Now the girl spoke, and though she seemed confident and like she felt superior Pon didn't feel nearly as threatened by her than he did by Alexis. So he looked her straight in the eye when she asked what grade Pon was in, and Pon answered with a clear voice unlike when he spoke to Alexis with a slightly low, muttery tone. He still had that same suspicion and slight sharpness to his voice, but that never went away, really.
"Remedial. I didn't go to school before."
Pon had lost his parents before they had enrolled him into school, and they had barely had time to teach Pon to read and write a bit. And along the years Pon had just polished those skills a bit. He didn't know anything else, so learning math and history and other such subjects was strange and Pon wondered why he needed to know all that. He was also well on his way learning that academics weren't his thing.

Riva nodded and Alexis shrugged. They'd both been to school with humans before coming to the island. Back home. Gross.

"Eh, we went to school back home. Was kinda lame. Until someone got us pulled out," she snickered and stared Alexis in the eyes. It was actually a lot meaner than it sounded on the surface but that wasnt uncommon. Leftovers from their previous family life

Alexis visibly drooped for a moment before catching himself. He reached over to the edge of the table, pulling out a jam packet to wing at her. She tried to get out of the way but was hit in the shoulder. Grape jam stained her shirt purple as the packet burst.

"F-," Alexis cut himself off as he glanced at Pon. Not cursing was really hard for him. "Not funny. And it doesnt matter- we live here now. Screw them and all their garbage." But Riva was laughing at the outburst and Alexis was also kind of starting to laugh at the sight.

And before things got any wilder the waitress came back with their food. Glancing with a raised eyebrow at Riva. To which she only got a simple reply that she had spilled by accident.

This back and forth between Alexis and Riva was weird, and somehow entertaining, to watch. Pon didn't comment on Alexis getting pulled out, though he did stay on his toes in case the guy decided to lose it and suddenly start attacking Riva. Since he seemed like the impulsive, violent type. And Pon did jump just a bit in his seat, when Alexis threw a jam packet at Riva. Thankfully it didn't escalate from there.

Alexis didn't curse again, and Pon wondered that for a guy who said he didn't care if he cursed or not he was being awfully nice towards Pon. Not cursing in front of him and all. And that made Pon kinda feel like laughing, though he didn't. He didn't want to make Alexis and Riva think he was actually enjoying himself or something. But if you looked closely there was just the smallest hint of a smile on Pon's face for a moment. Though Alexis and Riva probably didn't notice, since they were horsing around.

When the food came Pon barely spared the waitress any glances and basically yanked his food from her hands when she was handing it to them. And Pon, like a starving street dog, began eating his food at a fast pace. Though when he got to the egg Pon slowed down, and really savoured the taste. In the streets he so rarely got to eat cooked eggs. Pon usually had eaten them raw, or just partially cooked over a small fire.

Pon was right to think neither of them noticed the hint of a smile. Thry were far too distracted messing with eachother. Alexis had grinned wide at the sight of his cousin splattered with the grape jam. Served her right for bringing that shit up. And besides, she'd get back at him later for the jam anyway.

Both cousins noticed Pon being hesitant and nervous but they didn't care to stop just for his sake. As far as they were concerned leaving him out of the play fighting was enough. They did quiet down with the food now on the table.

Alexis raised an eyebrow at the kid pretty much inhaling his food but left him alone to enjoy it. Riva and Alexis though ate theirs slower. Not dragging things out bu any means, but definitely not as quick as Pon. They did both eat similarly though. With a sort of hunched posture and arms out and around their plates when not actively using them. In essence they were protecting their food.

"So... which one of us do you like better?" Asked Riva. Which made Alexis snort and nearly spill his drink. "Why? You have a crush on the kid or something?" Alexis laughed and then got a punch to the arm for his teasing.

Where as Pon was a starving dog the other two were more like wary predators, guarding their food as much as eating it. Pon noticed that, and made sure to stay strictly in his own corner of the table. He didn't want his hand bitten off because he reached too far out to pick up the salt.

Riva's question got Pon almost choking on some eggs, and he took a long sip of cocoa while Alexis teased Riva about a crush or something. Which Pon didn't pay any mind to. He set his now almost empty glass down and looked between Riva and Alexis.
"Alexis pays for the food."
And that was enough of an answer for Pon. Thus far Riva had pretty much been Alexis' sidekick, and though she was less threatening and Pon did feel slightly more comfortable with her because they were close in age Alexis was the superior pick. Though Pon wasn't especially fond of either of them.
"Don't have a crush on me."
Pon said at Riva just in case, he would hate for her to get a wrong idea of any kind, that would be a pain.

Ok, so Riva was being a little bit of a shit. She knew full well that the poor kid would struggle with the conversation regardless of which person they picked. She hadn't quite anticipated the crush comment but... eh, what could you do?

She laughed and assured Pon she definitely didn't have a crush on him. She'd only just met him. Alexis meanwhile was raising his fists in the air in victory after rubbing his arm a bit. He was the more important one. Granted it was only because he'd been shelling out the money but... that was ok. He'd been spending almost all of his stipend making sure they were getting what they needed. And he'd felt like he needed to help Pon today. Gross.

"I would have thought the whole rescue from weird guys in an alley would be more important than eggs but whatever," he said quietly as he eyed the kid. This kid had nearly hurt himself on eggs...just because of a question. Geez. "What are you gonna do with the rest of your day Pon?" Alexis felt protective of him but ultimately he was mostly just making small talk. He fully expected Pon to sprint away just as soon as he was done savoring that food.

Pon couldn't help but give Alexis a bit of a condescending look when he lifted his fists in victory, was that kind of thing really something to be so happy about? Seriously, he was the one losing money. Though Pon didn't complain, the food was good, and now he didn't have to steal anything more. There was always the chance of getting caught when doing that after all.

"I could've handled it."
Pon said, his mouth bit full so his voice was even more mumbly. It was true that Pon had looked like he was in trouble, but that had been because his brain was rattled. Or at least that was what he was telling himself. He could've saved himself, easily. Alexis and Riva had just seen him in a bad situation, that's all.

The rest of the day? Pon stopped eating for a sec to look from Alexis to Riva, and then back on his almost empty plate.
"Don't know."
Was all he said, Pon never really dared to plan ahead. On the street the circumstances could change at a moment's notice so it was always better to not be tied down by plans.

Alexis grumbled and glared at Pon's dirty look. He was just being competitive with his cousin. And secretly it did feel really nice to win someone over at least a little bit. Without having to lose in a fight to them- since that seemed to happen a lot for him.

Riva snickered both at Alexis' annoyance and the kid saying he would've handled it. "Yeah but you didnt until we came and shook things up. Guess you were just taking your time with them?" She asked, amused at how he seemed to be trying to act tough while his mouth was full of food.

Alexis finally shrugged it off though. "Whatever. We're gonna go swim after this. You can follow if you want, I don't really care," he said as he speared the last of his food on a fork. But he did sort of care. Otherwise he wouldn't have mentioned what they were going to do. To be fair though Pon might not have been able to go in the still cold waters.

Now it was Pon's turn to grumble a bit in annoyance, when Riva teased him about the situation they had found him in.
"I was momentarily disoriented."
Pon said with slight edge to his voice, as he sent a small glare at Riva. Though he did glance at Alexis right after, expecting him to either tell Pon to shut his mouth or straight up attack him to being even a little threatening towards Riva. After all, Pon didn't know exactly how protective Alexis was of this girl.

Swimming? That seemed like a weird thing to do so early in the morning. But who was Pon to judge, he had been shoplifting in the farmer's market.
"I can't swim."
That was an answer enough to their question, what use would Pon be if he went along when he couldn't even swim.

Alexis watched with an amused look on his face. Had the kid actually gone after his cousin he'd have stomped him into the ground. Or help her do it, for that matter. But it was just harmless teasing and glares back and forth. A pretty normal breakfast all things considered. Riva mostly just laughed at the glaring.

"I didn't say you had to come swimming. All I said was you could follow if you felt like you wanted to hang out with us but you do what you want," Alexis sighed and pulled out the money to leave on the table. Standing up and putting his jacket back on. Riva followed suit.
