Agatha seemed a bit relieved to at least see that Hazel considered this kind of magic badly...That hasnt always been the case.

"I know...I wanted nothing to do with it. But my friends...The was nothing I could do to prevent them from making pacts. They felt like they were doing the right thing. That those elder gods would protect them against other elder gods and that they would save those they cared about. In the end it only brought their demise...And I had to follow into their madness to try to save them."

The shadow of an horrible past flickered on her face for a few seconds. She was remembering how awfull it was.

"One by one, they changed them, they became greedy, with no value for human life, only the goal...Soon they became less than human and dragged everyone with them..."

She realised how she was now ranting to herself and lowered her head.

"...I'm sorry if I'm rambling, I'm just exhausted."

She offered Hazel a weak smile

"You know...I have always wanted it to be this easy...I...Dreamed of magic since I was a little girl. But right now...I have a hard time believing this power is free...What I mostly learned about those who dont weild it however, is that they are at the complete mercy of those who have..." She looked depressed "And the more they have power, the less they see you as a human being, and more like a liability."

Hazel listened carefully, nodding at times. Yeah, this was the kind of shit she was warned about by her master. Elder Gods are usually giant pricks, using people for their own selfish needs. A must stay away from.

"No, it's fine to ramble. I get it, wanting more power can be great, but if you aren't careful, then...Well, you can figure that part out pretty well. I really am sorry that all of that happened to you. But magic is a tool, just like anything else. Sure, it can hurt people, but so can a lot of tools. And besides, magic can only do so much if you aren't aware of someone shooting you."

She nodded at Agatha's smile, then reached up and patted her back.

"And hey, not all super powered people are jerks. Yeah, some will abuse their power, but not everyone. There's a goddess named Mal who is a kind person. And my maid Haru. She's strong magically and physically, but is the nicest person I know....Besides, it works the opposite way as well. People didn't see my family as human, and now I have no family."

She tensed up when she patted her on the back, but said nothing. She was probably not that used to physical contact...Not in that way. She let out some steam in the form of a long sigh. For the first time it seems that she had met with someone who knew what she has been going through.

"It's...Alright. It's part of me, wether I like it or not. I just have to learn how to deal with it for now on. I...Guess I should be amazed at the opportunity of studying here, but I cant shake this sense of dread that's been looming over me ever since I encounter magic..."

She pushed her glasses back onto her nose as she kept following Hazel wherever she went. When she told her she had no familly she looked sad.

"I'm sorry to hear that. It must be difficult to be on your own...I...Well I didnt exactly lost my familly, but my mother did disapear and my father went after her...For what I know they could be alive."

She was trying to remain positive, even though it was something that deeply affected her.

"You mentionned having a maid...Are you someone important ?"

Hazel shook her head, moving her hand off of Agatha's back. Okay, she wasn't that big of a fan of being touched. That's good to know.

"It's fine, I understand. Magic is not an easy thing to comprehend and it can be very overwhelming and scary. But a lot of things were in human history or just growing up. Once you start to learn more about it, it'll hopefully be a lot less scary for you. Or at least learn to avoid shit like that."

She nodded at Agatha's sympathy, then stretched. "I hope your family turns up safe. As to my maid, well, I came from a long line of rich families, with a lot of cousins, uncles and aunts. One cousin hired Haru, and she proved to be a great friend, bodyguard, and maid."

It was nice to meet someone who got it, even though she was quite sure Hazel and her had very different outlooks on magic because they took different paths. She was a bit envious of course. She wished she had such a positive encounter with magic, maybe then she wouldnt be such a stick in the mud.

"I guess you're right...If we can truly learn from magic here it will probably be a lot more comforting. Back from where I came this knowledge was limited. We had to know precisely what we were doing and the rich and powerfull were hoarding all those books. We stumbled more time than I can count and we did...Terrible things...As those things were done to us too. I'm an intellectual girl, I try to get everything I do."

She joined her hands submissively, she was hunching a bit while she talked and never looked Hazel in the eyes. She was clearly very awkward around people, nevertheless she seemed to be able to talk just fine for now, even if she had to make short breaks to find her words.

"It's nice to have someone you can count on. I used to have those but...I guess I wasnt good enough for them. Plus you still have some familly so it's positive...I mean I think. The rest of my familly has disowned my mom and dad a long time ago so I'm kind of on my own."

"Yeah, usually people outside the island try to hide or keep the information to themselves. And yeah, in doing so it can be very dangerous. Hopefully here, things will be better for you. And I'm sure you will find people you can count on here. Also, No, I don't have any family left. But Haru is very trustworthy."

Hazel led her forward, up to her front door. The house was an average size, white, but pretty nice and new. It wasn't anything too special overall, but it was quite cozy looking. Entering the house, Hazel took off her shoes, placing them in a cubby near the entrance.

"Go ahead and sit down on the couch. I'll get some drinks and snacks. Do you like cheesecake?"

Once it was clear that Hazel meant her no harm she started to lower her guard sightly...Afterall she did came here expecting nothing so anything good coming her way would be welcome. Even though she did made a mistake by assuming that Hazel still had some familly left, she didnt seem to be offended by it, so she guessed it was better not to insist on that point, even to say that she was sorry. Saying sorry would only bring her so far...

She was starting to become a little more confident around her. Following her inside and putting away her shoes neatly in a similar fashion as she did. She was expecting a much grander house since she mentionned having a buttler, but it was quite humble, a bit like Hazel was afterall, modest, but rich on the inside. She sat on the couch and immediately she felt like she was going to lay down but forced herself to remain seated properly. It was a much needed break from all the walking.

"Yes. Thank you so much for your hospitality."

She didnt have anything to offer to her in return, yet she was trusting and ready to help. It made her think about the state of this island. Maybe it wasnt filled to the brim with opportunists, ready to murder to get more power. The very fact that she was so easily welcoming her, as well as a stable society outside was telling long about how safe the city was...Or Maybe Hazel was a very trusting person to begin with.

"If you dont mind me asking Agatha, what is it that you do ?You seem a little old to be studying magic...Er no offense !"

She quickly correct herself. Way to go, she met the kindest person ever and she found ways to insult her anyway. She felt so embarassed...

Hazel nodded, appreciating the hospitality from Agatha. Then she went to the kitchen. Everything seemed quite clean, but no sign of Haru. She must be out with her business at the moment. Which is fine, less time for her to embarrass Hazel. Anyway, Hazel grabbed a couple bottles of water and two plates of cheesecake. However, she needed to float in help carry everything.

She handed Agatha a regular cheesecake, then sat down in a chair. She took a bite, listening to Agatha ask the question about being too old to study magic. She wasn't sure if that was referring to the fact that Hazel looked like a kid or...? Well, either way, it's a fair question.

"Well, contrary to what I look like, I am 18. And studying magic isn't for kids, people have spent thousands of years learning the ways of magic. It's just associated with stuff for little kids now adays. I'm not offended though, so don't worry about that. As to what I do, I'm a tailor and baker when I'm not in classes. Made my hat and all of my clothes personally."

She had a nervous laugh. Once again she had fumbled somehow. It was obvious that Hazel was still learning magic, and in fact, that there was no precise end to where a magic curriculum was over. She still was amazed to see she was indeed older than her...She looked so young, yet she had some kind of hunch that she was older than what she seemed to be...She had encountered someone like that in the past afterall...Someone who was pretending to be much younger than what he was...Although it was a far les pleasant meeting.

"I'm sorry. I guess I still have a lot to learn. I'm...Unsure of what there is to learn about magic exactly. It appears that most of the students I crossed path with are already familiar with it, or developped their powers in some way...Me on the other hand, well...I'm completely new to this."

She started to eat as well and gave her an appreciative nod

"Oh wow. Your clothes are so pretty, even though you did them yourself they look like they're designer. I dont know if you made the cheesecake as well, but it's very good too. I used to have a cooking blog before all of this...I mean it's probably not as good as what you do, but I know how to cook too."

"That's alright. If you chose to learn about magic, then they have courses for starting out. Even if this is a magic island, nothing says you have to learn how to use magic or anything."

Hazel started to eat as well, but quickly turned bright red at the compliments. She coughed a bit, nodding.

"Yeah, thank you. If you ever want to cook together or need a shirt or skirt, I'd be down to help with that. It'd be free, as I usually do commissions for fun and cheap anyway. If you're looking for a job, I wouldn't mind having another hand in the kitchen or another maid..... It's uh, a bit of a weird request, but Haru is starting a business and might be a bit busier. So having another hand around would help out a lot.."

She definitely was a bit sudden, but she did seem really nice. And hey, having her close by would mean helping keep an eye out on her. It'd be a win win for the both of them.

"Oh, and you don't have to wear a maid outfit if you don't wish to. Just whatever's comfy. Either way, I would like to try some of your cooking and maybe give you pointers. Could be helpful to retrain yourself."
