up my appearance as much anymore. Back in school, I was a lot more, well, female and pink. Nowadays, the only other very different form I use is when I'm at work."

Shifting her position to one where the girl rested her hands on her hips, her gaze at Kon became a little bit sharper. “See, that’s why yer changin’ powers are so annoying! How’d ya expect me to remember or recognize ya when ya supposedly looked completely different!

The girl was glad she could remember the people who were going to the same lectures as her. Anyone outside of that small circle was just a tad bit too much for her to remember if she was not meeting with them on a regular basis. Which was not the case for anyone, really, given the girl’s little problem.

But anyhow, what’s the conversation about then? I mean, ya said that it was fine to just start a conversation outta the blue, but there’s gotta be some reason why talk to me of all the people, right?” It was not quite that she wasn’t happy with this situation. Instead, there was a bit of a fear swelling up under the facade she tried to keep up.
