General Appearance:
Ven is multi-ethnic his physical appearance reflects a blend of his mixed heritage.
His skin generally looks tan and he has thick, dark black hair that he tends to wear long. It's usually a bit bedraggled, but it's always clean. He lets people wonder if his hair is dyed black or natural, and his mystery is helped by the red tint to his facial hair when he grows it out.
He is a bit on the shorter side, though since his parents are both tall he still holds out hope for one last growth spurt. He is long-limbed and has very broad palms. The most striking part about Ven are his eyes, which are technically listed as hazel on his ID but appear bright yellow. With his tanned skin and dark hair, his eyes provide a brilliant focal point and are often one of the first things people notice about him.
Ven is currently in a bit of Gothic phase. His ears and lips are both pierced and Ven often jokes about having his nipples pierced, but if it's unclear if he's ever actually gone through with it. He often paints his finger nails black and wears thick swatches of kohl around his eyes. He loves tight jeans, band t-shirts, boots, and lots of leather bracelets and cuffs. He slips these accessories on with his uniform and is looking forward to the day when he doesn't have to wear it. It's uncommon to see him without a cup of coffee on hand.
In his wolf shape, Ven appears as a large white wolf with yellow eyes.
Personality Description:
Whether someone would describe Ven as determined or as stubborn will likely depend on how they feel about him. Once Ven puts his mind to something, he likes to make sure he sees it through. This means that Ven works hard to pass his exam, even though he sometimes falls asleep in the middle of it, and he doesn't let anything get in his way.
At best, this means that Ven will do whatever he can to succeed. At worst, this means Ven sometimes goes through with really stupid ideas just because he has set his mind to it.
Ven has a considerable amount of guilt for any information he gleans in his wolf-shape that he knows he isn't supposed to have. That doesn't stop him from feeling tempted to eavesdrop, but Ven won't use any information on an exam that he gets from hearing other students talk about it as a wolf.
Ven tries to hide how frustrated he is with his condition, but sometimes it sneaks through. While being a werewolf is kind of cool, he wished he was more of a physically-change-and-howl-at-the-moon kind, and not the old-fashion fetch kind. He hates that his soul just slips out at random. He hates that he can't drive a car because he might pass out. He hates that he does pass out, and often at really inopportune times.
As a friend, loyalty is important to Ven. He will value his commitment to a person over himself, and can easily be persuaded to try and use his powers.
At present, Ven's best worst idea is to try and find a local werewolf group with someone willing to bite him and turn him into an actual werewolf. He hopes that, this maybe, maybe his soul won't be so tempted to escape from his body. The problem with this plan is that Ven has a strict DO NOT TURN clause on his admission slip since the school really doesn't understand how this would affect his powers, and for a multitude of reasons, someone who physically cannot control when they pass out turning into a wolf might put Ven--and other werewolves--at risk.
Because he's stubborn he is doing everything he can to find someone who will help him anyway. This makes Ven not exactly guillable, but willing to put up with a lot just for the chance to fix this.
Despite knowing better, Ven often does things just because he wants to, and then regrets when the actual consequences strike.
The exception is dating. Ven is still a little embarrassed after he passed out literally on top of his date once. He's a bit reluctant to move things past friendship.

Ven's soul or spirit is the shape of an abnormally large white wolf. When he falls asleep or meditates, Moon Moon is able to manifest himself as a wolf in the physical environment.

Powers: Werewolf, Astral Fetch
Ven is an old-school werewolf. His physical body does not transform, but he possesses the soul of a wolf that acts as a "fetch" and operates outside of his human body.
Moon Moon has all of the benefits of being a wolf--increased senses, stamina, able to survive on very little--and all of the downsides. He retains his human memories and intelligence in this shape. Moon Moon cannot really talk in this shape, though he probably could if he tried.
Moon Moon also has a few unique benefits in this shape. He is able to perceive things as they truly are; Moon Moon is able to see past auras and minor disguises and illusions in this form.
Physical boundaries are more permeable. Moon Moon could presumably enter a building he was previous in simply by visualizing himself inside of it before he falls asleep. If he knew how, Moon Moon could walk between worlds or slip inside the dreams of other creatures. ((This would be plot-dependent and would require the permission of the other player's character.))
Unfortunately, Moon Moon does not have a good grasp of his powers. His soul has a tendency to slip from his body or show up in a place he was just thinking about. Moon Moon has to bring his soul back and hope that nothing bad happens to his body in the meantime. It is unclear what would happen if Moon Moon's physical body were fatally injured--whether or not his soul would survive separate is uncertain. Moon Moon is in no hurry to find out, particularly because the weaker his physical body grows, so does his spiritual body.
So if his human body is left without food or water, despite eating and drinking as a wolf, Moon Moon will feel weaker and weaker.
In his human shape, Moon Moon has some of his wolf-like senses, particularly his sense of smell. Moon Moon is able to learn a lot about a person from smell, including if they are human or not, but he cannot identify species he has not encountered before. It is also not overly general; he might be able to tell that the kitsune Yoka, for example, isn't human, because she might smell like a fox, but he wouldn't be able to poinpoint specifically that she's a yokai or what kind she is.
Moon Moon can see ghosts in his human shape. He has a limited ability to see through perception magic, but this is much, much weaker. He might just get a flash of something different. This exhausts him and he can become physically weak.
Other creatures might perceive Moon Moon as being a wolf. His body is clearly human and will identify as human, but werewolves or similar creatures would likely register him as a wolf.
The Role of Narcolepsy:
Back in the United States, Moon Moon fit the criteria for narcolepsy. Now that he is on the island, it is unclear if the intrusive symptoms are a side effect of his powers OR if he has a difficult time managing his powers due to narcolepsy.
Moon moon has a difficult time regulating his sleep/wake cycle. He is exhausted throughout the day and relies on medication and excessive amounts of caffeine to keep him awake. Despite this, Moon Moon is sometimes physically unable to keep himself awake and will fall into a brief, unsatisfying sleep.
When this occurs, Moon Moon will often "wake up" in his wolf shape somewhere else. If he is close, he is able to return to his human body and wake up relatively quickly. If his soul is not near by, Moon Moon will remain unconscious or asleep until his soul is returned. While at home or in a safe space this might not be an issue, but it poses difficulties when he falls asleep on a train, for instance, and his soul isn't able to board or if he falls asleep in the bath tub or with the oven on.
When he reawakens in his human form, Moon Moon is dizzy and disoriented for a few seconds to a few minutes until he is able to balance himself.
Moon Moon also experiences bouts of cataplexy where there is a momentary and episodic loss of muscle function. Moon Moon feels his legs give out and may experience brief "double vision"--that is, he is seeing through both his own eyes and the eyes of his wolf at the same time. His hearing and awareness remain normal, but his speech may be slurred. This occurs frequently when Moon Moon is introduced to someone using magic, whether inherent in their species or not, to alter their appearance--for example, in a glamour or how a kitsune might appear human. However, this may occur without a magical prompt.
Despite being exhausted, Moon Moon has periods of wakefulness at night. This may be related to the moon, but he's not certain.
Moon Moon also experiences Hynagogic hallucinations--however, most of these aren't hallucinations but seeing the magical world unfiltered. Saying you saw demons or faeires in the united states might earn you a diagnosis, but in the Manta Carlos Islands, it's pretty common.

There are implications to his current powers in Ven's profile that I intend to have him develop through the course of threads. At present, Ven has little to no control over his powers. He can do only what is described in the initial outline, which is very limited.

Ven will be able to manifest his wolf-shape in a location of his choice by visualizing it before he falls asleep. This is limited to locations in the physical realm. It is easiest if Ven has been to the location before; the more familiar a location, the greater his chances of manifesting there.
In theory, Ven could travel to a location just by studying photos. This would require an intense degree of preparation and would still likely fail.
Entering other realms:
Eventually, when he gains control of his powers, Ven would be able to cross into other realms and dimensions. However, he can not just visualize himself there as he could in the physical world. He must enter through some means, such as a doorway, dimensional rip, etc. He must physically bring himself back to the physical realm.
Entering Dreams:
With player permission, Ven would be able to walk into someone else's dream and interact with the person in this space. He does not have access to thoughts or memories and has no ability to control the other person's behavior, body, etc.

Ven is technically Yseult Paget's seventh child. After a series of miscarriages, Yseult was thrilled to bring her baby boy into the world safely. Given her difficulties conceiving, however, it was unlikely that Yseult would ever be able to carry a second child to term. After a lengthy adoption process, Yseult welcomed a young boy named Sun Tsun into her family.
Sun and Ven were remarkably close growing up, so much so that there was never any doubt in Ven's mind that they were brothers. Their different appearances were easily minimized, in Ven's mind, by their love for astronomy, camping, and pretending to be secret assassin spies in space. They have similar gestures and facial expressions. Since they both had thick, black hair, even Yseult would have a difficult time telling the boys apart with only a quick glance in their direction.
Unfortunately, Sun did not have the privileges that Ven did and this quickly became apparent in school. Sun received some teasing due to his name with many of his classmates calling him "Sun Sun." Ven overheard one student ask Sun, "What, is your older brother named Moon Moon?"
Ven stepped in and said, "Yes. My name is Moon Moon."
Since the other students wouldn't believe him, Ven started to sign all his homework, test papers, and person items as MOON MOON.
His teachers complained and wrote home to Yseult about Ven's behavior. However, after several cross phone conversations with Yseult, the staff realized it was easier to allow Ven to go by Moon Moon that it was to explain how they'd allowed racial bullying to occur within the class rooms.
Go Fetch, Moon Moon:
During Ven's late adolescence, Yseult's marriage to Kolgrim began to get rocky. While Yseult and Kolgrim remained loving and attentive parents to the boys and still had their family suppers each night, it became apparent after a few years that the two were headed for a divorce.
It was during this time that Ven began to fall asleep in class. Initially, it was assumed to be the stress from home and his parents impending divorce. Ven would have particularly vivid dreams during these time periods, often dreaming he was a big white dog and wandering around school or home. Ven thought these were particularly vivid dreams...until he repeated information he'd learned in his dreams back to his parents and they were furious at Ven for eavesdropping.
No one stopped to consider that Ven was in school at the time of the conversation.
Unfortunately, Ven's symptoms progressed and then worsened. After a particular bad episode, Ven was finally diagnosed with narcolepsy.
However, Ven wasn't entirely satisfied with that answer. He realized most people couldn't control their dreams like he could, and Ven began to experiment, showing up as the big white dog and moving things or scratching things in his dreams, which Ven would later investigate as a person. The marks were almost always there. He couldn't always control when he would have a bout and fall asleep, but he realized that if he found his body and stepped into it was the big dog, he would wake up.
Ven could soon show up in his dog-shape just by thinking about the location really hard before falling asleep. A few days later, the news circulated with stories of a wolf spotted on campus, and that's when Ven finally put two and two together: he was, sort of, a werewolf.
He tends to think of his wolf-shape as being Moon Moon. He began to read. He picked up fortune telling books, werewolf novels, and visited psychics. He wanted answers. He found very little.
Ven's parents finally got divorced and Yseult decided to take her suns across country to move to California to live with her mother. Ven wasn't happy to leave his school or his old life behind, but he went with his mother. It was hard to think of anything else but how much he missed his old room.
Which became a problem, because when Ven woke, he was standing in his old room.
2,700 miles away.
It took Ven weeks to get back, during which time his comatose human body was admitted to the hospital. No one was sure what had caused the coma or how to wake him up. When Ven finally found his body, it took him days before he could slip in, unnoticed, with a group of therapy dogs and break away to slip back inside his human body.
Coming to Starlight Academy:
Shortly after Ven had enough strength to walk normally again after weeks of lying in bed, a recruiter on behalf of Starlight Academy appeared to the family. Yseult and Sun were told that Ven was going to a school designed to accommodate the needs of students with conditions like Vens and help him manage. Ven's referral came at behest of a physician who heard about his case. His family assumed they were talking about his narcolepsy.
Ven thought that, too, until he came to the island.
