Private Finished The Water Looks Nice

The strange, salty aroma of the sea was not something Devias had experienced at home, yet this wasn't the first time he encountered it. The first time was just after applying for the academy shortly after learning about it in a journal from Sol's Archive. He took a detour instead of heading strait for home through a portal.

The second time was during the cruise for Valentine's day where he was surrounded by sea water. Hard to not notice it then. Recently, he had found time to head to the docks where he would see a lot of fish swimming in the water. He had always wanted to study those, but school proved to be an obstacle.

Today though, it was fairly easy on time, and so he found himself a good spot where he saw the waterborne animals congregated. With a wave of his hand, his void magic lifted a fish out of the sea with a water bubble as to keep it alive. That has always been something his mentors would prioritize: keeping subjects alive whenever possible. Void Walkers enter worlds to study them, not take any unnecessary actions.

With a pencil in hand, Devias sketched the fish into his notes with a few details written about it on the next page as he saw them. Particular traits, such as the color and estimated length. No magic to be found in this one, as was a natural thing to find in this world.

However, before he could finish, someone had fallen on top of him. Before he noticed, he had a person on top of him, who tried to get up, only to fall back down. The sudden event caused him to lose focus on his spell and the water bubble and the fish flopped down somewhere, he didn't see where. Hopefully, it wasn't on the person.

"Are you alright?" he asked with a calm that seemed almost cold, if not for the neutral expression on his face.

"No, it's fine. The harm was minimal," he'd say, standing up. He looked where his pencil and notes went. He found them by the railing. Luckily, his stuff didn't jump into the water.

Another loud crash pulled his attention back to the girl, who looked like she slipped again. Clumsy, wasn't she? After securing his notes and pencil into his satchel, Devias offered a hand for the girl. Even if she were to slip again, she would see that Devias was a bastion of stability. For the moment as he had braced himself.

"Please be careful. Amnesia isn't a healthy affliction to acquire." And by the looks of things, she would be prone to such damaging impacts. Devias was starting to worry for her, honestly.

"It's no bother," he'd say with an almost monotone voice. He noticed the ship that hadn't been there before when he first got to the pier, and then took notice of the girl's bags. It didn't seem like that was the sort of thing one would bring to a casual strut through the pier. At least he saw enough people in this world to be sure that wasn't the case.

Was it? He recalled the fact that this island was a mix of cultures, so perhaps this was perfectly fine. He had to ask to make sure. "Did you, by chance, just arrive on that vessel? Or are you boarding it?"

That was a fine question, right?

He was pleased to learn that his hunch was correct. This girl did just come from the ship. Additionally, he learned that this was her first day on the island. "A rough start for your journey. You'll recover," Devias nodded kindly.

"Pleasure to meet you, Caspian. I am Devias Hel'Sarie. I'm not originally from here either. My cousin and I arrived in January and have been staying here since then." Devias accepted her hand and gave a firm hand shake.

From his estimates, the girl was young enough to still be in school. But with shape shifters and immortals roaming about, she could be eons older than he was. "What brings you to the island?" He chose to ask a safer question.

Finally allowed to travel and finally go to college? That didn't really help with estimating her age. Devias decided to put that question on hold however, diverting towards another matter. The girl was asking if she could buy him a drink as an apology.

Normally, he would have turned down the offer since he didn't need any peace offerings for an accident. If he caused it, perhaps he would be the one to offer. But he was also cautious about going against any cultural norms. Not that he knew whether or not this was one. It could be or it couldn't be, who knew.

"Well... that really isn't necessary," he paused in the middle of his response, but ultimately went with telling her that she didn't need to do that. "But, is there any way I would be of assistance to you?"
