Rory rose an eyebrow. Thank god for glasses that let that be seen. "I'd have guessed High School, actually, but Middle School makes sense too?"

God, he was a baby! Not that Rory could get on him about that, Janelle had been into superhero work at fourteen and she'd been on their team.

Lorelai's shoulders slumped a little. "Homeworld got eaten by... uh, well doesn't matter now." To say it was a sore point was an understatement. "So, what's got you going around and, uh, saving the day?"

Jaxon Jupiter
The comment at his school surprised him. He didn't expect to seem that old. "I guess it does."

What got him into being a superhero? Jaxon really had to think about that, and froze where he was.

Was it his birth? Being born the son of a god of justice would lead him to vigilantism. What about the existence of powers meant someone had to protect the weak? Wait, no. he had the perfect answer.

"Ahh, a few years back, when I first started at the middle school, there was this kid. He wasn't exactly Mr Popular, but the way others were treating him was not right. I stepped in to help him, but I got in trouble." He shrugged, but also nodded, looking past Rory. "At the time, it made sense, turning to vigilantism, and even now, I don't want people to be treated as badly as that boy was."

Rory was quiet but nodded at the end of his story. Protecting people. Making others happy. Those were usually the stories. "You know, you can do all that without the mask? So why the mask?"

And that question felt important, not just because Rory was asking Jaxson, but because she was asking herself too, in a more subtle fashion.

"Work toward a good job. Become a minster. A teacher. Anything that helps people. You could work toward that and help them, so why not any of those things?"

He had asked himself that, so he had already prepared an answer for her. "Because despite all these abilities I have, among everyone else here, I'm just a kid. Just plain old me."

Jaxon fiddled with his mask, tempted to take it off. Eventually, he decided not to and removed his hand. "People like us can do so much good, but We instead choose to live peaceful lives, ignoring the issues of our world."

"I could work to become someone that helps without power, but until then, I'll stay as I am." Being only a Eighth grader, He did still have a future to look forward to, but Jaxon still wanted to help everyone that he could.

It was a nice answer, the kind Rory might have given, without there remark about being only a kid. "Well, you're wrong about one thing," Rory told him. "You're not just a kid. You have ideas and thoughts and insights into things that no other person could have. You're you. And you are unique."

Kind of like everyone else. And cynical people would argue the idea that if everyone was unique then no one really could be. But that was a limiting thought.

He shrugged. Jaxon knew she was right, but to make a difference as a kid was not an easy task. "I'm myself, but I'm still a minor."

Why was she so focused on this? Being a hero herself, she had to understand his thought process. If Jaxon had to guess, he would say she was having doubts.

Rory grinned at him. "Man, if I used to think that way I would never have gotten as far as I did. 'Just a kid' is the type of shit people tell you so you feel small, so you don't hurt yourself, or take chances. And they don't mean it maliciously, but it has the effect all the same."

"Why are you telling me this?" He inquired. "Are you trying to ward me off this lifestyle, or for some other reason?" Jaxon/Fuse began floating again, just gently on his back, as if he was lying on a soft bed. She may have been a superhero where she came from, but he didn't seem to think of her as much as one now, so he was a lot more calm than earlier.

"Either way, I can do both. Help others now, and be a regular, superpower kid planning for the future. Taking chances to promote a better life and all that."

Lounging, Fuse listened out for a cry for help. Anything really that could use his help. Maybe he could prompt her to help him in it, get her to understand again.

Rory blinked at him. "I'd think it would be having the opposite effect than warding you away. But honestly, I'm not trying to do either. I'm telling you the truth. As someone who was a kid superhero in a world where superheroes were everything. I'm asking you the questions I had to ask myself and I had other people ask me."

She laughed a little. "Like, I used to say 'I'll stop when I can get into college. Like mom wants. I'll stop and I'll go to college and find a safer way to help people.' But you know what? I always knew that was a lie. I was lying to myself. I wouldn't stop. There was no better way for me to help people than how I was doing it."

Jaxon shrugged in mid-air. She did have a point. With Superheroes being in the media, there was bound to be ethical questioning.

He grinned. She did understand! "So if you hadn't come here, you would still be out saving people?"
