Cass watched the lurking figure peel away from the shadows while considering his request. Normally, she'd have given him directions and gone on her merry way, but there was a warning signal of sorts activated by her logical mind. He'd just stepped out of the Forbidden Forest at night. She'd had some sort of telepathic warning that he was there - which had never happened. Either he was incredibly lucky not to have been eaten, or he was incredibly powerful. Combined with the unusual head's-up, Cass found herself reluctant to aid him. That, of course, left her with the problem of what to say. Since her sojourn in those woods, her natural tendency to be suspicious had swelled into a paranoid tendency to fear for her own life on a regular basis. If he was powerful enough to saunter out of that forest looking for directions, as though he hadn't just taken a walk in the seventh circle of hell, he was probably capable of killing her.
Not the most trusting or carefree of approaches, but given her recent experiences, it made sense to her. Hands in her pockets, she watched him for a little while, not speaking. Just thinking of how to get out of the situation without dying or causing anyone else to die. "Maybe," she hazarded, eventually. "I guess it depends on what you were doing in those woods."
