Asta rested her back against the bar, sipping some whisky out of a glass as she watched the stage. She'd come to club Orpheus to help set up the band before they started, apparently their usual guy was out sick and they needed her to cover. The contemporary tunes weren't really her kind of music, she preferred stuff with a lot more energy. But hey, the band offered to cover her drinks in return for the short notice she'd been given, so it wasn't all that bad.

The band were having a break for the moment, so she figured she'd take advantage of the bar a little. Each sip sent a burning sensation down her throat, a feeling that she found herself savouring more and more every time she drank.

It wasn't really in her nature to...restrain herself, really she wanted down the drink like there was no tomorrow, but now doing so was different. Before it was just an impulse, now it was almost like a craving, one that constantly buzzed at the back of her head to indulge.

It was different, in a way she wasn't sure how to feel about yet.

So she kept herself in check, watching the people around the club as she had her drink. The island was still fairly new to her, and checking out all the strange and unusual sights was a way to keep her mind off it.

Xiraev was a proactive man. New to the island, he was quick to affiliate himself with anything that might be of interest to him later on. The Manta Carlos Sanguine Society, Demonic Student Union, Colten Morey, and Chloe Black. It was important for him to know everything about this island. He wasn't concerned about being seen as new. He was concerned about setting a bad first impression and setting up his residents for failure because he lazed around too long.

Not everything he checked out had to be political, however. Club Orpheus was a perfect example. A Drakenhardt owned this establishment. Seeing as they were a prominent family, it would do good to know how far their power extended on the island.

Dressed in a two-piece suit, Xiraev walked into Club Orpheus and was immediately impressed by the wide space not obvious from the outside. Unsurprising for a dragon to choose a building that could fit large-sized people.

Satisfied with the scene, he moved over to the bar where a few people were sitting. Being able to sit down, not having to hide, and order a large glass of blood in a public establishment was a delight. It had been too long.

As he waited for his cup, he noticed a young woman beside him surveying the room. When her eyes landed on him, he smiled. Soon after, his drink came.

Asta's eyes inevitably drifted to the side where he had stood. With his size and obviously inhuman features, Xiraev was hard to ignore. She was a sharp contrast to him without even considering the demonic appearance, all decked in leather and piercings like she was compared to his neat attire. She flashed a smile back at him, tail subconsciously swishing to the beat of the music, before her gaze fell to the glass.

"That doesn't look like wine," She commented. She had, of course, seen plenty of vampires around since she arrived, though like most things, seeing people drink human blood was taking some getting used to.

Even if she herself wasn't human anymore.

"Wine don't give me the kick I need," he replied cooly. The woman was not human, despite the hints of it intermingled with her scent, yet her observation made her seem new to vampires. Upon closer inspection, her smell was similar to his own kind.

"Hope that don't bother you. I fed before coming here in case nothing on the menu suited my needs, but can't resist a drink when surrounded by a relaxing atmosphere and pleasant company. I'm sure the music will add to my enjoyment soon."

"Nah, doesn't make any difference to me," She said with a small shrug. "Gotta admit, I'm kinda curious about how it tastes, stuff like this is kinda new to me."

She brushed a stray strand of hair behind her ears, inadvertently tracing against the small horn growing out of her forehead. She turned around to face him properly, leaning her side against the bar.

"I hope I'm included with the friendly company here," She flashed a small, flirty smile. "You come out here often, big guy?"

"You're right about that, and no. First timer here. Very new to the island. Been here for boutta... Just over a week."

He took another sip of his drink and tried to dig through his memories for a way to explain what blood tasted like. It tasted like blood. That was it.

"Answering your question about blood, best way I can put it is that its blood, but better. Don't think I noticed a difference when I became a vampire. Other than it tasting better and everything else tasting worse." Except for sex. That was still good. "Necessity makes anything taste better."

"Huh," She swirled the remainder of her drink for a moment. "You know, I think I can relate, actually. With both of those."

She sipped the last bit of whisky, then put the glass down.

"Though luckily for me my diet is a lot more varied than yours, from the sounds of it. Becoming a succubus made most things feel a lot better."

She paused for a moment.

"...God that still feels so fuckin' weird to say out loud."

She chuckled derisively to herself, shaking her head before continuing

"Well, anyway, I'm Asta. You got a name or should I just keep calling you big guy all night?"

Xiraev's smile changed tone. While it was still friendly, the raise of his eyebrow made gave the impression he was intrigued but knew more than he was letting on.

"Big guy's good for me, but the name's Xiraev. Nice to meet you, Astra."

He sat down his drink and tilted his head slightly towards the bar without his eyes leaving his companion. "My diet's restrictive, yeah, but not as much as you think. I was an incubus before I was a vampire. Technically both, now. I can eat human food too, it just doesn't do anything for me."

"Well, I guess we have something else in common, then. Nice to meet you Xiraev."

She shot another flirty little smile before resting her arms on the tabletop.

"Gotta admit that's a little refreshing. I hadn't met any other, y'know, succubuses- succubi?" She blinked, before shrugging it off and deciding to be blunt. "Sex demons, I guess. Though I suppose I'm not quite like you, y'know, with the whole-"

She just gestured to him with her hands. There was a lot that stood out in comparison to her, though the horns and eyes were the particular sticking point to her.

"I..." She paused a moment, frowning a little. "I'm apparently can still eat, but I only get something from the feeling of the food, rather than the food itself. It's weird."

She shrugged, gesturing to the bartender for another drink.

"I already feel like an outlier and apparently I'm weird even by weird magical races standards." She chuckled again.

Astra's flirtatious smile made Xiraev smirk. She didn't have to expand on their differences. The list would be too long. Aside from differences in species, the two emanated different atmospheres. Different lifestyles.

As Astra gestured for another drink, so did Xiraev. "I think I understand. Aside from blood, I feed off of desire. I have experience with eating physical and emotional food."

It was hard to notice with how Xiraev's eyes were, but he was analyzing Astra. "Aha, but I'm an old man. I'm having trouble seeing how you're weird by supernatural standards... Ah, but if it's too personal, then don't feel pressured to explain."
