War had come to Manta Carlos. Not a true battle, not a true war, but War.

A part of Havoc registered that he probably shouldn't been surprised by the idea that war not only had a physical form, but by the fact that it was on the island, but it was hard to really be surprised by anything anymore. By the time Havoc had made it to the cafeteria for breakfast, he'd easily passed five impossible things every single day.

For that matter, he was an impossible thing. He could make fire effectively from thin air.

The fact that concepts could be people didn't really register as a surprise after that.

It was easy enough to find the bar the other student had mentioned--the bar where War went drinking--but less easy to figure out which one was War. He wasn't even sure if War was there. Maybe he had the night off. Maybe the whole thing was an elaborate prank played on new students.

Havoc decided he didn't really care, getting a glass of water and earning himself a firm look from the bartender before settling in to watch and listen.

To find War is a rather easy feat altogether, first off he finds a bar he likes and then shows up almost everyday so if you know where to look all you have to to is sit and wait. Secondly whenever he walks the sound of battle follows in his footsteps.

What is the sound of battle? It really depends on who is listening as it is different for everyone, and the patrons of this bar were finding that out first hand. As War entered everyone heard the sounds as they echoed in his footsteps as he made his way to the bar. Sitting down on a stool any mortal near him could feel a sort of energy coming from him, almost as if aggression bled from every fiber of his being, though his face could not be more pleasant then it was right now as he smiled at the bartender.

War had been coming here long enough, and ordering the same thing every time, that the bartender had it ready for him by the time he had sat down. In front of the god now sat a rather large mug of dark beer that he happily picked up and drained in one long gulp.

Setting it down on the bar with a thud War actually laughed and spoke, his voice rather loud and yet still fatherly sounding.

“Thank you my friend! Another!”

The first sign that something was wrong was that Havoc could hear war. Not War himself, but war, the distant sounds of shots fired, of guns being reloaded, of explosions.

It was wrong. He knew it was wrong, but even so he caught himself shifting ever so slightly, preparing for a fight that wasn't going to come.

Instinct over emotion. Instinct over logic.

Instinct over all.

The aura didn't quite effect Havoc the way it did others, even if the distant sounds of fighting did. He couldn't make up his mind on if he was hearing things, or if a battle was coming, and he cupped his palms together, a tiny fire springing to life for a brief moment before spluttering out, his control poor in less than perfect conditions.

The biggest tipoff was that no one else was bothered when a large man who appeared in the doorway, walking over to the bar and sitting down a few seats down. The sounds were louder, as if they were just a street or two over, and Havoc turned his head to the side, noting that the intensity of the sound didn't change.

They weren't really there.

"Are you War?" He abruptly asked, leaning forward slightly to look at the large man.

War had just received his second drink when a voice nearby asked if someone was War. Looking to the side he noticed that the question had been directed at him by a fellow sitting only a stool or two down from him. He took a moment to size the person up before he made any replies.

For most people this sight might have been unsettling, for those gentle looking eyes to get instantly serious as they did, also was that a hint of red behind them now? Though just as quickly as they turned hostile they also went back to that fatherly look. Whoever this fellow was he was one of Wars' followers, or if not then a warrior of some sort.

He was basically Wars' type of people.

Motioning him to sit closer War nodded to the man.

“Yes.” He said simply. “I am an embodiment of war. Why do you ask?"

As much as Havoc had made an involved and pointed effort to seek out War, there wasn't actually a real reason for it. He didn't have anything in particular to ask, nor was there anything he sought. Really, he was there because he was curious. What would war be like, if war was a human?

Wise, apparently. Wise and protecting with the slightest undercurrent of something else. The serious look made Havoc tip his head slightly, his expression just as blank as ever, but then it was gone before he could even try and guess at any greater meaning.

"I was curious," Havoc said simply. "I wanted to know what war would be like."

Even so, it did bring a question to mind, which Havoc wasted no time in asking. He didn't see the point in not asking, even though others might have considered it rude.

"An embodiment? Does that mean there are multiple Wars?"

How odd.

Picking up his drink War brought it to his lips and drained half of it in one go, letting out a contented sigh as the glass was set back down on the bar. This fellow beside him was rather peculiar indeed. First off he didn't seem much involved in the going ons of the place, and secondly the aura of agression that War usually gave off seemed to not be bothering him. Or at least not as much as the others.

You could see the others around starting to be on edge a little, as some unspoken unease filled the air around them. War wasn't sure how long he could stay before the fights started to break out so he would have to make use of what time he had.

“That is correct. Different pantheons, different gods.” He paused for a second to drain the second half of the glass. “Well, most of the time, one in awhile we might just get renamed.”

War set the glass down and motioned to the bartender for another refill.

“My particular pantheon is from another part of the Universe all together.” War said while turning to face Havoc a bit more. “This little island caught my attention and I thought I would come see what the fuss was about.”

The mug in front of War had been replaced with a new one, which was rather quick service, mostly because at this point War had become a known entity in this place. Also because they figured the quicker they served him then the quicker he would leave and they could avoid any big scuffles. War picked up his mug and then looked over at the glass in front of Havoc.

Was that... water? That would not do!

“Come, join me for a drink!”

The aggression felt like little more than a slight buzzing to Havoc. He didn't really feel anything nearly as much as someone else might have, but it did still have some slight effect on him. Given the option of fight or flight, he would be far more likely to pick fight in War's presence, even if the aura hadn't quite had time to work its magic on him.

"I see," he confirmed. It made sense. There was no one true god, nor one true set of gods. All gods were real on Manta Carlos, although how real they were seemed to vary heavily.

"So you are not our war," Havoc noted, wondering if the War of Earth would be significantly different. Maybe the wars reflected their own cultures views of war? Or maybe it only reflected how War was themselves.

It was all rather confusing, and a good dear more philosophical than Havoc had any interest in being.

Havoc wasn't used to drinking, but he wasn't adverse to it either. He could certainly handle a single mug without getting drunk--just a bit tipsy--and he turned his head to the bartender and gave a little nod of confirmation when the man looked at him. It was only once that was done that he turned back to War, offering his hand for a shake.

"My name is James Havoc," he said by way of introduction. "I'm a part of the United States Army."

He worked for them. Or had worked for them. He wasn't entirely clear, and his exact status was a great big question mark. It was possible he'd never be able to go back, not with his powers, but he wasn't willing to give up on that yet.

War had been glad that the man had decided to join him for a drink. It might have been something left over from his mortal days long long ago but he just felt that you could not trust a person unless they joined you for at least one drink, at least not fully that was. When the man had offered his hand War had taken it and gave it a firm shake.

“Well James it is a pleasure to meet you.” He said, smiling. “You already know my name but around this planet I sometimes go by the name Victor. Victor E. Stryfe, though I am told that particular name is a pun in this tongue. Probably why I decided to keep it afterwards!”

War laughed after he had introduced himself and finished off his drink, motioning for another. While War was a god, he could still get drunk but it would take a very long time with the beer they served on this particular planet. He was used to something just a bit stronger.

“United States army, hm?” he said, mulling it over in his mind. “I had a feeling you were a warrior of some type. I could tell.”

He paused for a second then turned back to James before going on.

“And no, it is not some sort of sixth sense. It was how you carried yourself” he said while pointing at the man. “They way you held your shoulders as you sat there, the way you looked while you listened while I spoke. Every little tell tale sign that usually denotes a warrior. You have them my friend.”

War turned back to the bar and smiled as his next drink was placed in front of him.

“So what exactly is your job in this army?” he asked, genuinely curious to know more about this man.

Havoc raised his eyebrows slightly at the mention of the man's name, because it was impossible to hear it as anything other than Victory Strife. At the very least he acknowledged the pun, even if he claimed it was unintentional.

"Havoc is fine," James corrected politely, unclear if there was a point to explaining the idea of military nicknames. The man in front of him, beyond being the personification of war, was also an alien personification of war, and there was no telling if nicknames were a part of his tradition as well.

"Soldier," Havoc corrected. "Is the term used more often here. Not many would consider themselves warriors, since it implies something more antiquated."

He certainly didn't consider himself a warrior, even if War recognized him as one.

"It would be difficult for me to explain my position without knowing how much you know about the US Army. I'm a ranger, if that means anything to you." Which it probably did not. "But I am on leave until my powers are taken under control."

Havoc wasn't even slightly bothered by the idea of spilling his life story to a stranger. Nothing about it was secret, and while he could certainly keep his mouth shut when things were important, the fact that he was a ranger was a matter of public record.

"Well Havoc, you are a true warrior even if you do not think so." War just smiled and shrugged. "I used to think so about myself back in the day, that I was not a true warrior but simply doing what had to be done. Of course that day was possibly millions of years go though, it is hard to tell how long ago that was sometimes."

War picked up his beer and drained half of it, as he listened to his friend explain his job as best as they could.

"It is fine, I am sure I can look up the details of it myself at some point, though I must say it does sound rather interesting. A ranger, hmm?"

What was going through War's mind right now was probably nothing like what a ranger actually did though since despite its human look it was an alien being after all.

"I am curious though, you mentioned something about getting your powers under control? I am afraid I do not understand." Victor/War drained the rest of his drink and turned back to Havoc. "If you don't mind explaining that is, please do not hesitate to tell me if I am prying too much."
