Sipping her cappuccino quietly, Zora sat back and waited patiently, and somewhat anxiously, for Jude to arrive. It had been ages since she had talked or even seen him, partly because she wasn't sure he wanted or was ready to listen to her apology, and partly because she hadn't wanted to cause any waves between Broen and Jude. Her philosophy had been out of sight, out of mind, and hoping to hell things would eventually right themselves out somehow... which, thankfully, for a short while seemed to be the case.

However, that had not lasted too long, and hell was slowly breaking loose again. Zora had heard the terrible news about Halcyon, had heard Jude had lost his arm, which in her mind was distressing, and only added to her sense of wanting to somehow patch things up, and had met many of the newcomers and refugees... among them Broen's father, who had also come to visit her, setting off alarm bells that something was up. And despite Broen's assurances when she told him about the visit, she was worried that he might not be as safe as he thought, or as equipped or able to "handle it" as he told her.

Frederick's visit was also the last straw that had made Zoraida put away her pride, and quiet shame, and send Jude a message, hoping they could talk. He was the only one she knew that she could safely talk to, and she was hoping that, even if he still couldn't forgive her for what happened, he might be able to put aside that mistrust for his friend's sake.

Truth be told, Jude hadn't thought about Zora much. Not because she hadn't been important, but because every time he thought about her it had lead him down an unhealthy line of thought. He'd had issues with memories. It had been thinking about Zora that had helped him realize what the issue really was.

Jude didn't forget. But beyond that, his memories didn't fade either. His memories stayed exactly as they were when they happened. So if he was angry, or upset, or hurt, or anything like that, he more or less re-experienced the feeling when he thought about it again. Every single time he thought about Zora, he experienced the same feelings, and that was a toxic mess at best.

But he'd found a way around it. He'd found a way to cleanse the memories, to make them normal. He still remembered them perfectly, but they were the way normal people had memories. They weren't so intense. They were things that had happened, but they weren't there.

It had given him space. It had given him time to process.

But he hadn't wanted to rush it. He'd wanted that space, and now he had that space--and a message from Zora asking him to meet--and there he was, arriving at the little cafe just on time. He was still missing his arm, but the sleeves of the sweater he was wearing were long enough that it looked more like he was missing a hand. The end of his left sleeve dangled a bit, but it wasn't exactly obvious unless you were looking with it.

Which she probably would be.

Jude slid into the cafe, spotting Zora more or less immediately, and headed right over. He was polite--maybe a bit stiff--making the standard is this seat taken? and all that before finally grabbing a seat.

"It's been a bit," Jude finally said, thinking of the maze. A month, maybe. But it had been a long month, filled with a lot of stuff.

When she saw Jude, Zora's eyes just flickered lightly over his arm. She knew he had lost it, and so she was not about to make him uncomfortable by staring or commenting. Besides, Jude's arm was not what made him who he was, and so she chose to politely ignore that - at least for now.

"It has been," she agreed with a tiny nod as he sat down across from her and gave him a warm friendly look, "Too long perhaps," she added, knowing that on her part it had been somewhat intentional, and feeling a bit guilty about that.

"Thank you for coming by the way," she started, "I was hoping I could talk to you about something, or someone actually, and apologise for everything that happened," she said, being very direct and upfront about her intentions and why she wanted to see him.

Things were starting off... alright. Good, even. He didn't want to get his hopes up. He didn't want to raise them too high. But talking about someone probably meant either Broen or Frederick, and an apology...

Jude dropped his hand down into his lap, his fingers relaxed.

"I've been meaning to talk to you too, but... well, a lot's gotten in the way. I wanted to thank you for your help at the maze. If you hadn't helped, I might not have gotten my wish, and..."

Well, he wouldn't have any of the people who'd come through. His father. Gabe. Xavier, technically. Armorer. So many people who were so important to him.

He didn't finish his sentence. There was too much to be said there, and he was sure she'd heard from Broen.

Zora nodded in quiet agreement, she felt the same. She wasn't sure what he had wished for exactly, but his invaluable help, as well as Dalia's, had allowed her to get her magic back, and that had meant a lot to her. More than he could ever realise probably.

"It was fun. I had a really good time working with you and Dalia," Zora told Jude. She hadn't been sure how the maze run would go, but they had both put aside their differences and everything had gone smoothly, better than expected actually.

"Truthfully, your help, the strategy of splitting up was genius, and I also must thank you. Winning allowed me to get my magic back, something I was losing fast at the time, and would have probably been gone entirely by now, I think..." she confessed, under no illusion about that, that somehow she could have retained her magic otherwise.

"Can I ask what you wished for?" she enquired, not aware of other's wishes. The only person she knew, sort of, was Dalia. She had seen the disappointment on the young girl's face at the time, and suspected that her wish could not be fulfilled.

It hadn't occurred to Jude that she didn't know. She hadn't seen the letter. She didn't have all the pieces needed to make the connection, and Jude actually flushed, embarrassed.

"I sent a letter to my father," he said. "It was meant as a... As a way of saying goodbye. There were a lot of things I never got to say to my father before I came over here. Closure was a myth, a fairy tale fantasy, but I figured writing a letter would... get it off my chest."

He paused for a long moment, and then let out a small laugh.

"Well, we kind of assumed the world was dead. But it wasn't. My dad got my letter, and with what I said they managed to send people through. I got to see my dad again because of that wish."

Zora was surprised at Jude's wish and it probably showed on her face. She had seen him hand what looked like a letter to Mr. September, but she hadn't thought it was actually a letter. She had assumed he had just written down the wish.

"That is, just wow... fate in motion," she said slowly, rather stunned and amazed at what had been set in motion with the need to simply say goodbye to a loved one.

"What you did, saved so many people's lives," she said quietly impressed as she eyed Jude thoughtfully.

"I am glad that you were able to see your father again, and that he's here safe now," Zora told him with an honest smile. In a way, she envied him. Her own father had been a man similar to her brother, Tomas. He had been cold, cruel and calculating, and a big part of her wished she had had a different relationship with both men.

"Speaking of fathers..." she started, her tone more sombre now, wondering if Jude knew about Crawford, "Broen's father showed up on my doorstep a few days ago..." she told him, blanching a bit at the memory.

"No no," Jude said, waving it off immediately. "What I did was just a drop in the bucket. There's a chance they'd have come through anyway. They knew approximately where they'd sent us after all. All my letter did was give them something to go off."

No matter what, Jude didn't want the credit. It felt like a cheat, especially considering he'd been doing it for entirely selfish reasons.

He winced at the mention of Frederick.

"He tried to talk to me back when he first got here. I told him to leave me and my friends alone, but haven't talked to him since. Unfortunately, he's the downside of me having brought everyone over. That included him. Wouldn't have mind if he'd just been left behind..."

Jude let out a small huff.

"He say anything?"

Zora respected him not wanting to take the credit, but she highly disagreed that the rest of those people would have eventually made their way through to safety. If that had been the case, at least in her mind, more people would have come through than just Jude, Broen, and a few others.

"Maybe that's true, although I still think what you did was amazing," she stated as she took a sip of her coffee before it got too cold to drink.

"Frederick is digging for information, I think," Zora said cautiously, "He said him and Broen were estranged, wanted to talk to someone that knew his son," she told Jude, "He seemed very sincere, concerned even, however... I suspect that was an act," she confessed uneasily.

"Likely," Jude confirmed her suspicions with some of his own. "Everything I've heard about him is that he'll play anyone and everyone he can. But..."

He trailed off for a moment, his eyes wandering around the room. Part of it was thinking. Part of it was triple checking no one was observing them.

"I don't think he's as dangerous as Broen thinks. Not anymore. That kind of person... he gains his strength from social situations. No one knows him here. He has no power. He's not the mayor of anything. He's a nobody from another dimension. He was building that back up a while ago, but I don't think anyone's seen him for weeks. It's the exact wrong thing for him to do."
