Ah.
This was refreshing - perfect outfit, perfect smile, perfect day - it was almost perfect day. Except, well, there wasn't her brother anywhere in sight, and her hair was slowly losing its volume.
So there was that.
But still! She'd had a blast at class today - majoring in Cosmetology had definitely been the right choice at this college, because it had been so fun practicing and just learning with the rest of her classmates. Who were, presumably, also super nice. She could tell, but most of them were nice!
On top of having done her makeup perfectly (as always, come on!), her outfit was on point too. Gone were the clunky school uniforms she used to wear - now, with a cute blouse and pink plaid skirt (and kitten heels, of course - why go anywhere without them?), she looked enough like a student, but she felt oh-so-chic.
Although, she had to admit, as she walked the length of the courtyard to the satisfying click-click of aforementioned heels, it was starting to get boring dressing and painting herself. She knew all her problem areas, and she looked good in what was in her closet.
Not to mention she didn't have any friends yet, and so far not one person had expressly come up to her and wanted to be her friend.
Oh, to have a new friend that wasn't Nix. That'd be nice.

Addy was frowning. There were her other lingering problems and hardships concerning some men, but the worst of these men was her brother Alaude, who happened to be teaching in the academy as well. He hated seeing her in her tomboy clothes, such as her plain t-shirts and jeans and rubber shoes, and since she could run into him anywhere and anytime during school hours, she had to be dressed the way he told her to.

And she hated it.

She was never going to get used to skirts that didn't even cover her thigh enough, even though this wasn't the first time her brother asked her to dress up. She had knee-high socks on, but they didn't cover the skin above her knees that needed cover the most.

Fortunately Alaude had let her still wear sneakers and a t-shirt that at least had curves for the female body. But still, walking around the school, especially outside, Addy couldn't help but be a bit self conscious. Who knows who'd be staring at her and her ridiculous clothes..?

As Lili walked across campus, grinning to herself, she glanced around, possibly for the thousandth time, for anyone who looked friendly. Though she didn't want to look needy, she... really wanted friends. Friends with a good sense of style, who were nice and playful and -
Her gaze zeroed in on a student who looked suspiciously like one of those characters in one of those animes her friend used to watch - short skirt and t-shirt, and sneakers. And cute knee-highs that she was almost sure she had inside her closet here.
She had to admit, though not flashy, this girl had at least some sense of style, and she looked absolutely graceful in that outfit. The only problem was - she didn't seem... comfortable. As if, maybe, she didn't like the outfit? That had to be the case - upon second, closer, glance, it seemed like the skirt she was wearing didn't sit well with the pretty girl.
She had to fix this.
And so, she sauntered up to the girl, and , with a bright smile, addressed her.
"Hi! I'm Lili - I totally love the outfit, by the way! So cute!"

It was as Adelene feared, and the sudden greeting had made her jump and even squeak a little. She turned around messily, only to see another girl, about her age, who right from her appearance was definitely her opposite. The girl was beautiful in her own outfit, something that Adelene might never be able to do. She will never proudly wear such things at least.

"Uh, thanks. Yours, too, it's nice," she replied, albeit shyly. Her eyes trailed down and found themselves on the other girl's shoes, and the height of their heels and their shape were enough to baffle her. That, she can never wear. How the hell could this girl fight in these clothes?

Well, maybe she didn't have to. How lucky.

Adelene went silent for a while, biting her lip in thought. This person was really flashy and she could remember seeing them once or twice before, maybe in a general knowledge class. Since they were talking anyway, she decided not to treat the other too snobbishly, so she smiled up at her and held out her hand for a shake. "I'm Adelene. You're familiar, might have seen you somewhere before."

Upon closer inspection, the girl really was beautiful, at least naturally. Black hair, and bright crimson eyes - quite the pair. It sure seemed to stand out. Though, the girl seemed to really be startled - oh no. Did Amelia look mean? Like one of those mean girls? Oh, she hoped not. She definitely was NOT mean! She offered a friendlier, although more subdued, smile.

"Oh, thanks!" Try as she might, Amelia never could resist a compliment, and so she grinned and nodded to her shoes. "I did design them myself, but I had a little inspiration from Yves St. Laurent, taking some color from memories at home - really it was very fun! - " and then she stopped herself, because the girl was very clearly giving Amelia a once-over and didn't seem the least bit interested. So she just fell silent and watched the girl in front of her examine her.

The thing that baffled Amelia wasn't the fact that she wasn't wearing heels - that was normal - but the fact that she seemed really tense. Like, at any minute, she'd need to fight off a crazed skeleton bent on killing her. Maybe that was just Amelia, though. Still.... She felt a sense of pity for this girl. She wasn't comfortable in what she wore, she wasn't happy, she wasn't.....
Oh, poor thing. Maybe she could befriend the girl?

"Maybe, yeah! College English, maybe? It would be a general course - unless you're a cosmetic major? No offense, but you don't look the part." She hoped she didn't sound mean... She really was trying to be friendly. To be honest - she'd seen this girl actually! In quite a few of the General classes, though only in periphery - but that didn't matter! Because she now had her name! And they were going to be friends, and she could help Adelene out! She gave her an earnest but friendly grin. Very reminiscent of a child.

The fact that the girl designed her outfit herself sounded like such an amazing thing for Adelene who knew almost nothing about fashion save for the practical side of it. With that said, she didn't know who this Yves St. Laurent guy. The rest was pretty understandable and she smiled and nodded at them.

"English, yes, that's possible!" she replied at the mention of the course. She had taken it before so maybe they've become classmates then. "It's true though, I don't know cosmetics, or even fashion. So, it's not really offensive."

As if she suddenly put two pieces of ideas together, Adelene flinched a little and inspected her clothes in a rush. She definitely didn't like them, but she didn't know if it was "ugly" or "unfashionable", especially for someone who obviously knew much about it.

Oh, right, she mentioned it was cute. Lili was it? Adelene looked at her and asked, "Do you really think my outfit is... 'cute'? I don't usually dress up like this, see. It's my brother, he wanted me to dress more feminine."

"So that's why," she said to herself, nodding. Her brother had forced her to wear such cute clothing. Amelia was sure, of course, that Adelene looked every bit as pretty in something else, but at least it explained the air of wariness and discomfort the girl seemed to have. It made sense, now! She'd been the same way, reluctant to wear aprons, back at the bakery - Nix'd had to force her to wear one, assuring her that it would "ruin your little uhhh.... blouse thing". At least she could understand - and maybe, just maybe, she'd be able to help this girl.
"I see why your brother would recommend you dressing like that - it does look really cute!" She beamed, scooting a bit closer and gently lifting some of the fabric of Adelene's sleeves. "But the meaning of fashion isn't just looking good - it's also feeling good in what you're wearing. Which, if I'm right, you're really uncomfortable in that short skirt, cute as it is."
Oooh
, she exclaimed in her head, maybe I'll get a new friend!
"How about,"
she exclaimed, digging inside her bag for her phone, "you come with me to explore the Manta Carlos mall later! It's going to be so fun - I'll get you fixed up with new trends that, no offense - " she pointed to Adelene's skirt, a concerned but friendly smile on her face, " - would look sooo much more comfortable on you. I'll find your colors! And then we can get cookies and lattes - do you drink lattes? Oh, I might get you one of those nice little frozen lemonades if not - "
And then she abruptly shut up, because she had her phone in her hand and if she moved she might drop it on its shiny pink case. And that wouldn't bode well, because that was her favorite one, DIY'd with the help of her brother.
"So?"

Adelene usually wasn't good with other girls. She usually hated the ones who were really girly, too. But Amelia was too bright and energetic and she was the first one who approached with such a pure and genuine motive, that it didn't feel right to just brush her off. Adelene still couldn't match that bubbliness, she was still uncomfortable and slightly curled up. She smiled and nodded at Amelia's invitation, but her response was quiet and timid and shy.

She hoped Amelia didn't take it the wrong way, though. After all, comfortable was good and she was more than willing to accept some help about comfortable fashion from someone who knew a lot about it.

"Latte is good. Very good, actually. Um... thanks. So... when is 'later', exactly?"

She wasn't sure she was 'doing this' right. Hopefully this meeting doesn't turn sour later; she didn't want to meet people she'd end up not liking, and she didn't want people who knew her to dislike her either. She hoped they'd get along.

Oh, this would be so exciting! Later, probably after classes or something, she'd take Adelene, take her shopping.... and hopefully become friends along the way! Which was funny - under normal circumstances at home, with all of her best friends together, she wouldn't really think twice about this girl - not about her clothes, or her confidence, or her comfort... But here, it was like she'd gained a sort of awareness. Cool! Bro-Bro was gonna be so jealous! Besides - Adelene was pretty nice, though really timid and shy. Well, she thought, we can fix that!

"Oh, later!" Amelia replied cheerfully, with a lithe wave of her hand, batting at the air. "After class! Oooh, maybe at 4! It'll give you some time to get ready and excited. I was thinking meeting over near the arts building - unless you get off somewhere else. In that case," she shoved her phone at Adelene, "just text me!"

This was going to be great. It really was.

Man, Adelene didn't know if she can get through just fine with this, but she already agreed and she didn't want to take that back. So when Amelia gave her the phone, Adelene quickly saved her number in the contacts and rang her phone to get Amelia's.

"Here," she handed the phone back and brought out her own to save the number. "4pm then? I can wait outside the arts building later but I'll text you. Um... I saved my number as 'Adelene Cross' in your contacts."

She was still very nervous, and at some point she wondered if it was okay for them to walk around together in the mall when they were such opposites. Addy hasn't really gone to the mall before; she didn't know what it would be like there. In any case, she'd go on her way after waving goodbye at Amelia, and she'd meet her at their agreed time in their agreed meeting place.
