The streets and alleys of the city were where Pon felt most safe. Or more like where he felt most confident that he could be attacked and be able to get away. Because no matter what the adults in this place said Pon didn't think anywhere was safe. In the past no matter where he stopped or where he went someone would always find him, and try to get him. Every time he gave himself the chance to think even for a second that maybe that place could be his home the men who smelled like blood came and Pon had to fight and run again. Well, this time he wouldn't make that mistake. Even if Pon couldn't leave this place there was no way he would let himself get cozy.

It was still pretty early, and Pon was sitting on top of a stack of magazines near an entrance of an alley, gnawing on an apple he had snatched from a booth at the farmer's market. The salesman had not noticed a thing, it had been easy, and the streets were still pretty empty so there was no crowd to get in his way if the farmer did notice. And that was a good thing, Pon didn't need to go hungry. He couldn't think of stealing as wrong, no one suffered from one single candybar or apple disappearing, no one even noticed. So as long as Pon didn't hurt anyone he would keep feeding himself.
There were two men watching him. Pon had noticed them following him all the way from farmer's market. They weren't cops, otherwise they would've come to him already, and neither were they farmers. Pon glanced at them, he knew that look in their eyes. He could tell when someone was hungry.

Pon ate the apple in three big hungry bites and hopped up, hurrying deeper into the alley to ge could get out of those men's sight and out of their mind. But just when he got deep enough into the alley to be covered by shadows one of the men suddenly appeared before him. Pon jumped back and looked up at the man, his forever glaring eyes now giving the man a real stinkeye. But when Pon turned around to run the other man was behind him. He was surrounded. Immediately the panic struck, and Pon let out a thin growl from deep in his chest. He was still young, after all. His growl lacked threat.
"You've got an interesting air about you, kid. How about you tell us a bit about it, hm?"
One of the men stepped close, and grabbed Pon by his shoulder. Automatically Pon flinched violently and turned his head, digging his teeth into the man's hand. He cursed loudly, and the other man grabbed Pon by the other shoulder and shoved him violently against the wall. Normally this wouldn't affect Pon in any way, but he hit the back of his head quite hard, and for a second he could do nothing else but growl and snap his teeth at the men, struggling weakly.
"Settle down, kid. We know you've got something valuable about you. Now tell us what it is!"
One of the men slapped Pon, not that hard, but hard enough to make him feel pain and that just made him struggle more.
See? Nowhere is safe. Those adults were all just a bunch of lying...poopheads.

It was fairly early in the morning, but Alexis and his cousin Riva were up already. They had woken up and grabbed a real quick breakfast before heading out for a morning swim. Riva poking fun at Alexis as she teased him about whether he'd been seeing any cute girls lately. Alexis had grumbled and shoved her back playfully but he wasn't angry with her. It was a pretty usual thing for the two of them. They were effectively like a close set of siblings, just not from the same parents.

The two of them were stretching their legs and playing a bit of hide and seek through the city on the way towards the more open areas where they could shift and fly away. Maybe they could have gone directly from the dorms but stopping at a cafe for breakfast occasionally was a sort of favorite treat. Either way they overheard what sounded like growling and loud voices in an alley. It was just barely audible. But they could also smell the scent of... a wyvern? There didn't seem to be too many of them on the island so Riva looked at Alexis and he nodded. Swimming could wait a few minutes to check things out.

The teens rounded a corner to see... a couple adults beating up a kid? What. The. Fuck. Even if the kid didn't smell of wyvern Alexis would have been pissed. What kind of garbage people were these? In fact, he wasn't going to just think that either. "What the Fuck kind of pieces of shit adults corner a kid in an alley?" he growled out in a slightly screeching but definitely angry voice.

He didn't wait for a response before pushing things a little further with the intimidation. Sharp steel nails began protruding from his bare fists as he stepped forward aggressively towards the two men.

Riva slid over in one smooth movement to the adjacent wall, paralleling Alexis' movements. She had no steel spikes but she cracked her knuckles all the same. Neither looked to be holding a textbook or well-trained fighting stance but they looked like they weren't strangers to fighting either. Both had wisps of mist drifting from their nostrils as they glared with utter hatred at the men.

The man pinning Pon to the wall was strong, much much stronger than a normal human or Pon. He couldn't pull himself free, no matter what, and though his jaws snapped his head was being pushed against the wall as well, and Pon's kicks seemed to have no effect. And out of instinct Pon didn't shift into a wyvern, in the outside world and on the place he had been thus far he hadn't been allowed to do that.

But before Pon could realize shifting was okay he heard a voice, and smelled something familiar. He couldn't exactly turn his head to look towards the voice, but Pon knew this smell. The smell of someone like him, a wyvern. There was another wyvern on this island. Multiple, actually, like Pon saw as the man let him go and Pon could see two people approaching, both looking angry and full-on hateful. But for now Pon didn't care about that. Since at that moment, when he saw the male of the pair had partial shifted, Pon realized that shifting was okay. And he shifted, and soon the two men had three angry wyverns on them, two on the front and one on the back. Pon was just about the size of a lioness, but he stood so he blocked the escape route from the men, and now he was snarling and hissing viciously. Some of Pon's gem scales rustled, as he was preparing to shoot some if necessary. And the men looked at him for a moment with fear and awe, as Pon's priceless scales glimmered in the early morning sun.

As Alexis and his cousin stalked forward, intimidating the men a little, they stepped into range of the younger wyverns aura. Oh, so maybe that was why these ducks were roughing him up. But... it didnt matter at all. Shitheads were shitheads and they were either going to run or get beat up.

Alexis noted the shifting of Pon and used the distraction to keep the men off balance as he launched a couple steel nails upwards and caught them as they fell. Mostly to keep the men from thinking about attacking. They were warning shots.

"Did they hit you?" He growled at Pon as he stared daggers at the men. One of them started to interrupt but Riva slapped her hand against the brick wall with an echoing thud and yelled at him to shut up. They weren't asking him.

"I know what you're thinking about doing kid but they're not worth it. They'll probably cry that they got beat up by a bunch of kids and community service sucks." Alexis was totally ok with beating the snot out of these jerks but he didnt want all of them freaking arrested or something. "They make one aggressive move though and they'll be... dealt with."

Similarly to Alexis Pon shot couple of scales from his tail, and with a thud they hit the brick wall and shattered, leaving two small holes on the wall. Pon's scales moved as fast as a bullet, and if the ricocheted shards exploded into a body, well, it wasn't pretty.

Pon sent a quick glance at Alexis when he spoke to him, and didn't bother answering. Even in wyvern form the trickle of blood that was dripping down from Pon's forehead was clear, the men had hit his head against the wall bit too hard.
"They want to sell me."
Pon growled, and took a step closer to the men, his teeth bared and ready to tear if necessary.

It was like Alexis read Pon's thoughts, and with a small snarl his eyes snapped to Alexis and Riva. Normally Pon would've ran away by now, but he was angry. For some reason he felt betrayed, and these men were the target of his anger.
"I should cripple them. If I don't they'll do it again. Or at least shatter their legs."
It sounded really dark, yes, but that always stopped the pursuers. And it scared these men immensely, since one of them suddenly disappeared. Teleporter. Pon let out an angry hiss and pounced the other man before he could run away too, pinning him tightly under one foot.

Alexis understood. Kinda. He wanted to let the kid get his revenge too, but unfortunately it seemed like some of the lessons his various friends and teachers had offered really had stuck with him. Tearing into the guys would mean police and that meant a ton of trouble for everyone. At the very least Riva's record was clean still so Alexis had to step in.

The first coward fled immediately and Alexis snorted in derision. He sure showed his true colors. The other one though was trapped. "If you cripple him you lose. They'll want to cage you up so you don't hurt anyone else. It sucks but you have to let him go." Alexis sounded annoyed. It felt way weird to be the one giving that kind of advice. Advice he probably would have had trouble following too when he first arrived.

He stepped forward very quickly and got right up in Pon's face. But he didnt put hands on the kid. Not yet. "You do that shit and you're on your own. With him, his friends and the police. How about you just shift back and punch him in the face? To hurt, not to wound," he suggested and then punctuated his words with a kick to the man's abdomen. Not with enough force to seriously injure but the bruises definitely would take a while.

Riva kept an ear towards them but with the man incapacitated she was keeping an eye out for cops arriving. Tele-bro might have whined to them.

Cage him up? Pon had already been caged for months, all because he had acted in a way that had allowed him to survive this long. Everyone new was an enemy, and they stayed that way until Pon trusted them. And thus far Pon had never began to trust anyone. He didn't trust Alexis either, though Pon didn't turn a complete blind eye to his advice either. It was the fact that Alexis was a wyvern, Pon had really missed seeing other members of his kind, even if they were unrelated to him in every way.
"They would cage him up too, he started it."
Pon answered, with a slightly muttered but just as annoyed tone.

When Alexis suddenly came very close, right on Pon's face, Pon took a big step back. Physical closeness was a big no-no for him. And the moment he stepped off the man Pon had been pinning tried to get up, only to be sent back down by Alexis' kick. The kick made Pon admire Alexis a bit, no one had ever performed violence in his stead, or stood up for him. Pon did as Alexis said, he shifted back and looked at Alexis with still suspicious, but now bit more open expression.

"I can really hit him? You won't turn me in?"
They had said Pon was still on thin ice, if this got out he knew they'd put him back in the islets, even if this hadn't been his fault.

Alexis ignored the comment about the man being locked up too. Of course he would, there were two witnesses that found him and another adult smashing a kid's head into a wall. But he was focused on the kid. The loser would be dealt with either way.

It was timed really well actually. Alexis had inadvertently both challenged the younger wyvern by making him back off and also apparently impressed him by kicking the jerk on the ground before he could get up.

Alexis didnt smile at Pon. Instead he gave him a determined look, glanced over at Riva- who nodded to indicate the coast was clear, and then nodded at Pon. "Do it. I got no reason to turn you in. Not a fan of the cops anyway," growled Alexis as he held his foot on the man. Not hard enough to actually do anything but it would keep him from squirming away for the moment.

Finally he turned his gaze back to the stupid man. Standing over him with his own fists balled up. "You're lucky I came by. This kid was about to rip your head off. Stop being so fucking stupid. And if you whine to the police I will make sure people know you like to hurt kids." There was a sense of danger in his voice that was almost tangible.

It was frustrating, to be made to back off by Alexis, and if Pon hadn't had strong survival instincts deeply rooted into him he would've tried to fight the older, bigger wyvern. But he didn't, and all Pon could do was hiss from deep in his throat and admire Alexis.

Pon' eyes jumped from Riva to Alexis and ended up on the man on the ground. And you didn't have to tell him twice to kick this...bad person, Po was still really angry and scared. He grit his teeth and with an angry frown Pon kicked the man firmly on the side. It did and didn't feel good. Pon didn't like the idea of hurting someone who couldn't fight back, but his anger was greater right now.

Rip his head off. That was possible, Pon had done scary things when he had been angry and scared and driven to a corner. He hadn't killed anyone, but Pon wouldn't be surprised if some of the people he maimed ended up dead afterwards, because the damage was too great.
"No profanity."
Pon muttered when Alexis said the f-word, and wiped some blood away from his temple. His light grey hair was dyed red from where his head had hit the wall.
"Knock him out and throw him in a dumpster. It's easier to leave like that."
If they just left the guy here, beaten up but conscious, he might come after them or yell or something. It would be better to make him unconscious and out of sight.

The kick wasnt really meant to make the kid feel better. Alexis knew better- only a much better fight would have made him feel better so he guessed it was similar for Pon. But it had been necessary. The man couldnt just get away with attacking a wyvern unscathed. Now maybe he wouldn't do it again.

One of Alexis' secrets was that he'd never killed anyone. He'd been present for murders sure, but never at his own teeth or claws. But he had no problem seriously hurting someone. Especially if they deserved it.

After watching the kick and nodding in approval Alexis gave Pon a funny look. "Really... 'no profanity'? You got your head slammed into a wall. You can fucking curse," he grumbled. Just how young was this kid anyway?

But Alexis noticed the blood too and sighed. Uttering the french word for water, suddenly there was about 10 gallons of water floating in the air by them. "Clean up first. People will get curious if a bleeding kid is wandering around the streets," he advised and had the water lower to be within easy reach of Pon. The kid could wither stick his head in it or scoop it out with his hands.

As for the shmuck on the ground... Alexis looked down and laughed. "No. He'll lie right there until we're out of sight. Coming after us would be stupid. Besides... we can take him." With that he turned his back on the dude and gestured for Pon to join them in leaving the alley
