One hand was on his shoulder, and the other hand was grasping her dress, lifting it up to make it easier for her to move. In that moment she was glad that her curtain of flowers was held together with magic, else they would have fallen all over the floor and made a giant mess. Although.... smatterings of blooms would certainly make the dance floor prettier.

"I'm sorry for laughing," she said as they spun slightly out of tempo with the music. "I've always kinda wanted to dance with a prince. I just never expected that my prince wouldn't know how to dance himself."

She smiled again, and looked down towards the ground before peering at him from behind her mask, her eyes a simple, shiny brown.

"I spent several years learning the art of 'swaying softly to music'." She said. She was curious about him, but wasn't sure how to speak to him.

"What brings you to the dance? Do you just want to bring joy to the heart of women who want to feel like royalty?"

He couldn't help but chuckle softly as he spun her. For a moment he was afraid that he'd made some kind of miscalculation and his princess for the night would end up with a broken heel and on the floor, cursing his name, whereupon he would be very grateful for the mask hiding his identity. But it was fine--everything was fine--and he brought her close again to finish off the dance.

"Why not?" he asked purely out of curiosity. "You've got the beauty, you're working on the grace."

As he heard the song reaching its stopping point, he released her waist and was just about to take a step back and bow, thanking her for the lovely dance, when she asked for another.

Behind the mask there was a hint of surprise, then mirth as he laughed and placed his arm around her waist again.

"Certainly. I'd love to dance with you again, princess."

Evie was so excited! Her first dance at the new school! She pretty much bounced in. Sure she'd been to parties and dances before. A lot of people threw masquerade balls that she attended. But this one was different! It was at her school.

She was wearing a long black dress decorated with roses, a black mask decorated the same. She wore dressy heels, and had traded in her detached sleeves for black gloves. Her hair was done up in curls, covered in glitter and strings of beads. If there was anything she learned from living in the Renaissance period, it was how to dress up.

She scanned the crowd, searching for one face in particular. Would her brother even show up tonight?

Melanie Vesper

Melanie walked into the ballroom with purpose, her hair done in ringlet curls all down her back and wearing makeup--well. She was wearing lip gloss with a little bit of glitter in it and that was about all the makeup her mother would allow her to wear, which seemed more than a little unfair considering this was supposed to be a Halloween celebration and caking on makeup until you looked nothing like yourself was supposed to be the best part. Her mom also missed the idea that this sort of thing was about hiding your identity, and so got her a mask but refused to allow her to get contact lenses.

Which was pointless. For one thing she needed her glasses to see, and she couldn't wear them under or over the mask to any degree of comfort, and for another, the mask her mother had decided to give was a metal one, with framework and filligree designs that looked elegant and beautiful, but ultimately hid absolutely no part of her face because the framework was all there was, and between the filligree swirls and harsh lines it was very easy to see her face.

So screw it, she'd thought, and walked in with the mask on her head as if it was a hairband decoration. Which if very well could've been. Her mask and her dress matched decently well.

With another 'descreet' wiping away of tears she gave Live a smile as she tried to make herself okay. "Just walking would be nice with a friend, may I join you?" Kaya said almost pitifully. "I need to do something to take my mind off of all this right now."

Marina Bellamy

Exiting the party was a little harder than Marina thought. She should've expected this. She was Starlight's Queen, and no doubt many people wanted to dance with the Head of the Cheerleading team. She humored a couple of boys and girls first before excusing herself for some air, breaking the hearts of the now slowly forming queue that wished for her attention.

She wasn't Cinderella descending a castle's steps. No, she looked pissed.

Evan wasn't hard to find.

He was the sole loser wearing normal wear in a formal party. Ugh.

"Sorry for the delay. It would've been suspicious if we left the party at the same time."

With that, she walked casually to a darker, less seen place, hugging her arms close to her chest. She hoped nobody saw. From behind, who could tell it was Marina Bellamy walking to the dark?

"I just want to ask you... What are you planning to do, after Juvie?" she asked, a hint of worry betrayed in her tone. She didn't like what he told her at all. If this was going to be the new Evan then God... She had to do something. She owed him that much.

"D-doesn't matter anyway?" Marina was fuming now. Her limbs felt like they were softly trembling with anger, and she knew that if she spoke, her voice would crack. "You're not going to be in juvie forever, anyway. I know you're sad right now, it just doesn't —"

Marina started pacing, scratching her head as if she could scratch the irritation away. This was stupid. This was dumb. She shouldn't get so emotionally involved with situations like this, especially situations with men. Weren't they awful? Didn't she hate them? Maybe with Evan, she just needed to — she just needed to —

Without another warning, she grabbed him by the sides of the face and kissed him.

The sight made Marina sick to her stomach. Everything was too much all of a sudden. What started as an innocuous kiss became... this. Still drunk on adrenaline, Marina ran over to where they were, and it was painful on the kind of heels she was wearing.

"Hey! That's too much! That's downright assault, pal! You couldn't have talked to him? I'm sure he would've backed away!"

But they took him, and he was gone.

She was left reeling.

Her blood was on fire. There were so many things she realized she needed that night, one of them being the now eyeless Evan to be safe, but it seemed like none of them were going to be fulfilled. She ignored the back of her mind screaming for things she couldn't have and went home cold.

Live gave a small nod to Kaya, "Yeah you can join me." She wasn't exactly sure how she felt about this. She hadn't had someone join her for an evening walk before. Usually she just went by herself and played in the darkness. Literally. It would definitely be interesting to see how this went with someone else.

The two began to move away from the lights of the ballroom and towards the darkness of the woods and the lake. "Walks are a good way to clear your head. Especially walking meditation. I only practice meditation because it helps enhance my magick abilities and such. But it is also good for mental health and clearing your head and such." Live wondered if she sounded stupid. Probably.

Yeah, walk...that was a good idea let her think about other things then her short relationship she sunk with the aim bomb by unwittingly going out with other guys because she was trying to PROTECT the man she wanted to give her heart to. Nooooo, dont start going there right now.

"I think I could use something more brisk then a walk...but I'll keep that in mind though. How about a little training instead... Or well, a race really. I need to get as far away from here right now as I can. I want to see if you can keep up." She said as her body began to move already heading away from the building. In one step a small disk of Shadows materialized under her hoof supporting her weight as a second one appeared umder her other hoof.

"hope you dont mind my competitive side...I just...need to get away from here...and I promise not to portal away and cheat." saying this with a smile and fresh tears in her eyes as she looked to Live hopefully.
