Paul gasped when he saw the wounds she was receiving. But he knew jumping into the fray right now wouldn't be the best way to help her. He channeled his energy and began a short chant. Holding out his left palm, a small golden orb of energy appeared and danced to the chant. At the end, it vanished as a pillar of golden light was sent down from the sky and covered Rami in its glory. Her pain melted away and her wounds closed and healed.

She heard the chant begin, and glanced at Paul. His energy seemed to be channeling, and soon she saw the energy come towards her. She felt her wounds heal, and she breathed, glad that her ribs no longer hurt.

She dipped her head in thanks as she brought the dull side of her katana down behind her, smashing it down on the mutant she'd hit with her elbow earlier. It crumpled to the ground unconcious, just like the rest of the ones she'd fought off. Then she voiced her thanks. "Thank-you. I've never seen anyone channel their energy like that." she remarked, keeping half of her attention on the situation and the other half on the swirling mass of energy that lay ahead.

Paul wondered just how many of these mutants there were. If they had this much resistance the whole way to the source of the darkness, they would never make it. It didn't help that he had never been past the brook before. The unfortunate mutant he was facing fell to the ground in a coma. All around them lay several of these creatures. Paul didn't know how they came into existence, but that didn't really matter when they were trying to eat you.

"We should hurry, before more of these come."

Rami nodded and then stared at the hedge, gauging the distances. "This group was hungry. Everyone else is farther off." she said simply, before glancing back to Paul's energy signal. "They try to avoid the poison valley mostly."

She moved slowly forward, nearly tripping on a body that she had misjudged the disance to. She paused when she judged that she was near the edge of the brook. She gazed down at all of the signals. "This will be the hardest part for me. I can't sense my surroundings when I'm in the water." she said, a small bit of nervousness tainting her voice. Whenever she was in the water, she seemed to be mostly alone, and even those in very close vicinity to her appeared to be miles off.

"I'm guessing that there is no way around this water without going far off course, huh?" He didn't see any reliable ways from where he was. It was almost as if this water was here purposely to defend the lands of the dark academy. "My peace aura so far hasn't had any effect on these guys. So I doubt we can swim to the other side."

Then something seemed to trigger in his mind. "Wait... sense your surroundings?" He looked over to Rami. "Hmm.. Are you unable to see? I thought something was.. strange."

Rami nodded. "Yes. I'm blind." she told him, looking in towards his energy signal. "I can't see anything material." she continued, glancing at the different energy signals and gauging their distance every now and again. "But I can see energy signals of any living mammal." she looked down towards the mermaids signals again.

"All the mermaids want is eternal companionship. They wouldn't have sided with Darci if she hadn't promised it to them." she added in slight annoyance. "The brook is the easiest way through the barrier, but it's very dangerous." she didn't think she was going to get very far, and had a feeling she'd be a hinderance to others because of her blindness, but she had to try.

He looked into the deep water. "10 bucks says Darci is just using them and will dispose of them once their usefulness has run out." Paul considered transforming and simply flying both of them over the water. The other side seemed close enough, but he wasn't entirely sure. He really didn't want to waste that much energy on a possibility.

"I don't think we have any other choice but to swim." He said. "The trees are too far apart for there to be any way of jumping across. I'm sure the mermaids thought of any way to cross without swimming and did something to prevent that from happening. We simply have no choice."

Rami sighed. "She killed my friends." she said as thoug divulging the weather. "I wouldn't have gotten involved if she hadn't." continued to watch the signals below.

"Maybe you should just go on ahead. I'd probably be a burden." she watched as one energy signal grew closer, and dashed her katana into the water, the sudden movement scaring the mermaid away. "I don't even know how I'm going to get myself across the brook."

"By myself? Alone? I don't think so. And I'm not leaving you behind, either. You're coming with me whether you think you're a burden or not. We'll swim across, I'll guide you and protect you the best I can." He started to tread into the water. "Since you can see energy you can be my eyes for anything hidden under the murky water. Just defend yourself and don't stop swimming, no matter what happens to me. Understand?" He held her hand in a 'let's go'-like gesture.

Rami sighed and dipped her head in consent. "There'll be mostly weak ones on the surface. They mostly get frightened away by pain like sharp kicks and such." she explained, following him into the water. "The faster you can swim the better. If you can get out of the water fast enough they probably won't have time to call the stronger ones."

She stood still for a moment, staring into the murky water. "There's four right now, two over there," she pointed to the left, "And two over there." she pointed to the right. "When they realize that we aren't weak they'll call, and the closest mermaids will come." she scanned the rest of the brook area. "They'll come from underneath, and since most of them are over there," she pointed again to the left, "That's probably where they'll come from."

She breathed out quietly. "Once I'm in the water, all the signals will get messed up." she paused, and then cocked her head, realizing that his energy was three times brighter than most anyways. "But I think I'll be able to keep going the right direction."
