Kon ended up laughing at Kurome's frustration. People getting confused over who he was made shape-shifting a little more fun. It sated his trickster aspect in a harmless way.

"Umm... Nothing!" he replied without a hint of shame. "I was in the mood to chat, saw a familiar face who looked about my age, and went 'Hey, why not?' If you don't want to keep talking, that's fine by me. I've noticed you've been on the defense... Is it because I'm a cat? Don't worry. I'm harmless." As if to disprove his point, he gave a toothy grin that showed off his sharp canines.

Having her own pride of sorts, Kuro definitely went on the defensive when she was called out like that. Perhaps it was the sheer lack of social interactions over the past few years, but it was obvious that sometimes she just had absolutely zero ideas how to respond to people, or how to take certain things.

So instead of doing something sensible, she had just pointed a finger at Kon and showed her own fangs, one of them a bit longer than the other. Not to mention the claws on her furred hands as well. “What are ya talking about! I have no need to be defensive ‘cause I could take someone like down real easy! But it’s definitely weird for someone to approach me just like that! Ya want to die or somethin-

As if she had suddenly realized what she said, the girl immediately shut up and retreated her extended hand to just sorta awkwardly let it be next to her body. But something definitely hit her, even her eyes seemed slightly glossed over in a way similar to someone who was just about to cry.

This was
This was awful. Kurome was terrible at hiding her true feelings. So terrible that Konpeitō's sadism was growing by the second. He wanted to continue teasing her. To poke at her buttons and see how else he could make this girl squirm.

But he was better than that.

"Been there, done that. I have no need to die again... unless you're into that sort of thing." He winked playfully at Kurome. Realizing that that was technically teasing with the intent of either getting laid or making the girl uncomfortable, he quickly moved on like he didn't say anything. "But you're right, I did randomly approach you, and that is pretty weird. Would you like me to leave? I honestly did not mean to scare you or anything. I'm actually pretty new to this whole 'socializing with other people' thing. My attempts at being friendly and playful can end up weird and mean."

Naturally, having a response like that would make plenty of people who were not quite acquainted with death or stood at one very specific end of it question the other person’s sanity. In Kuro’s case, there was also a questioning look tossed in Kon’s vague direction. It felt like he was making less and less sense.

The more he talked, the mode the girl didn’t know what to say. Her forehead might have even glistened a bit at this point with sweat. “Oi, oi, yer running from one side to another way too quickly! I mean, yeah… it’s real weird that ya would just approach me like that. That’s why I’ve no clue how to respond.

Scratching the back of her head, she looked around. Seemed that the area was still as empty as a graveyard on a busy day. “Sayin’ things like ya wanted to just talk to me and then reverting to wanting to leave, it makes it super awkward! I’ve no idea what I’m even supposed to say or talk about!

Kon was genuinely wondered that his lack of empathy was making him worry Kurome more than he intended. As the days went on, he began to realize how difficult it was to understand people's emotions and how to properly respond to them. He was much worse off now than a few months ago.

"Am I?" He forced back a smirk on his face. He was certain that if he laughed now, Kurome would actually burst into tears. "How about this? As an apology but not me running away, wanna go to a café nearby? It's really good and has the cutest pastries. Then we can have a normal-person conversation. How about it?"

The girl could only sigh, feeling as if there was an entire stone boulder trying to crush her beneath its weight. Was this the first time she had to deal with someone so… unpredictable? Strange? She was unable to even find the right word to describe Kon, but that was par for the course with her verbal skills.

But at least it all ended with a somewhat acceptable offer. Gently scratching one of her furry ears while listening, the black dog would think it over in her head and grin ever so slightly. “Yeah, I’ve no reason to not let someone pay for treats that are gonna end in my tummy!

She didn’t care about things that were cute and such. And honestly, most probably saw her as one of those edgy and deep teenagers due to her color scheme and piercing in one of the dog ears. Or maybe the people on this island were more open-minded than that? She had no idea, but she did have a bit of warning for Kon. “Lead da way. But if I see yer leadin’ me to a white van, I will claw yer face beyond recognizin’!

Goodness, was he really so tiring? Sure, he was energetic, talked for long periods of time, and moved from topic to topic at a heartbeat, but he wasn't that difficult to keep up with.

Returning to his playful personality, he held both of his hands up and faked a surprised expression. "Woah there! When did I say I'd be paying. I'm only granting you the great opportunity to accompany me to a café. And no need to worry about any white vans. I much prefer older men."

The girl would cross her arms at her chest again, glaring at the man in front of her and his overly… expressive expressions? “That so..? Ya did label it as an ‘apology’ so it only makes sense, right? ‘Sides, ya decided to take up lotsa my time! Feels only fair that you would make up for dat time by buyin’ me sweets!

Slowly turning her head to the side and closing one of her eyes while keeping a look on him with the other, the girl attempted to replicate something she saw in the television while also applying the good old saying of ‘time is money’.

And, well, she was certainly not someone who would give up the chance to get free snacks if she could help it at all. At the end of the day, she was the one who had to juggle part-time job and college lectures just to get by. She had some savings, but not enough to just toss around, either.

Kon tried to keep up the look of being his surprised and somewhat offended... Then he fell into a laughter fit. "I'm joking! I'll totally buy you something. It's not an expensive place anyways. I'm not that stingy." He certainly was, but Kurome stood up for herself and he wasn't going to argue with that.

"You know, it's hard to not be entertained by you. I like that you didn't back down. Good on you." Was that insulting? Kon could see it being taken that way, but he genuinely did find Kurome entertaining. In the sense that she was exaggerated in the complete opposite way he was.

With that semi-compliment, Konpeitō twirled around once until he turned completely around. Then, he began walking, expecting Kurome to keep up with him as he led the way to the café.

At least they had some sort of agreement that Kurome was able to get behind. It took a bit of doing, but they got somewhere. Nodding to the man with a satisfied smirk on her face as if she had just won some sort of competition. Well, at least until has other words.

What in damnation do ya mean by that? And 'course, only a coward and a weakling would stand down in that kinda situation. I ain’t none of those!” She didn’t fully understand what he meant when he said she was entertaining, so she just took it as a compliment that her presence is so good that no one could possibly be bored with her around.

And since she already accepted Kon’s rather odd nature, she just sighed as his twirl and followed behind, her head sliding over the bag that hung over her shoulder to make sure it didn’t feel any lighter than it was when she arrived at work. All was fine.
