Paul stood silently with his eyes closed and arms crossed. He prayed for safety , not just for himself but the other students as well. As he got closer to the barrier Corona had felt too much pain to stay awake, even under the protection of Paul's body. Paul had no choice but to rely on his training and instinct to survive. He had gotten there later than most of the students and a lot of them had already gone on ahead. There were a few corpses of monsters and even some students in this area already.

While there was no visible mermaids or anything else aggressive in sight, he could simply tell that the creatures here were quite agitated and probably had him in sight already. He would have to be very careful. Especially because, so far, he didn't see anyone else in the area. If he got into trouble, no one would be around to save him.

She hadn't disbanded from the Oros sister's house until most had gone on ahead. While she was afraid to be left alone, she did not want to be in a large band, for a large band would attract unwanted attention.

When she finally left, she moved slowly, allowing her sonar to collect as much information as possible. She moved slowly, and suddenly became aware that she was following the bright energy signal she'd seen earlier.

It was strange. The person's energy signal had gotten a little less bright. Not considerably. And anyone untrained wouldn't notice. It was just a tiny bit dimmer. Beyond the bright figure, she realized was mostly a swirl of red and black, punctuated by energy signals of what she knew was students.

Below it were swirls of blue and black. She came so that she was near him, and was startled to see fading energy signals scattered around the area. She felt a tinge of sadness, but she had expected this. She catalogged that there were several fading signals of red and black swirls. Those were the mutants, she remembered from her past encounters.

When she spoke, her soft voice seemed to shatter the silence, and she almost winced herself. "I can't entirely tell, but I'm pretty sure that this is the brooke, am I correct?" she asked the bright signal, gesturing around the area to indicate what her 'this' was.

Paul turned to face the voice that he had heard from behind them. He studied the girl for a bit before responding. "It is. " He said, a little surprised to see another living student here. Did she just get here? The way she looked and talked it appeared so. Though she certainly asked her question weirdly. Almost as if she couldn't see very well. "Where have you come from? You don't seem to have been involved in conflict yet."

Rami gestured absently in the direction she'd come from. "I stayed at the Oros sister's house for a little while, remembering." She tried to ignore the fading energy signals around her. "Travelling in a large group in the beginning is dangerous so I stayed behind." she explained, staring past him at the jumble of signals ahead. She was thankful she had the ability to distinguish distance. "I'm Rami." she introduced herself to the nameless signature. At least she knew it was male now.

He nodded to her as she spoke. He didn't realize that she probably didn't realize his gesture. "My name is Paul. It is nice to meet you, though unfortunate it has to be during this time of war and bloodshed. Are you out here alone? It is quite dangerous." Paul would be proven correct in just how dangerous it was when an arrow zipped by his head, barely missing it and hitting a tree with a loud thud. Paul unsheathed his sword as he turned around to see a small band of mutants, only one of them with a bow, closing in.

Rami dipped her head in agreement. She saw the energy emerge from the mass, but before she could say anything, it was apparent that he'd seen, because his signal moved, and she heard him unsheath his sword.

She raised her own katana, tuning her ears to movement and using her energy signals to read them. She sighed. She would probably just be a burden, her energy reading was helpful, but she wasn't as helpful in a fight. Her sonar was only 80% accurate at the most.

"There's two more coming from my left." she warned, keeping an even eye on all energy signals now. She heard the twang of a bowstring, and she steadied her sonar in one place. She sensed the arrow just in time to move her katana up and to knock it away.

Paul wasn't exactly aware that she was blind, or he would've kept a better eye on her. Two mutants with clubs came at him, though, and it was tough enough holding them off. He took a blow to the side of the head and fell to his left side. Instantly, his hand jutted out and he caught himself, basically doing a one-handed cartwheel and easily recovering from the fairly heavy blow. This caught the mutant off guard, who duly received a slash from Paul's blade to the head. He fell to the ground in a coma.

"Are you alright, Rami?" He called out as he blocked an attack by the other mutant.

Keeping Paul occupied, three others came for Rami. She watched their signals get closer. She felt the air move and heard a sound, bringing up her katana to block whatever was coming. It met resistance, and then one of the energy signals began to fade, she tried not to wince. She'd been told they weren't human, and she knew they were evil, but she couldn't help but hate it. The signal flared again, showing she'd only caused the creature a great deal of pain.

She continued to use her sonar to block the attacks, glad the creatures at least had crude weapons for her to block with. "Alright is always relative, I'll hold out but not much else." she responded calmly, in a matter-of-fact way.

He seemed concerned but she didn't appear to have too much trouble. In fact, he currently seemed to be wounded more than she was. His head hurt pretty badly right now and he felt some blood trickling down his cheek. His reprisal was blocked but he overpowered the mutant and sent it to the ground. With a few slashes of his blade it was knocked into a coma.

He saw a mutant in the distance hold up its bow in aim at him. With quick thinking he took the K.O.'d mutants club and held it up just in time for the arrow to pierce through it and become stuck. If the arrow wasn't caught, it would have went straight into his skull. A little shaken (but not stirred!), he throw the club at the mutant. The club completely missed but it gave him a second to start running at the mutant when it tried to dodge.

The mutant tried to let loose another arrow but Paul was too close now. He swung his sword and knocked the bow right out of the mutant's hands and into the water. Soon, it suffered the same fate as the two mutants before him. Paul began to breathe heavily in exhaustion but looked over to Rami to see how she was holding up. A drop of blood fell from his head to the ground. This was going to be a long day.

Rami continued blocking their attacks, getting a few heavy blows on her shoulders and arms, and a lighter one on her head. She could officially say that they didn't have sharp weapons. And she was glad.

She brought up her katana to block one attack and was immediately cudgeled in the ribs. She swung her elbow out, and it connected with the mutant's head, sending it tumbling backwards into the ground. Her side hurt. A lot.

She pulled away and sent a blow to another of the mutant's heads with the dull side of the katana, sending them sprawling as well. She got knocked over by the other, and she could feel it's cudgel coming down towards her. She brought her katana up to block and succeeded, though the strength of the blow did manage to knock her katana into her shoulder, leaving a long thin blue bruise almost immediately.

She kicked the mutant off and sent a hard kick to what she decided was the basic area of it's head. Judging by the way it's energy faded slightly, she guessed she was right. She scrambled to her feet, breathing heavier herself. There was one more. The one with the arrows, she assumed, but she didn't move, at the moment, the growing bruises throbbing slightly.
