Mystel needed a lunch break. Well, technically she didn't need lunch but it was lunch hour and everyone deserved a break! Letting out a slow, heavy exhale, Mystel gently rose from her seat at the nurse's office and headed straight for one place that eases her concious - the school gardens. Stepping outside, the plant revelled in the oh so glorious sunlight - a rarity in the midst of winter. A few lime green vines sprouted form the arch of her back and begun to draw lazy circles in the air above her.

Finally, the girl found herself relishing in the essense of the garden. Loosening her posture, she set aside all professional facades as she begun to hum to the nearby plants.

Jeremiah was where he always was now when lunch rolled around. He didn't need to eat, and so he was just as happy to be out in the gardens or the greenhouse, tending to the plants and keeping the animals company. That was where he was currently, holding a jar in his hand and watching the caterpillar inside slowly weave itself a cocoon. It was still far too early for her to be let loose, even when she finally emerged as a butterfly. She would die in the cold, and he wasn't happy with that idea.

Hearing a noise, Jeremiah noticed a young looking woman walking among the garden herself. She immediately reminded him of Carmin due to her appearance, though she was more ethereal and light than the boy with a pansy for a head. Still... he didn't want another plant person to freak out over him keeping the caterpillar alive.

Standing up, he quickly hid the jar in one of the massive pockets inside his coat and greeted Mystel with a smile. "Hello hello! A good day for a walk in the garden, yes?"

In the midst of her reverie, she heard a voice shatter the tranquil silence. Startled, she swept round just a little too quick to greet whoever addressed her. A student? The boy had a cloud of windswept lilac hair, complementing the amethyst gleam of his pupils. She couldn't help but appreciate his casual fashion sense for a short moment before chiding herself to say something, anything. With her tone pitched slightly too high than she'd have liked, she responded.

"Ah yes! The garden's beautiful as always." The girl went silent for a few beats as she basked in the sunlight. Regaining her calm composure, she then continued in a much more languid pace. "It's been a while since I've been here, I definitely missed this more than I remembered." Sparring one last glance around, she then turned her attention back to the other as she slowly approached him. "I'm Mystel, how about you?"

Jeremiah smiled wider, steepling his fingers together as he stepped closer to Mystel. "Ah, yes. I find the forest much more peaceful, but I love the colors of all the flowers. My name is Jeremiah."

He offered his hand to Mystal, palm up, and gave her a little bow since she was a bit shorter than him. "It's very nice to meet you, Miss Mystel. Are you a student?"

Everything about her appearance was interesting though, and he found his curiosity prickling the back of his neck. He wondered what kind of flower that was in her hair, or the leaves that she wore like a dress.

Mystel mimicked him and tilted her head down in a slight bow as her vines wrapped themselves back round her waist. Lips curling into a subtle yet genuine smile, she then took his hand as she spoke.

"It's very nice to meet you as well, Jeremiah. I was a student, but now I'm just the school nurse." Lightly chuckling, the girl let herself ease into the easy yet comfortable banter. "Honestly, I love looking at the flowers as well. Back then, I used to be the only regular here." Shifting her weight to rest on her right leg, she then continued after a short pause. "But I'm really glad to see that these gardens are not so lonely nowadays."

Peering in a little closer, she then said: "say, do you have a garden of your own?"

Jeremiah gave her hand a small shake, up once and then down, and planted a small kiss on her knuckles. "Ah, I see. I haven't ever needed to go to the nurse's office. That would explain why we have never met, then. It is very good to meet you then."

Straightening up as he released her hand from his, Jeremiah's smile fell ever so slightly with a hint of sadness. But then it radiated again as he used his usual trick of focusing on the good memories. "Ah, I did... once. I lived on a small farm with my parents. We cared for all kinds of plants and animals. It was... I think the word Da used was 'pastoral'."

Well Jeremiah definitely seemed like a charmer but Mystel couldn't afford to lose her composure - not while she was on school grounds and especially not in front of a student. Gently drawing her hand back once he released his grasp, she rested her arms idly by her sides as she listened intently. The girl caught the slight falter in his smile but she decided against commenting on it. Besides, before she could respond, he already seemed to have fully regained his composure.

"That sounds lovely. I have a garden as well but I don't have any experience caring for animals." After a short pause, she then continued. "Did you prefer tending to the plants or animals? I've honestly never tried to care for an animal, it just seems difficult to take care of all their needs when I don't instantly know what exactly bothers them like how I do with plants."

"I don't really have a preference. My parents taught me respect for all of nature. They used to say that we're part of nature, so we need to treat it as well as we do our own bodies." His smile brightened further, remembering his younger days and the times he had been frightened by an animal as a child.

"I got many odd looks when I was younger. The adults in the nearby town would be frightened of a snake, and I would just go pick it up and carry it elsewhere, where it wouldn't hurt or be hurt by anyone."

He shifted gears though, not wanting to just focus on himself. That seemed selfish to him. "How do you enjoy being a nurse? Da was a healer; people from town would come with ails fairly regularly. Also, would you like to keep walking?" Jeremiah added, gesturing to the path that looped through the garden, connecting the buildings of the school.

"To respect all of nature huh, I do admit that is pretty rare nowadays. I'm glad someone shares the same sentiments as I do." Mystel let out a light laugh as the boy told her of his childhood memories. "You're quite the brave one aren't you? Snakes can be pretty dangerous if you're not careful. I presume you know how to properly handle them?"

Reeling back her shoulders, she began to slowly stroll in the direction Jeremiah pointed to as she responded. "Well, being a nurse is honestly quite interesting. I'm glad I haven't seen many students though at least they're all staying safe." Slowing her pace, she then glanced at him as she continued. "You say your dad's a healer? How'd that go? Was he a medic or did he have healing powers of some sort? I've never seen many other healers before and most of them have some form of supernatural healing abilities such as myself so it has always been interesting to know how people can just naturally heal others through remedies. I've also been meaning to study how to brew herbal medicine for a while now but I must admit it does get a little confusing sometimes."

"Ah, he was a hedge witch so his remedies were magical in nature, yes. But he also knew more traditional medicine, and freely blended the two." As they walked, Jeremiah basked in the warmth of the sun, which contrasted the cool breeze on his cheeks. It was such a wondrous feeling, feeling again. It still amazed him how going without sensation had made him appreciate even the little things once again.

"He taught me a lot about herbs and traditional medicine. I think he wanted me to take over his work when he was too old to do it. Which would have been a lovely way to spend my life, I think."

But that hadn't worked out. He wondered, as he did from time to time, what was left of his old home. The farmhouse, the barn... the gardens. Maybe Mother or Grandfather would let him go see someday.

"I could help you, if you would like. Da always told me that I should extend a hand to help those who need it. And you seem like a lovely woman, kind and considerate, so it would be like a public service as well." Jeremiah turned to look more deliberately at Mystel as they rounded a corner close to the lake. He smiled all sunshine and sugar at her, as he did with everyone.
